My gosh, the f'ing dumbass comments on this post. First - Rory never was "not accepted" by the Stones, he left the poorly structured audition because he didn't like the feel of the Stones, he was a frontman, he already had his own tour dates in Japan, and he ALWAYS marched to his OWN beat. And the Stones are incredible, w or w/o Rory. Keef & Co didn't need a third front star, Rory would have been a bad fit for this band. And as far as the Rolling Stone Top 100, many worthy stars arent in.

Rory was the real deal!! A TRUE musician. He was very much loved in Europe. I had the pleasure of seeing him live in a small town in Germany (1974). There was a snow storm that night but the little hall was packed. He must have played for 3 hrs. He was amazing! RIP brother!

I think he played as well in the studio, but live he had more time to extend numbers and improvise, plus the atmosphere and excitement affected him and came through in his playing. On the other hand, his subtlety came through more on the studio versions, especially the more introspective numbers that didn't get played live much. I think his live and studio work highlight different qualities and I enjoy both equally.

Rory will always be a favourite amongst guitarists, and people who like good honest music, anywhere in the world. Edge is famous cos he´s in a pop band and uses a delay pedal. gary Moore is famous cos he deserves it.
