Being both a Fall/ Pavement fan (U.S.), I have to say that in the last 4 years I've been listening to more and more Fall. (There's so much more of it, too).From what I've heard, here are the most obvious ripoffs of/tributes to the Fall from Pavement:
1. New Face In Hell > Conduit For Sale!
2. Hip Priest > Our Singer (drum pattern/song structure almost identical), general vox on S&E
3. Artwork (Hex Enduction> S&E and Watery D. esp.)
The end is brilliant...Brix says "This is my happening and it freaks me out" over and over...a line from the classic, 1970 L..A.. movie "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls".
I want to meet Brix one day and tell her how ace she is. Would like to do that to MES one day too if I didn't think he'd just look at me like "Yeah. Now fuck off."
Say what you want about Brix, everything about her joining The Fall was perfect. She was just what the band needed at the time, a kind of surprise shift towards new wave candy-coated punk which caused an interesting musical dynamic of contrast and tension...she made the band more elastic and ethereal, a quality they never really had before her arrival. She was also a radiant dose of beauty much like Kim Gordon in Sonic Youth. She saved them from becoming an obscure Punk History footnote.
I don't really get the connection between the Fall and Pavement. Besides both bands having lead "singers" that don't really sing, they don't seem all the similar to me. The Fall are, of course, genius and Pavement is pretty good in their own right.
Some of the comparison believe it or not came from the visual presentation of their recordings. Specifically the cover art of the first few Pavement albums that had a similar hand fashioned, white out and scrawl style to many of The Fall's album covers.

Being both a Fall/ Pavement fan (U.S.), I have to say that in the last 4 years I've been listening to more and more Fall. (There's so much more of it, too).From what I've heard, here are the most obvious ripoffs of/tributes to the Fall from Pavement:
1. New Face In Hell > Conduit For Sale!
2. Hip Priest > Our Singer (drum pattern/song structure almost identical), general vox on S&E
3. Artwork (Hex Enduction> S&E and Watery D. esp.)

Say what you want about Brix, everything about her joining The Fall was perfect. She was just what the band needed at the time, a kind of surprise shift towards new wave candy-coated punk which caused an interesting musical dynamic of contrast and tension...she made the band more elastic and ethereal, a quality they never really had before her arrival. She was also a radiant dose of beauty much like Kim Gordon in Sonic Youth. She saved them from becoming an obscure Punk History footnote.

I don't really get the connection between the Fall and Pavement. Besides both bands having lead "singers" that don't really sing, they don't seem all the similar to me. The Fall are, of course, genius and Pavement is pretty good in their own right.

Some of the comparison believe it or not came from the visual presentation of their recordings. Specifically the cover art of the first few Pavement albums that had a similar hand fashioned, white out and scrawl style to many of The Fall's album covers.

AWESOME prolific band!! - one of best & original sounding bands ever! - re: eyewoodsay on the car ad - generally, I don't like music used in ads - but was so amazed to hear the Fall in an ad - and that song has such a killer wicked beat and bass line - I loved seeing that!!
