i consider bruce springsteen's i'm on fire a real song on the verge of passion, the game of wanting someone in its very beginning. also burning, dead sexy in a way. i really like bat for lashes too but her version didn't make me think all the above. it was a great performance, kind of romanticly weak in comparison with the vibe i get from the original. just felt mooding and more depressing. anyway it passes tho. the version that should disappear from planet earth is actually electrelane's. lame
@Dorotheabrooks93 The Bruce Springsteen version is about being full of love and lust and a real desire to do something, but not necessarily having someone to full this burning desire with.
If Bat wanted to compare or be compared to Bruce she wouldn't have done the song at half timing. Its an amasing rendition and this sounds just like the album version. That's called talent! Stfu haters!
If you don't like Bat For Lashes, then you won't like this. Obviously. Does no one understand the concept of a cover song?? And as far as BFL goes, this is beautiful and haunting.
I like her voice alot, and all,but good god does she ever do any fast song's? What's a girl to do is about medium speed,if not then she reminds me alot of Mazy star. And if she does have a few fast songs please let me know what they are.
@wez2468 not sure what you call this genre - borders on classical though that's for sure - very different from bruce's country-ish rock and roll style. I understand why you think the song got raped though - it did - i just happen to like it. maybe her music will grow on you. i've hated music before that i now like
How can people Listen to her moan about sex? God I hate her so much her voice is so irritating. I Dont understand. Someone one inform me how shes good'?
@SydneySilly101 did you listen to the studio version of this song? it is eerie, spooky, haunting. they convey that pretty well in this version as well. As for the lyrics... whatever it's a cover, it's all about their (different) interpretation of it. and the appeal of the music has a lot to do with the interesting instrumentation - it's very unique. It's not all about her
I love the Eastern influence in the song. It's quite magical. Bruce's original left me feeling, dry...
Suppose it's just preference. I took 20 seconds listening to Tori's due to the comments regarding her version. She's a great artist, but it left me cringing >.<
fantastic! i was just posting my own version and up popped this one..i love the tempo and the delivery and i wouldn't be a bit suprised if bruce didn't love it too. bets wishes to you, pardon the critics, easy to judge when all you do is sit on your ass and pick at those who have the guts to try.
@ahstarkweather, bruce springsteen did the original which no cover can measure up to. this is a great cover, but the original i think is one of the greatest songs created
Thank you muchly for sharing this verry interisting dark hearted interpretation. I saw something new today, with the intent of her voice reduced melody its seductive and heat breaking. Thank you Bruce Springsteen ,Bat for Lashes and liafanog for my experience
Cute coverage but the original by Bruce is still the best....but it's great when great singers compliment the trail blazers by covering their music. : >
I don't think Natasha has been influenced by Tori much if at all, at least I don't see it and I don't think she's ever mentioned her? Natashas music makes me think of the 80's.. movies like Labyrinth, Legend, Willow.. and music like Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, and The Cure! I like this version better than Toris, but not quite as much as the original.
I am a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen and this song according to me can't be "covered" (I don't know if it's correct)...this cover wastes the magic of the song...
Tasha is a very imaginative, creative person with more talent than I've seen in years. I adore those who create art, I'm not ignorant and critique it. At least they try and sometimes succeed, where others don't even try and, therefor, NEVER succeed. Kudos to you, Tasha. I love your work.
I wonder why Natasha Khan doesn't give more props to Tori Amos, who has had clearly had a lot of influence on her. Tori has covered this too and I do think her version is better. This is good too but not on par.
Electrelane's cover is also (if very different than BfL's) an inspired rendition and perhaps my favourite version of the tune; All pulsing and sad-sweet.
Some songs just seem to lend themselves really well to different interpretations.
Being a simple, bare but elegant, brilliantly emotive original composition by Bruce surely helped, I'm guessing.
its about the relationship between a pigeon and a conker.the conker leaves for India on a half eaten tennis ball.the pigeon is sad but has a blankety blank cheque book and pen to keep it company so alls not that bad jelly bean.:0)
I'm not sure if you're aware of right-wing Evangelical Christians in America who rail against homosexuals in the most vitriolic terms. They tend to be the biggest closet-cases around. You, though, surpass them, kid. I just thought you should know.
There is something about her whole presence that is so soothing to my soul. Beautiful.....check out my original songs and covers if you get a chance. Peace.
