@justchill919 that phrase says the" Love" of money is the root of all evil. meaning that if you love money more than anything then evil will arise, but time and time again Jews have shown that Hashem is first than anything, and through centuries, they have keep their fidelity to Hashem, no matter what, and I believe that if they are prosperous is because they have earn it, and I have seen Jews help so many people, you don't even know, May Hashem bless Israel forever!! Shalom.
@justchill919 You must have a sad life to browse youtube looking for videos to post racist comments on. This is not a selfless opinion, nor is it humble. It's the same lies spewed by Jew haters for centuries. Yes even the Nazis used that as their rallying cry against Jews. That's whose footsteps you are following in by spewing that nonsense. Go visit Ramallah or Tehran and see where the real evil is.
@NavDDG54 I don't think this is racist at all. The Torah very clearly demands not to accumulate riches, it is just wrong. Yours are not words of love, this is not the way to refer to anybody who simply has a different opinion -with wich many of us agree by the way-. Peace.
@NavDDG54 I can see how you see me as a young troll looking to spread trouble, but I really hope you don't, friend. I, myself, am atheist. Therefore I feel nothing has inherent value. Anyways, I am not looking to engage in an online altercation, so I will take all possible measures to do so. @jesterspeck1 I love to teach about Judaism! No true Jews believes in Jesus, despite what many on here claim. To believe in Jesus in any form as the messiah flies in the face of the core beliefs of Judaism. If you have any specific questions you don't want to put here feel free to send me a mail :)
Isa:9:6: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. This is speaking of Yeshua.
Just as Gen 3:15 is speaking of Yeshua. Look at Micah 5:2...How can you deny
the Truth? The Crusaders were Christian in name only.
Phenomenal song, gorgeous video. The alternating German-English-Hebrew gives meaning to where we are and where we've been. Chag Sameach, Happy and Healthy Chanukah, you all. LW

