  • OOOH YESSS KISS ROCKS

  • This demo version seems less polished than the studio version released, and perhaps some timing issues, but I look for what is interesting and what to enjoy about everything they've done even if I find it to be less than perfect. They really had a unique sound when they started out, and many fresh and exciting ideas. The more I listen, and watch, the more I enjoy, even as a fan since the mid 70s.

  • @thegroupharmonyalley right on sir!

  • @wagram Thanks...I'm female though, btw....lol...regards, Christine Vitale

  • I prefer the live version of this, but I think if they had the kind of studios available then that we have now, I might feel different. It just seems like they weren't able to fully let loose in their early studio work.

  • Love that look on Ace's face....

  • @riverlioness Cocainnn

  • I am a new Kiss fan and I discovered this song live first. I can say all the studio and demos or whatever are shit compared to when they do this live. Especially with Criss on vocals.

  • @deadlyoneable I always said that a good artist shows what can he do only LIVE, because in STUDIO you can do almost everything. Thats why nowadays artists mostly sucks ...

  • @deadlyoneable I Love KISS! To say that there studio demos are shit....u obviously have alot to learn if your gonna be in this Army!

  • @NROD22 Relax man, I didnt say all their studio or demos are shit. I was just making the point of how the live version of THIS song make the studio version sound like shit.

  • @deadlyoneable you don`t know shit.

  • @deadlyoneable You can credit Eddie Kramer for that- he produced Alive, and it was mostly re-created in the studio, believe it or not; it's true. Eddie said he didn't have to re-do most of Ace's stuff- and a lot of Peter's drumming was left intact, too- but so much of it was redone in the studio... This demo was produced by Eddie, too- famous for his work with Hendrix and Pink Floyd.. Zeppelin, too, I think.

  • @deadlyoneable everything kiss did live was better that was how and why they got so big their live albums proved it if not for alive I and II their would b no kiss it got peeps to the shows

  • notice how the cover is different as well

  • @bobcatallstar7 whenever i see it i think Gene has an apple in his mouth instead of his tongue

  • i love this version better than the original AND the Alive! version

  • Neskutečné,neuvéřitelné...unátní-to jsou KIISS

  • peter has such an awesome rock voice!

  • @thafoofa i say it's more jazzy, but who cares! He's awsum!

  • @LeMcCHarStar4ever Yeah, it is jazzy at that. Either way, his voice is excellent for singing this song.

  • @thafoofa totally. he's amazing

  • @thafoofa totally. he's amazing

  • Thanks' for posting this! I think Peter got a little too bluesy on this version and like his harder rock approach on the first LP.

  • really clean recording...great work

  • dayyyyyyyyyyyum. Ace 's tearing that shit up !!! that solo sounds sweet as hell !

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

  • KISS IS THE BEST, FUCK THE REEEEST !!! Best song of Peter Criss ! <3

  • So cool... KISS IS THE BEST, FUCK THE REST!!!!!!!

  • COOL!

  • cool feedback at 3:04

  • BETTER than album verson.

  • This is my fav solo to play

  • WHERE CAN I GET THESE MP3s ?......

  • @doedoe691 Ya can get it seekin towards "First KISS Demo" CD at google ...

  • @doedoe691 I have the latest Real Player which I'm converting these demos to MP3. Takes a few minutes but it's pretty much hassle-free.

  • @marktheshark12 I use real player and youtube downloader.

  • only song by kiss tht i like.lol

  • @ToasterPankake sorry but look up got to choose, modern day delilah, god of thunder, Ive had enough, and tell me ur head doesnt explode

  • Hit it!

  • nice version

  • Demo or Not...Still THE BEST KISS SONG EVER!!!!!

  • @83jbolt - agreed....awesome different solo too

  • What kills me about hearing most of these demos is that they more accurately portray the energy and excitement of Kiss live than the studio versions, this one included. How can they continually neuter such a powerful sound?!

  • great great great great song...one of my favourites..peter criss is fantastic!

  • Fun fact, Ace didn't know he was allergic to the silver spray he put in his hair and suffered from a bad rash caused by the spray.

  • Way underrated song, it kicks ass & so does the band itself :)

  • is it just me or did ace blink when this photo was taken?

  • @tarot9230 If you notice that Ace has the silver hairspray in this photo, he said that it gave him an allergic reaction and his eyes swelled up. Also on Hotter than hell, when they took the photo, ace's face was screwed up from a car accident and couldnt put on the makeup. It was just airbrushed onto the photo.

  • @TrueRocker100 cool!i didnt know that!

  • Peter doesnt look too happy

  • もーたまりませんっ イキそうですっ!

