Evangelion has had such a huge impact. It's my favorite show, and End of Evangelion is my favorite movie, of all time. And I don't mean just anime wise, I mean of all time.
The only way to describe this movie is the most horrifically beautiful thing I have ever seen. It's amazing how a movie can be so bleak, pointless, violent and cruel if taken at face value but so deep, powerful, meaningful and hopeful to those who actually peel back the skin and look inside. Evangelion is the best anime... no, the best thing ever committed to screen, and nothing surpasses it.
@fresca9990211 So far, it's all style, no substance. It doesn't have anything that made the original great. Sure the animation's better, the soundtrack's better, the extra acting's better... but that's just the technical. Beyond that, there isn't much. The last two movies may still be yet to come out, but judging by the trailer at the end of 2.22, I won't hold my breath.

I was just referring to the difference in focus between the series and EoE (characters) and the Rebuilds (action and sheer scale), and also to the retards who sent Anno death threats over a TV show. Then again, it's not all about the ending for me, it's everything leading up to it as well.

@fresca9990211 Well, it's meant to be allegorical for them beating depression and choosing to live rather than die. There are a lot, myself included who see it as a metaphorical representation of the inner workings of a depression sufferer's mind, and all events are supposed to be representative of the different aspects of that, with the story being the gradual fight against and eventual recovery from it. At least, this is going by what Anno says and what the NGE production crew say.

In the midst of all its brutality both psychological and physical, End of Evangelion reminds us of one important thing. Even if everything you know seems to have gone to hell, it is always possible to find happiness again if you just look to someone you love and trust. Underneath the grotesque skin of End of Evangelion lies something very touching, and that's what makes it stand out so much in my mind.