im sorry..i just have to ask a question..it might be bad..it might not be....so im a christian..but i like the idea of hanukkah..and the festival of lights..and i got a minorah...im i going to go to hell becaus i like to religions?
@ShelbyANDTele No you are not going to hell. Judaism has always been shared, and Christianity has its roots in this Judaism as well. Explore the holiday (actually a minor one) talk to a rabbi or some one Jewish and learn more if you wish. Curiosity about other religions is nothing to be ashamed of.
@ShelbyANDTele - Not at all! I am pretty sure God is awakening you toward our Hebraic faith roots like He is doing with so many others around the world! If you have more questions on this subject you are welcome to write to me privately.
@ShelbyANDTele I could be wrong, it's happened before; but I believe that Chanukah predates Jesus by a couple of hundred years. It IS a post biblical holiday; more recent in history thus not mentioned in the Torah -(known as the old testament' to Christians). Ask your priest..it may well be possible that Jesus celebrated it.....and then, possibly not. - LBuddG
@ShelbyANDTele hannukah is celebrating that the jewish people survived the oppression of the greeks and that even though many people assimilated into their culture and there were hardly any Jews left we still survived. without that miracle, there would be no christianity either.
@ShelbyANDTele DEFINITELY TOTALLY NOT! Of course you can celebrate Hanukkah and be Christian. It's a miracle that God did. Just because it happened in Jewish history doesn't mean you shouldn't celebrate it! :) I'm Christian and we have a menorah. Our friends are Messianic Jewish and they introduced us to it and we celebrate Hanukkah every year with them and I love it. It's lots of fun! Plus, latkes are totally delicious. I'm weird because I eat them with ketchup, haha. Have fun!!!
@AGmadeline17 thank you so much..this was the ancer i was looking 4...every one had great things to say..but i wanted to know if other people did this to...and you sound just like me..but not the ketchup part!!!
@Dottherabbitrulz Yiddish is very similar to German, it is a mixture of German, Hebrew, and a few other languages, with German being the base of the language
the menorah in the temples had 7 candles to represent the week. our menorahs now have 9, the one in the middle is meaningless it is used to light the others. the 8 other represent the 8 days of the miracle when the oil burned when there was only enough oil for one day
@NavDDG54 Thanks- thats really interesting!!! I have a collection menorah (Because i am not jewish) which i got in the holocaust museum in washington! Its really cool!!!
@NavDDG54 I beg to differ. G-d's word is not meaningless. I'm constantly amazed at the meanings as I discover new ones! Moses had to make it per how G-d showed him, Num 8:4. If one meaning is the 7 days of the week, would the candle used to light the rest represent the Sabbath? I've heard this candle referred to as the servant candle, which also has meaning. Zech 4 says the 7 lights are “the eyes of the LORD, ranging over the whole earth.” Lots of meanings! Happy Chanukah!
@NavDDG54 Please accept my apologies for misunderstanding. Sorry if I opened a can of worms, so to speak. Your reply has me confused. I thought the original menorah in the Tabernacle had 7 branches from the day it was created – what am I missing? It seems you are saying something was added to the original. Help me understand. Thanks!
@calichigal the original did, I am referring to the modern one which has 9, the Shamesh, is the added one since each of the 8 represent the days of the miracle, the 9th was added for various reasons, none of which relate to the temple menorah
@NavDDG54 Silly me! Somehow I got stuck thinking about the original menorah. Thanks for your patience. By the way, really enjoyed the video - have added it to my Chanukah playlist. Happy Chanukah!
Excuse Me, please disregard my ignorance. I am very interested in Semitic Religions and Abrahamic faiths, however, I have always wondered and continue not to know something. What does the specific number of candles of the Menorah remember? The six days of creation? Something Else? Please answer.
@robertob1996 The Hanukah menorah has 8 lights. After the Bais Hamigdosh was rededicated, there was only enough kosher oil for one day. But the oil burned for 8 days, enough time to make new oil. Actuallhy, this was not quite a true miracle as if kosher oil was not available, though it was prefered, any oil could be used. I forget the Hebrew term, but this was considered an extra "favor" from God - a gift that was not really necessary. So to show our gratitude we light for 8 nights.
@NavDDG54 In terms of the Hebrew terminology, things do not translate well into English. Off hand I cannot remember the correct terms, but there are different words for unnatural occurances which serve a purpose (i.e., splitting the Sea of Reeds), and those which do not (i.e., the oil). The Hebrew word for the former is usually translated as miracle.
Concerning the oil, in the same manner we start with one light on the first night and increase until 8 lights. We are only required to light one candle or oil lamp a night. The rest are something extra -- exceeding the mitzvah to show how greatly we appreciate God's favor. Out of love, He did something for us that was extra and not required. In return, out of love we do something for Him which is extra and not required.
BEST VERSION I'VE FOUND! (from one of a very small Jewish community in the Philippines). Hope you don't mind; I'll be using this song in our celebration tomorrow.
Excellent rendition by Theodore Bikel. My grandmother always recites the Yiddish version and it's much more enjoyable, IMO. Gives it that old country feel.
First Yiddish, then English, then Hebrew. The opening title says in Hebrew (right to left!), "Chag Chanukah Sameach!" which translates literally as Festival Chanukah Happy. So you can see how Chanukah is spelled in Hebrew: Chet, Nun, Vav, Chaf, Heh (unlike English with many spelling variations). Interesting bio of Theodore Bikel on Wiki: played Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof over 2,000 times, got an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, many movies, born in Vienna, etc.
i know the story!

Off hand I cannot remember the correct terms, but there are different words for unnatural occurances which serve a purpose (i.e., splitting the Sea of Reeds), and those which do not (i.e., the oil). The Hebrew word for the former is usually translated as miracle.

@NavDDG54 Continued.

Hope you don't mind; I'll be using this song in our celebration tomorrow.

the yiddish version sounds nicer, more rejoicing imo.
