  • I find it a shame that more Jpn youth don't practice traditional arts anymore .

  • as a young Latina planning to visit Japan I wanna thank you for these videos xD but the clothing thing was so discouraging. I'm curvy (not fat lol) so I guess I'm shopping before I go over there

  • You are 180cm tall, but 64kg? WOW you are too skinny to be an American!

  • @elderaarondavis1 im 170 cm tall & weigh 48 kg, its not strange lol

  • @elderaarondavis1 I'm 6'0", 140lbs, and I have friends that are even smaller!

  • i have a question that is importent to me so please answer if you can and my question is that when i go to japan for college how will they react to a guy with long black hair that has a tattoo on his forehead and wears gothic clothes? will they ask me to change my clothes and cut my hair?

  • @13Zess You have to check out Harajuku.. You'll know the answer by yourself :D

  • i feel bad for our latin women finding jeans that fit them bootyllicious curves

  • well that makes me feel fat.

  • I'm a not very large (at most a medium in america) and I was not able to find and single pair of pants/skirts that fit me in japan. I love the fashion though. Nice videos

  • o a cat

  • Dude, is that a cat near you? =^.^=

  • I hope Japan dosenn't get too Westrenised....

    P.S. Cute cat! ^_^)))))))))))

  • ha an average size woman in america is a big fat tub of lard

  • Hmmm...I'm a black guy...think they can handle a fade?

  • hm I remember I had a few problems with cloothes in Korea... :D Hmmm I think if I go to Japan I need to bring a lot of pants :D I am 172, is it considered tall in Japan? I feel average height actually (except when I was in Korea and wore high heels lol)

  • :D i love you. thanks a lot for making these videos. very informative!

  • i got a haircut in china, the didnt know any english at all,

but i pointed at pictures and was lucky i got a nice haircut=)

    but it is risky^^

  • dude give me a break please. you are making me so miserable. 5'11'' is a decent size even in America. they say the average height for American male is 5'9''. in universal standard, If you are 5'10'' You are considered tall enough and you are complaining that you are 5'11''? sorry for being sensitive but if you are 5'11'', you are considered tall in japan.

So if i am 5'8'' am I tiny in the States? please respond

  • lol I'm XL and a tall guy, I'm not moving to japan :/

  • Western music is popular in Japan but the charts are still reigned by J-Rock, K-Pop and J-Pop.

  • That's cool you are an adult small. I am too an adult small. I was buying a shirt in Japan over the summer, and the saleswoman asked if I was sure if I wanted that size because it was too small on me. I had not known that about the sizes. I will remember that next time I am in Japan. By the way, this shirt still fits me, but it is the smallest shirt I own.

  • i somethimes hope Japan wont turn too western. If they did it would be like living in another american-o-

    except overseas...=.=

  • yes it truly is a fine balance that i worry about as well. there are some aspects that i know will never change just due to the environment alone, but there are other aspects that i see constantly changing. sadly some are negative. i.e. childhood obesity due to western foods, and proliferation of violent crimes.

  • yeah. sadly that's true. so i guess if you really want to live in a traditonal japanese area Kyoto is the place! at least that part of japan wont change. i hope not!

  • @unrested Change happens in ancient countries, I once heard from a japanese exchange student here in sweden that he was tired of the "old mentality" in japan, the extreme racist and sexist system that is, and the extreme comformist commerical culture that japan has today. The "inhuman" competition in schools. The youth is afraid to stand up he says. i think it was an interesting opinion, all countries need to change.

  • The world is interconnected. It will be inevitable that other cultures will adopt other values.

You have to be careful with how you go about your argument - you'll start sounding like a Nazi when you talk about "nations keeping their cultures to themselves" and stuff. Not saying you're a Nazi, but just be careful how you say stuff.

  • Well i understand that, but I'm just saying they should keep some of their rich culture and history and not turn "completely" western. It's always nice to have a traditional area. at least in some parts.

  • @cheesesmiles i agree O.O

  • LOL MACDONALDS AT EVERY CORNER!! LOL!!! hope japan doesnt have to many western fast food resturants or they'll be the country knowed for far people like we are! lol

  • Can you give a more detailed explaination on being discriminated about your sex please? I'm going abroad to Japan this year and i'm a girl so it's really important, Thanks.^_^.

  • is rap big over there??

  • definitely its huge. most music genres are...hmmm maybe minus country. i have never seen a japanese person into country music.

