I find the comments that this woman is somehow off the groove rather funny. Perhaps you could float some videos of yourself "in the groove" to educate us a bit?
I am a bass guitar veteran. Sharon has some cool licks and techniques, no doubt. But she is not locking in with, and grooving to, the beat. She is rushing, right out of the gate. At times, she seems unsure of herself. She has great potential, but needs a lot of work to really "be there and represent". I say this with all due respect because I am a strong supporter of female musicianship, but still honest with constructive criticism.

I don't know what she is trying to do, but she is not very good. This about the level I was at about 3 months of playing; I have over 25 years under my belt now. I seen her other video and I feel the same way about that. I don't want to sound mean, but if she is teaching, then her students should be better than her in less than a few months. Her timing is off very bad. Her finger tremolo is pretty good, but when things are out of time it negates everything that is good.
No, I am not bragging. Do you play bass? And if so how long? I have been playing since I was 7. I don't consider myself the best, but after playing as long as I have, I believe that I have the knowledge to critique somebody's playing. And, this is not very good by any standards.
Considering that I was 6'3" by the time I was 12, I was not that small even 7. You still did not answer the questions: Do you even play bass, and if so how long? I play mainly a 4-string fretless bass, but I also play a 6-string fretted and have started to get into playing a 7-string fretless. So I's thinks I can play a bit. I also play piano, drums, violin, and I have been playing guitar before I started playing the bass. So I know a thing or 2 about
I'd say you were bragging by bringing up facts that aren't important. I see one place where she is slightly off in her timing. One! And the more I listen to it, the more I'm thinking she's not that off at all. Ever heard of off beats? syncopation? Surely a man of your amazing skill must be able to appreciate some unique style when it is presented. And since I don't see any videos on your account, I find it hard to believe your that good of a bassist at all, or that knowledgeable about theory.
I think you have bad timing, because she is just doing different rhythms and beats (which is supposed to sound off)...Although I see where you are going about her being a teacher...
It seems to me that this is an improvised piece of music. Therefore, it is what it is. It may not sound good to everyone, but we all have different ears, don't we? Maybe she played it exactly the way she wanted; maybe she made mistakes. Listen to any piece of live music by any artist, and you'll find "timing" errors. Go thy way and sin no more.
Keep on jammin' and ignore the idiots....they're everywhere....don't let them discourage you. You sound good and many of us have enjoyed your video. ( :
yeah... I know I am going to get slammed for this... but honestly: this video is horrible. There are many plucking mistakes and timing issues within it. When you consider how easy the groove is those mistakes shouldn't exist. Now, if this was some granny just trying to show that she can jam, then I wouldn't say anything except go granny. But no, this lady is trying to teach others. So honestly, she needs to practice quite a bit and post a vid with NO mistakes and some form of difficulty. Thanks.
none of us are perfect, and i dont think play like this is EASY. It takes years to develop a free feel and improvise stuff on the spot.
even marlowedk who's known as the bass teacher on youtube makes mistakes when he plays. so what's the big deal yo, some mistakes aint ruining the groove.
and really, being such a jerk on someone else's video aint helpin you getting anything, buddy.
To someone who is just starting out, this type of play can seem difficult. The problem I have with it is that teaching your mistakes to someone else improves nothing. marlowedk I have never heard of. Try looking up some of Victor Wooten's vids. And like I said earlier, I was not trying to be a jerk. 90% of my youtube comments are positive. I just comment when I feel the need to, good or bad. This has nothing to do with her improv skills. Just I don't think it should be used as a learning tool.
it says jamming (at part 1 ) , aint saying TEACHING or lesson. and it doesnt have any slow mo section either, so i think everyone knows that its just jamming just to give people the idea of improvising.
GREAT!!!! I need you every day to start work...