  • Peter Criss is in the floor under God :O

  • oooooooooooooo por dios amo es rolaaaaaaa kuando la kntaron n su ultimo konciertho el la ciudad de mexiko fue wenial oo yeahhh kisss los amoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • what is up with the catmans makeup? :O

  • @poopoohed1993 That's just how it was when they first begun KISS. Ace didn't hav the white when he first was in the band, but that was before this album came out. Paul's makeup has changed from white with blue shadows to the star that we all know and love. Gene's makeup has changed slightly to more thinner flames it seems like. Ace's makeup hasn't really changed all that much, other than the blue shadows in Dynasty and Unmasked. If any of what I've said has helped, ur welcum.

  • I love this version and the live version better than the recorded version by far.

  • wait nevermind Ace was doing that my fault...

  • wow Ace wasn't playing this everything was Paul Stanley

  • Its amazing how much peter criss from the early early days and eric singer sound so much alike. Fate?

  • THERE GOES THE CATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoa holy hell man this is rare where did u get this at? last i heard this was on my copy of kiss's wicked lester sessions album idk where u got this but this is very VERY rare supposedly these are demos from when ace walked in on the first day and said u guys play ill follow

  • @RandyRhoadsisGod82 Its on the several KISS Cd's, for example on the unofficial "KISS Wicked Lester" that cotains the WL album plus the 5 demo songs. Or at the "First Demo" Cd. There was some different releases on the silver CD's, check your local music store with an 90's music and vinyl releases, or visit eBay, maybe you will get a nice one !

  • @KISSbestfan Brother, I don't know if you are KISS' best fan, but with all this cool stuff, you have my vote. Well done!

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce Course Im - since I was born. I remember being very very young (prolly my earliest memories) and hearin on a radio "God Gave RnR to ya ..."

Till that day I knew that KISS had changed all my life. And I dont care if Gene is a rich faggot - he made a big piece of great music, and I like it !

PS. Surely KISS songs will rock my wedding as well !

  • @KISSbestfan God Gave R'nR to you is not really a kiss song....it was written (I'm pretty sure) by Russ Ballard-Rod Argent ...and is on a couple ARGENT lp's

  • @xxzeon Men I know that, cause every KISS fan shouldve know this, as well as the fact that even King Of The Nighttime World was a cover. But the God Gave .. song was a pull to the KISS. Thats why I didnt gone into pop or rap (thanks to God)

  • @KISSbestfan king of the night time world wasnt a cover song. it was written by paul stanley and bob erzin

  • @rockypup1968 If you arent still sure check out the Kim Fowley & The Hollywood Stars. They made this song.

And dont be dissapointed - even Stairway to Heaven wasnt all made by Zepp ...

  • @KISSbestfan i think you find that the hollywood stars wrote kings of the night time world and kim fowley sold the song to kiss to record and also alice cooper recorded it as well but he never used it, but i dont think they wrote black diamond but well done on the demos my friend ....

  • @rockypup1968 Of course that Black Diamond is completly a KISS song. Almost all KISS biggest hits were made by them.

  • @rockypup1968 KISS bought most of their songs in general, they just covered it up so it wouldnt SEEM like they wrote no songs LOL, love the band but they are not songwriters.

  • @WeedVulva You don't know what you're talking about. They wrote nearly everything they do- and where they didn't, proper credit was given, like King of the Nighttime World, Is That You?, Hide Your Heart, etc.

"Bought most of their songs"? LOL

  • @RandyRhoadsisGod82 : i think this was also on "first kiss, last licks"

  • @RandyRhoadsisGod82 No, this is the Eddie Kramer produced demo.

  • Ace colored his hair with silver spray paint... NOT hair color spray xD...

  • Actually this was not Peters first attempt at his make up. They did their own make up all the time. but for the cover shoot they hired a makeup artist. This is what her interpretation of Peters make up ended up being. But yes he did not like it.

  • anyone know where i can get this version? it's way better than the studio version

  • mm pues que yo recuerde esta cancion ya estaba desde antes en wicked lester..pero bueno tu eres el mejor fan...¬¬

  • I love this demo! I wish that it could have been released on a KISS 'best of' album as an added rare bonus track. This sounds more raw and powerful than the finished studio version. Thanks for sharing it. :o)

  • notable el tema viva kiss

  • An excellent version of my favorite KISS song. RAW AS HELL!

  • Wow. I like this version way better than the one on the record. Way more energy and soul. Sounds more like the version they played in the live shows. Peter sounds awesome.

  • I saw this live, the first gig I ever went to, awesome song, great band

  • Epic

  • You can just hear KISS giving you 110% in this...raw, hungry, scream of true rock.

  • so rough and raw i love it

  • Ace frehley is why i picked up a guitar at 10yrs old over 30 yrs later still lovin it!

  • regarding which version is better, the band does not always have a say in which version is released. the record label often has final say. especially back then.

record labels are notorious for releasing the most glossy, produced versions of songs.

