These people may be very poor, but at least the kids aren't fat and out of shape like they are here in the U.S. They're playing like children are supposed to. Unlike here the kids here who are behind their computer playing their violent games. They get fat eating Twinkies and getting fat. Strides have been made in education, healtcare, and other social services. We also cannot ignore the effects of economic embargoes when considering a countries economic circumstances. What strikes me about this vid is that I've never seen people 'hang out' on the street like this before. Here we walk down our streets robotically blank faced with our arms full of shopping bags and in our residential areas no one really ventures outside of their own home. Quite sad really.

I don't understand why people put down Cuba so much. They believe in things completely differently than we do, of course anything non-American would look terrible to us. There is poverty in Cuba, but nothing like the kind in the US. I don't see the pimps, crack heads, and gangs filled in their "falling apart" neighborhoods. That said, if the embargo were to be lifted, Castro would no longer have an excuse to blame his failed socialism and failed economy on the United States. The average Cuban depends heavily on hard currency, and they should not have to suffer any more than they are under the bearded dictator.
With the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba lost a major market for its products (sugar, etc.) and a major benefactor and sponsor...Now not only does the poor average Cuban citizen have to suffer the consequences of a failing economy, they have to suffer the consequences of an embargo supported by Cuban American politicians who do not realize that if the embargo really worked, it would have worked 43 years ago. Castro the tyrant is still in power, and the embargo is only hurting the average Cuban.

What strikes me about this vid is that I've never seen people 'hang out' on the street like this before. Here we walk down our streets robotically blank faced with our arms full of shopping bags and in our residential areas no one really ventures outside of their own home. Quite sad really.

I don't understand why people put down Cuba so much. They believe in things completely differently than we do, of course anything non-American would look terrible to us. There is poverty in Cuba, but nothing like the kind in the US. I don't see the pimps, crack heads, and gangs filled in their "falling apart" neighborhoods. With the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba lost a major market for its products (sugar, etc.) and a major benefactor and sponsor...Now not only does the poor average Cuban citizen have to suffer the consequences of a failing economy, they have to suffer the consequences of an embargo supported by Cuban American politicians who do not realize that if the embargo really worked, it would have worked 43 years ago. Es lo que pasa cuando tus amos yankes sumen en bloqueos criminales a una isla que aún asi obtiene indices de desarrollo social y humano más altos que los de tu pais. Esto es Cuba, con su bloqueo y su erradicación total de malnutrición infantil y pobreza extrema. Ahora tu pais, 50-60% de la población vive en la más absoluta miseria, un 15% de malnutrición donde niños trabajan desde los 11 años apr ano morirse de hambre en el basurero de afueras de la ciudad. ¿ Donde esta el Ghetto ?

La habana no tiene colores, es un day mare, está peor de cuando la dejé. Los niños se divierten jugando pero estan obligados a madurar rápido por la situación. Estraño mucho a mi habana pero me duele verla asi.

Recuerdo cuando, no muchos años atrás, podían salir a las calles los niños mexicanos. Mi país, hermoso como es, apela siempre a la supuesta libertad que nos brinda una república "democrática". Aquí es común escuchar estúpidos discursos empapados de neoliberalismo, llenándose la boca de "libertad" y "bienestar económico". ¡Nada más falso! ¿qué clase de libertad tenemos si no podemos salir a las calles y qué clase de bienestar si salimos por oleadas a los EUA (cuando para ellos somos criminales)?

@honolulou100 Yo shut up. FYI. Cuba is thriving on tourism. Just cause you americans arnt allowed to visit dosnt mean the rest of the world cant. It is actually the most popular tropical destination for us Canadians and Europeans. Ive been there and many of my friends have too, it a shame you cant.

This area is next to Havana Vieja - the area restored for tourists. People seemed happy when I visited. But, let's hope their lot gradually improves without losing anything.

@trythisagain Thanks for the upload man, It was great watching this I grew up in that area until I was 11 I haven't been there in 10 years. I hope soon to go back don't know if ill be able to handle it. And for all the shit talkers I wouldn't have wanted to grow up any other place.
