  • those motors may be among the most reliable. But they can not handle boost. It has to do with the initial design. Motors that come stock with turbos are the way to go when it comes to boosting. rod knock is a serious matter and turbo motors are equipped to handle it. I.E. fuel cut. my 97 talon wouldn't allow the car to run when it sensed the rod knock and kept the rod from breaking, a very nice technology.

  • The real problem here is that judging from the stock pistons, it had stock ls rods and rod bolts...That is the weakest part of an LSVtec. You might be able to get by with stock rods on an NA build but not turbo. At least install some ARP rod bolts to prevent the rod from coming apart and exiting the block.

  • @travef9 wow your pretty smart. i did this with the intention of blowing the motor. yes it was stock yes it had stock rod bolts. i knew all of this and did it anyways. what you should of seen was the the top of the pistons. how lean it ran but the same carbon build up rather than the whole piston. so it finally blew up sooner than i thought but that gives me the reason to throw the new built motor in there.

  • @saiintsliick explaint how its the worse swap ? i turbo'd it and blew it up on my mistake of not retuning it. after jumping from 13 to 15 psi which i was not intending to do but it was lowest on the wastegate spring. everything was healthy. please elaborate because i'd like to hear it. just cause you own an EF doesnt mean you know everything.

  • @YoungStatic well obviously it' was going to go soon if you don't have a current tune setup. turbo cars are too much maintenance. save the headache & keep all naturally aspirated motors alone unless you get a real deal stock turbo'd car. or just go k...jajaja

  • @FlawlessVizionz08 you're very ignorant, a tune isn't everything, I am no fan of Hondas but I have built and tuned many engines, the tune isn't everything. If the engine is not put together properly I.E. seals/gaskets aren't seated, or compression ring gap isn't correct or valves aren't seated properly it can cause an engine to break. Seriously tunes aren't everything, they just help. All a tune does is map things more accurately.

  • @flappy188 6 months? before anyone say crappy tune or its unreliable because of the stock block, NO, it was because i didnt go back for a retune when the boost creep was fixed. stock map allowed 11 psi. it was tuned on 13 and fixed to 15psi without a retune causing the motor to run lean.

I used to have a 99 civic si about 8 years ago, It was built b20 block with built b16 head an turbo set up, had roll cage an hella money in it with alot of jdm parts.. Freakin loved that car tell some dirt bags stole it lol that kinda ruined it for me. Anyways nice car man I'd still have a honda today if it wasnt for that, it was the last one i owned. ;'(

  • @xlr8ation1 was not a crappy. tune. my first setup. i forgot the valve seat in the wg. tuned it at @ 13psi with boost creep. installed the valve seat. no more boost creep but now held steady @ 15psi lowest on the boost controller and ran lean. no money for retune. so thats what i got. stop assuming shit. DNR does not do crappy tune.

  • eagle rods and 9:1 cp pistons is my setup.. gsr though. i blew mine when i was beating my car hard. only had low comp pistons on stock rods. was pretty stupid. good luck on build yo

  • the motor has 3 years of daily driving and racing while N/A and 5 months daily'd boosted. stock internals. this wouldnt have happened if i had fixed my oil leak that caused oil starvation.
