Out of all the characters in the movie their are two of them that I give the up most respect for. 1. The Don- no question, because of the way he acted and the way things were carried out. 2. Sonny- he may have had his way with women, and had a hot temper at times, but if you crossed him you were screwed. Honestly out of all the scenes in the first film I hated Sonny's death, because I personally didnt want Sonny to die. Second was the Dons death. Does anyone agree and if so why?
@TheMoviefan78 I like sonny. He was the first son. Has a lot of confidence and bluster. Loyal too. I like him bc he brought Tom(his friend) into the family when they were young and he had nobody. Also you see that the Don loved him and Michael for each having different strengths. The Son's death was interesting in how u see Vito's weaknesses. No cunning, fear, always unsure etc.
@TheMoviefan78 I definetley agree. I also think that Sonny would've been a bad don due to his short temper.but seeing him die crushed me mainly because it was set up by Carlo,his sister wife & the guy who brought him with the corleones.
@TheMoviefan78 I loved the way that The Don carried himself in a Business Meeting with Sollozzo and how he said no and kept firm about it. The one thing that I loved about Sonny was that he was very protective of his Sister Connie since he did introduce her to Carlo. Sonny sometimes acting on impulse without thinking through. I think that he may have lost his Father's Faith after the Meeting. I felt so bad for Sonny dying but after he went after The Five Families, he was a marked man.
the Don was right, and i follow him, i wouldnt go into the drug business, look what it has led to...it gets you alot of cash even for the common drug dealer but its very very dangerous
@dasdasist He Gained the respect of Little Italy In the early 1920's through the Protection and favors he did for those People, and he would lose all that respect if he went into something like drugs which destroys the lives and families all over the world. Plus all of the Politicians and Judges he befriended during the 1920's and 1930's wouldn't be able to protect him should something happen. Gambling rings, Unions, those are things You can easily disguise as Honest. But drugs Big NOO.
Why didnt Sollozo mention that McClusky was on his payroll? this way he lets it be known that a police captain was in his pocket and it looks more favorable.
@riddick7819 At this time he did not need to metion he already had the chief of police on his payroll as it would imply he needs protection to have that stong of an allence and that may point that he has more backing than Tatila behind him, which he did not want to reveal that it was actually Bazini behind him. If the the Don had agreed with his terms in this meeting there would be no need to have the chief or show of power.

He should have never said anything after his Father said No. As much as I hate to say this, this was the Moment that Sonny lost any chance of Heading The Family. @manufran02 bcuz of your comment...I just realize that it's because of Sonny, that they attempted to kill Vito..If you really think about it, bcuz of Sonny showing interest in this deal when his father clearly said No...that sparked the idea for Sollozzo to kill off Vito, So Sonny will become boss and hop on the bandwagon for Sollozzo's business..but Sollozzo is stupid in my opinion bcuz what he did was way to risky, I mean c'mon..you killed Sonny's father why would he wanna do business with you