  • @unrested Well, it's only a good thing that they don't like country music. xD

  • basically if you wear over a women's US 8 in dress you're pushing it in finding things EASILY. you can still find things even if you're over that, it just takes some searching. if you're tall i cant say im like 5'2" so...yea. with shoes anything over 8.5US womens i say good luck finding anything. i wear between a 8-8.5 i can easily fit a LL shoe. its a bit weird though, i've been told my foot is too big for women's but too small for men's, so i was stuck searching for whatever fitted.

  • yea i can make an explanation on japanese women clothing: ive tried on womens japanese clothing. basically my friends and i follow a rule, if its a naturally loose-fitting top its ok, or one-pieces work. (but if youre smaller chested go for whatever) pants are just bad in general unless there's a GAP, H&M, or Forever 21 nearby (cuz they sell western clothes) japanese womens pants are basically cut in a way that you'd have to be very slim-hipped to even get them all the way up.

  • i\m 6 foot 7 and mega slim

  • unfortunately I am already well aware that I'll be very lucky to find any clothes at all in my size as I'm 6'4" and a bit of the bulkier body build type so just about everything I'm going to have to order online.

It's kinda unfortunate that some of the traditional arts are dying out but i suppose that was to be expected. Hopefully Japan will not become a copy of western countries as its uniqueness is what makes it so great.

  • can you do a little section on takoyaki ? i heard it was really good :)

or anything on food besides ramen & sushi would be cool too .

  • same here im never cold thats why i asked about shorts. so its cool to wear them? sweet i know what to pack :)

  • dam im size 13 shoe. question how about shorts ive heard u cant really wear them daily? is it weird to wear them on the streets?

  • really? i wear shorts alot. i have one friend from michigan who never feels cold here and wears them all through winter even.

  • lol i got a size 16 so i have slim pickings where ever i go.

  • LOL

  • pls tell me that Kimono's haven't died out, they still wear that to festivals and such right?

  • not at all they are still going strong. have you watched my faq on kimonos? if you are interested in their place in daily japanese life let me recommend it.

  • Yea ive actually seen all your vids, without exception, but i dont recall much talking about their (kimono) popularity =)

sorry i also have a bad habit of forgetting things, might be the reason .. =)

  • hi im a girl from mexico could i survive in japan with 172,000 yens ( japanese currency) per month?

which japanese city is the cheapest one in accomodation and food ?, the reason to get japan is because i will take a researching programm for education ( im teacher ) so, im not worried about the university costs for japanese course because the program will pay for all the school charges . i need ur help cause they give us freedom to choose university and town

  • I sent you a PM on this answer as it is detailed.

  • Hey Scott! Hehe...I didn't know you were making these. Perhaps I should do some for Norway....

  • seriously you should!

  • why does the trees get pink on the spring in japan??

  • you are thinking of sakura which means cherry blossoms. in april they bloom and become very beautiful but only for about 3 weeks. After they shed their flower. These are so beautiful in fact that the japanese have hanami matsuri which is flower showing festivals. If you want to see more of these please watch my Osaka Doc. entitled My pathway.

  • oh so im about 5'2"or 5'3" and 103lbs. is that a normal size? im a girl of course haha how tall are most guys in japan?

  • thats pretty normal size for a girl here. most guys are on average 5 foot 7.

  • is ur gf japanese or white. dude dont hide her. i heard her laugh and saw her arm?? dude im so curiuos. please tell me

  • haha I dont hide her. I am quite proud of her, but she is a very private person with her life and prefers to not be in the videos.

  • im 6'2 so im screwed ;-)

  • I'm 5'7 and weigh around 126Ibs (I'm a girl)...Will I have trouble shopping for clothes? I am traveling to Japan next summer and staying for 2 months. I just want to know if I will fit or will I have to buy all my clothes before leaving the USA.

  • Sadly that is rather tall in japan for a girl so you may find yourself having some trouble with shoe sizes and well fitting jeans. Shirts might not be too big of a problem but as I said the above may be a problem.

  • Also, loving the videos keep em up! :D

  • What inspired you to go to Japan in the first place?

  • i have been asked this alot lately in the questions people have been sending me and I gotta say it a bit of a long answer so to answer this I plan on making a whole seperate video of my own personal story of why I came and how I got here. thanks for watching please send me anymore questions you have and I will be happy to answer them.