  • Super!

  • The KISS of the first 3 albums for me was the best KISS in make up in terms of power and intention, you could feel their hunger. After Destroyer things changed, it was a more calculated affort.

  • such great singing from Peter here!

  • When I first heard this demo...I had to agree with my own heart and say that it does have alot more energy and heighth than the LP version....I could listen to this alot....I wish they'd release a whole collection of all their demos...not just what was on the box set!

  • At the risk of trying to sound like a "true hardcore fan", I'll stick with my original comment: this version is better. While the sound quality is better on the album, the tempo and the energy is much better on this.

  • Look how different Peters make up is in this photo.

  • @Josephandalice yeah it was some make up artist who made peter look like that...

  • to my knowledge they played on Genes demo songs for Love Gun session NOT before.

  • while this is a great sounding demo, i think the album version is better in every aspect, when people hear demos they always predictably say. "the demo is better than the album version!", or "i like this coz it sounds raw!" they think it makes them sound like a true hardcore fan.

  • hahahaha i couldn't say it better, rock on bro!

  • @joshofcontempt very true... but sometimes the demo actually IS better than the album version... :D

  • Comment removed

  • Agree with you 95%. Peters voice is way better in this rugged form in my opinion, I always loved his voice in this song.

  • @joshofcontempt....Why would it make them sound like a hardcore fan....you could look at it either way...if they said the studio version is better then they would be leaning more towards what the bandmembers and producers decided on...It might be that alot of the original versions are harder and heavier and they had to play down some of the mixes for the LP to be played on the radio or commercial appeal....I like alot of LP stuff and I like alot of demo stuff...It depends on the song or my taste

  • exactly, people like to suggest that the LP versions are too commercial sounding and that they mainly only appeal to casual radio listeners, and that the harder and heavier versions appeal more to us "true" fans, i generally think that bands choose to release their best sounding versions

  • Ace is God

  • @andresc228 i agree!

  • @andresc228 : Ace IS God isn't he? Possibly the most underrated guitar soloist ever.

  • @andresc228 And Gene is the Devil

  • Eddie Kramer produced this, that's why it sounds better than the one produced by the two nitwits.

  • Those two "nitwits" produced two of the greatest KISS albums ever, so STFU!

  • @muffirub The songs are the greatest KISS songs, the production on the albums sucks. The band even thinks so. Hotter than Hell is the worst sounding album I have ever heard. It sounds like they recorded it in a gas station men's room. With the quality of songwriting on those albums if they had a producer like Eddie Kramer they would have sounded much better. So you STFU little Muffy.

  • @GLAVIN1313 Perhaps you spend too much time in gas station men's room looking for your next hot date to really listen to the music? How much money do you think Neil would have been willing to pay Eddie at that stage of the bands career? (Considering that he didn't even pay the "nitwits" what he had areed to pay them.)

  • they recorded this song without the great guitar line in the intro. At the end of 1974, they started to include the guitar intro that you can hear in Alive!

I guess this guitar line in the intro was created by Paul, but am not sure... maybe was Ace´s? or Sean Delaney´s? ...?

  • This is surely Paul's accord, Paul has ended up a music school, so he know guitar notes as well ... And that solo is played noteable ...

  • @hunt2727 This was recorded with Ace. The studio owed Paul and Gene 1000 dollars so they recorded 5 demos in 73.

  • The solo is probably one of the greatest kiss solos

  • Dude, this sounds better than the actual album version

  • Paul's original makeup was a circle around his eye and Ace told him it looked retarted and told him to change it to a star

  • no it wiasnt

  • If you read Behind The Mask it sais exactly

Ace Frehley: I Designed Paul's Makeup. Paul's original makeup was a circle around his eye like the fuckin' dog, Pete The Pup, in Our Gang (Laughs). I said, "Why don't you do a star instead of that? That looks retarted."

  • yea a quote from (which i have) a book that kiss didnt right. aces stories have changed so much over the years and every kiss fan knows that. he had the bandit makeup BEFORE the star, so that wouldnt even make sense.

  • Paul Stanley originaly had a star before the Bandit but no lipstick. His bandit design was made but he didn't like it. In 1974 at the Academy Of Music show Paul Stanley wore the bandit makeup because one of his managers or somebody told him the star was looking too girly. Paul immediately changed back to the star we know today because he didn't feel that it represented him

  • Love Peters voice..so underrated as a vocalist...

  • this sounds so raw! better then the verson that wus put on the record

  • Thts because Eddie Kramer had a heavier view on music.

  • what an AWESOME version.....

  • Still beleive this is the version that should have made it to the album, they really botched up the albums long, overdrawn "detuning" ending, this ending's perfect and Peter's voice sounds better here.

  • when did paul have a siver bandit?

