  • yoga and pilates and bikes. i smoke so i feel you on that one. i am vegan so understand that weird energy thing. stretching actually makes me sleep better. I have had trouble sleeping since I became vegan but now that I do yoga I can sleep like a baby if I need to. Yet, I can still stay awake if I need that too.

  • You're right! It's not a choice of caring about one issue or the other... going vegan opens an awareness that connects to everything... Animals, other people, the planet... And I totally identify with you on #4. I never, ever thought I'd be someone "thinner" than I wanted to be... I eat constantly!!! Good food!!!! FEEL GREAT! - and am staying trim effortlessly. It's nice to be fit... nice to not hurt the animals or the planet -

  • Glad you didn't tag me. For I'm "still" vegan DESPITE I feel down and powerless since I started it. But then, my doctor cannot find anything (blood values are super etc) and I even consulted a nutritionist last year and she said I should be perfect. The point is, about the same time when I went vegan (which had nothing to do with it) I lost three beloved ones. And although I'm highly sensitive I watched real war documentation media, which scarred me a lot. So how I feel may NOT be from veganism.

  • I had "down time" when I first went vegan. It was because I couldn't get the images of those innocent creatures being mistreated out of my head.

  • Yeah, this too. And I cannot help but feel extremely angry and upset everytime I am in a supermarket and see people buy meat. Even though I know this doesn't help anything.

    At least I am over the worst conflicts time with my peers... we had some really terrible quarrels during the first 2 years or so. I'm vegan now for 5 years.

    Ok, what gave me a bit confidence was when in my 3rd vegan year I reached my best weight (by muscles) so far. I've been underweight almost all my life before.

  • You sound like a very caring and sensitive person. When you become vegan the world can begin to look like a very different place. The real positive in all this is that this is an injustice that we can actually do something about, by first stopping to participate in it and then also making information available to others. I want to bulk up a bit after loosing too much weight due to stress over the last two months, what did you find to be the secret?

    My secret for gaining weight? Hm, I don't know really. I'm currently 5 kg down from these days. But what I did then was eat more fatty stuff (avocados more than once a week, and a handful Kalamata olives almost every day as a snack) - probably this isn't even healthy. ;) Oh and I trained some "bodybuilding" stuff, called flowing isodynamics. (book: "Dynamic Strength" by Harry Wong) Looks a bit like you could call it "power taichi". ;) I never gain fat really, only muscles

  • I never remember to eat avacados LOL, I love olives though, I had some today I might have some more later. Thanks for the recommendations :-)

  • With avocados I usually do my "CAT salad". ;)

    = Cucumber, avocado, tomato salad. I add only some salt, a few herbs maybe, and lemon juice. Often I mix this even with any leafy salads, and serve with Turkish bread etc. (Maybe I should post a YT vid about this one day... *hehe*) However important: with avocados, never add any extra oil!! Avocados are pure fat already.

  • Stress and depression can have a MASSIVE impact on health, especially in terms of immune function and availability of nutrients from food. I'm sorry you're feeling bad and you have been through so much negative stuff :-( *HUGS*

  • When the mind makes the change the body will soon follow :-)

    Just spend some time doing research, eat more and more vegan meals as time goes on and make the change slowly and in a relaxed fashion if you want. I think sometimes making the change quickly is a bit stressful, which may be why some people quit soon into it. I made the change over two weeks while I used up my remaining milk and egg products (couldn't eat the meat stuff tho) but that was because I got spurred into action by Earthings.
