i consider bruce springsteen's i'm on fire a real song on the verge of passion, the game of wanting someone in its very beginning. also burning, dead sexy in a way. i really like bat for lashes too but her version didn't make me think all the above. it was a great performance, kind of romanticly weak in comparison with the vibe i get from the original. just felt mooding and more depressing. anyway it passes tho. the version that should disappear from planet earth is actually electrelane's. lame

As for the lyrics... whatever it's a cover, it's all about their (different) interpretation of it. and the appeal of the music has a lot to do with the interesting instrumentation - it's very unique. It's not all about her

I don't think Natasha has been influenced by Tori much if at all, at least I don't see it and I don't think she's ever mentioned her? Natashas music makes me think of the 80's.. movies like Labyrinth, Legend, Willow.. and music like Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, and The Cure! I like this version better than Toris, but not quite as much as the original.

I like the instrumentation. It's not necessarily supposed to be spot on. The off-tune sound makes it feel more haunting. You might have to reimagine what you think you know about music. It's not always about hitting the note. Sometimes it's about just barely missing it, in the right way.
