We Maconites are so lucky--no, BLESSED! For this Mother's Day Tornado last year to do so much unbelieveable distruction (this vid doesn't show the half of it; remember the Westgate/Bloomfield community and Macon State College area?) and not one serious injury or fatality at 5:30 in the AM when most people were asleep? That in itself was pretty miraculous, considering that there had to be cars on I-75 and I-16 with workers headed to Robins AFB, GEICO, and other places.
I personally was awake, watching WMAZ at the time, and heard Ben Jones issue the warning even b/f the sirens sounded. I quickly gathered up my children, and we all got in the tub of an interior bathroom and prayed as the winds gusted overhead. I think our house was the only one on our block that didn't receive ANY damage at all. Thank God for his mercy! My husband, who was out of town at the time, couldn't believe it when I told him what had happened. We all have so much to be thankful for!
I work for Walthall oilc company in Macon. I had to camp out at one of the company stores on oculmulgee blvd in east macon with a shotgun in case of looters. That night was almost as intense as the night before! But I was relieved because instead of looting the place, a couple of people from a neighborhood down the road came and kept me company because they didnt want that store looted no more then I did. It's somethin else to think that that storm harmed so few people, other then property.
ya i live on the lake and all i did this summer was work to fix are house and last month we finally finished restoring our house... this has been a life changing experience for everyone especially my friends who were camping arrowhead and couldn't get out of their camper
it was crazy, the tornado came out of nowhere it went right over my house but the only thing that happened was that trees had fallen down, but its times like this that you realize what you have and are thankful for what you have because in one day one minute it can all be taken away.
i live in macon,ga and my step dad is a sherrif he said it was just horrible and so many homes were destroyed still hear in macon all the tress arent cleaned up yet anywase this was a very bad storm im thanking god so much that r home didnt get toched at all my house looks like nothing when through it but about 3 miles down the road there are trees every where there cleaned up now but thank goodness my side of town didnt get hit :)
I live in Macon too. I saw every thing but this part of it. I am so lucky tho because I live in Northridge Dr. off of Thomston Rd. So I pretty close to it but nothing but one tree fell in my neiborhood :) but when I went to look around with my family I was like 0_o lol but it was sad to see my city like this :(
i am so lucky. the only bad thing that happened to me that day was the lights went off. i live in jones c. and did get hit hard but no REAL damage. i am gonna subsribe to you because u are the only 1 who i think really cares about it. i am only a kid though and i go to clifton ridge (6th grade)
Can't believe it finally did happen to us. It seems like Georgia and Tennessee are getting more and more tornadoes each year...I was awake at 5:30 am when the sirens went off. I turned on the new and sure enough two tornadoes were destroying West and South Macon. F-2 or F-3 I believe ? Anyways, I was so shocked to wake up to that much damage to our town, as well as thousands of others in Macon.
The pic at 3:16 is of my family home. Thank God nobody was home that night/morning, or we'd all be in heaven now!

Eisenhower got it really bad =/
A huge tree branch fell into my grandparent's house inside the guest room.
Me and my family are soooo lucky that the tornado didn't ruin our house. A tree just fell in our driveway =/

I know. It was bad, huh? Before, my parents couldn't see it from their house. Now, with all the trees gone, they totally can.
