Dirty Mind was release in the fall of 1980, I remember it so vivdly causing so much controversy (album cover too front & back) because of the sexually explicit content of the lyrics in the songs. Everyone was talking about how Prince had changed overnight to some sex craze freak on this third album. His earlier two releases "For You" (1978) & "Prince" (1979), had ballads and were not sexually charged, that's why everyone was so shocked when this was release that year (1980).
The only thing wrong with this album is it's too short at 30 min. This is the album that created the "Minniappolis Sound". The way he combined keyboards and guitar. Started Prince's artistic domination of the 80's.
@geographypony You are 100% correct about both of those albums being Prince best work by far of all of Prince's albums. Both albums are pure gunnies well written, well produce and great vocals..!!!

When I moved to the Twin Cities in '91, one of the first places I wanted to go to was the Uptown section of Minneaplois. I was there within a few days and could see firsthand the various inspirations for the song's lyrics.
