I New York City, there are clearly defined boroughs. I suppose that having the initial of each borough in front of the numbers of the routes that service each one makes traveling and commuting simpler (although this sentence is from from that ;) ). IMO, the convention is appropriate for the geography of NYC.
What is weird is that today I saw three I think they were TMC RTS 06s (Im not completely sure look up tmc rts 06 and click on a video by TheTransitMan123 that shows an Orion 5 also in the picture during the day) running on the Q46 and 27. On the side they said MTA Bus _____ and on the back they did not say MTA Bus or MTA New York City Transit Bus. All of these lines are NYCTA.
I dont really remember, but now they have the 6400s and still have RTS-06s
Also, kind of weird today I saw three RTS buses (Im not sure what model they were, im not good with rts's but it had the slanted window in the back) that were running on the Q46 and Q27. They were MTA buses and in the back it just had the MTA logo. Weird cause they were older and the 46 and 27 are NYCT lines.
Im not sure when they retired it, but I do know that they use 6400 hybrids now. Im not completely sure where the 6300 ones are. Im only familiar with the 46, 27, 88, 43, 36, 75, and 1.
People tend put General Motors and anti-fuel economy in the same sentence. But this is a great example of a GM hybrid powertrain that likely saves over 100,000 gallons of diesel per year. Thanks for the vid.
The hybrid buses featured in this video are not powered by GM technologies. They use BAE Systems' HybriDrive, and are built by DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses North America, otherwise known as Orion Bus Industries (or simply Orion).
love the music. lol @ 1:09 to 1:30 the Q88 is near where Iive. (LeFrak City).

Here in DC our routes letters aren't just restricted to Q, B, X, M, and S. We have every letter except for I and O.
From J13 to C29 to Y9 to 15K. There is a whole lot more but I'm not naming them all. Over 330 routes. Most of them in Virginia.

The person who took the picture must have had his finger in front of the lens while taking it. Is that what yo ure referring to?

There are couple being bounced back between NYCT and MTA Bus sort of frequently.

Do you know when that picture was taken? If it was 6371 it must be a few years old

According to the file's properties, it was taken on 5/12/2004, at 11:26 AM.
I haven't been keeping up with the MTA much lately, but when did QV retire 6371?