  • Prior to this, Paul was, "The Bandit" and wore a makeup design that was somewhat reminiscent of The Lone Ranger that S-U-C-K-E-D! When Paul wanted to change it, Ace designed the Starchild makeup for him.

  • not bad 4 a 1st attempt

  • why does peter have a different mask on the album cover?

  • This was the first attepmt to his make-up. He used it only for few photo sessions, but later he changed it, because he didnt like that style.

Same way Paul has changed his silver bandit make-up to the black star

  • Actually, Peter's makeup was done by a makeup artist hired by Joel Brodsky. He didn't like Peter's version of the makeup. Peter went back to his style of makeup immediately after this session, then refined it to what we all recognize.

Paul already had the Star, but it was suggested by Casablanca management to use the Bandit mask. Paul used it for one photo session, and one gig, and immediately went back to the Star.

  • That's not true at all.

They had a makeup artist come in to do Peter's.

  • @Directorboy91....Thats what cooperst765 JUST SAID....So did thunderstruck665....Am I the only one who can read?...It's been explained all over this page a million times....Are u drunk or stonned?

  • What does the silver bandit makeup look like? and also what album is it that they don't like?

  • @KISSbestfan according to gene simmons, peter did his make-up how it is normally, but someone was hired to do their make-up fo the album photo shoot, thats why they all look slightly different

  • @KISSbestfan Peter had a professional to do his cat makeup for the first album.

  • @KISSbestfan @KISSbestfan

According to sources in the band, the reason for the difference in

Peter's make up is he was the only member that agreed to

have his facepaint done by the make up assistant to the photo

shoot. Thus Peter's make-up is completely different here.

I do agree with you in that, Paul had a different make up

    design called the bandit/lone ranger.

  • @IsraelDecoy actually, if u thnk about it, before the bandit/lone ranger makeup design, Paul had a white face and had blue shadows. Then he took off the white and started using red shadows. Then the star began to take its form. This is from my own knowledge because I hav seen pictures of Paul in many different forms lol. Hope maybe this kinda helped ya.......

  • @KISSbestfan Paul started with the star ,Then changed to the silver bandit and he didnt like it so he change it bac to the star before KISS was presented to the public !!!

  • @KISSbestfan Do you know when he first started to use the star? Was it for the first album cover perhaps?

  • @BathoryHordes He started with the star make-up, shortly after first attept to paint his face (early photo with KISS as a trio - mostly known for KISS fans). But somewhere in february Paul designed for himself a bandit make-up. There actually exist a photo session with that make-up, but he didnt kept it for long.

  • @KISSbestfan So he went from the star to the bandit to the star again?

  • @BathoryHordes Thats right ;)

  • @BathoryHordes I believe it was KISS' management,Bill Aucoin perhaps that asked Paul to try a different design rather than the star. Paul changed it to the bandit makeup very briefly. One or two shows and a photo shoot and decided he didn't like it and went back to the star. He felt it represented his persona much better and was much easier and quicker to put on.

  • Peter's makeup was done by a professional makeup artist for this photoshoot. Peter hated it so much that he switched it back immediately after the shoot was over.

  • @n2112bytor2112p

Actually when they did the photo shoot for the album cover, the record company hired makeup artists for the band. Peter was the only one that let the artists do his makeup. The rest of the band did their own makeup for the shoot like they were already used to doing.

  • @n2112bytor2112p

As KISSbestfan says, Peter already had the Catman make-up at the time of the release of their debut album, but he hired a professional to paint his face for the photo shoots.

  • @n2112bytor2112p Peter didn't apply his own makeup for that photo shoot. That is why.

  • @n2112bytor2112p If you read Gene's book...they hired a professional make up person to do the make up for them...they were used to doing it themselves but the management wanted this specific person to do it for them. Last time Peters makeup was like that.

  • @n2112bytor2112p : they brought in a makeup artist for the album cover shoot. peter didn't like it and went back to his original makeup

  • @n2112bytor2112p Bill Acoin brought in a professional make up artist for the record shoot. Check out Bill on youtube he tells the tale. Peter haated the makeup so he went back to the origanal version. This was not the origanal concept, look at early photos..

  • holy shit peter sounds great

  • I like this version better than the version that ended up on the record. It captures the rawness for sure.

  • wtf the solo is much better on this demo version, why didnt they keep it?

  • i meant the way the solo was written not the recording itself

  • Disco stole some of this albums looks..Believe me im joking..Something?

  • peter rules.

  • Peter criss is awsome!! And kiss

  • I've never heard this version of the frehley solo. It's a real treat to hear vintage kiss I've never before heard. Thank you. And thanks to Northwro's wife, too. just kidding dude. Had to.

  • Now I know what my old lady is really doing on those all weekend long shopping trips. ;)
