  • Yep I know Mr. Teague he is my best friend's dad they have pictures of this everywhere and his son is just as fast

  • DAAAANG that guy was fast.... too bad they overruled it

  • greatest non-play in football history

  • who the hell disliked this? best defensive play ever

  • Ran into Lamar Thomas at a high school basketball game he was announcing in Florida and as an Alabama fan couldn't help hitting him with a ROLL TIDE. He was shook and put his head down. He knew what I was saying. Good times!

  • @luvoldskool71 cool story bro :/

  • @luvoldskool71 That make you not feel like a giant POS for once in your life?

  • @MikeTheGreat200 Does it make you ? What a idiotic pointless statement. Go play in traffic troll.

  • Why is an Alabama fan referring to the entire conference as "we?" You are a fan of a team, not a conference.

  • @ghostfacekilah00 And that team is a member of the SEC. It's like state pride and nationalism. They're not mutually exclusive.

  • One of the best defensive plays I ever saw. It got George Teague drafted in the first round. No one cared what his 40 time was after seeing this play. The man had Football speed.

  • and teagues got the ball, best non play defensively ever!!!

  • "Alabama's cornerbacks don't impress me one bit. They're overrated. Real men don't play zone defense and we'll show them a thing or two come January 1st." -- Miami Receiver Lamar Thomas before the '93 Sugar Bowl. Thomas was involved in the Play of the Century.

  • @1bamasec i remeber that

  • @1bamasec Only one word to describe Lamar Thomas: DUMBASS!

  • "Alabama's cornerbacks don't impress me one bit. They're overrated. Real men don't play zone defense and we'll show them a thing or two come January 1st"- Lamar Thomas before the game.

This one play does a whole lot more than make LT look like an idiot, it sums up the whole of alabama football: never, even when ahead by 50 points or 30 yards, think that we'll EVER give away a win.

  • Getting OWNED...that's the only way people will remember Lamar Thomas. Thirty years from now, no matter what he does. Someone will be like, "hmmm, Lamar Thomas, oh yea, he's the one who got stripped, lol"

  • every play counts its accept or decline that decides who it works for

  • Lamar Thomas is my high school wide receiver coach I be making fun of all the time because of this.

  • What you should make fun of him also for is for that horrid U documentary and his bullshit during the FIU-Miami riot.

  • lol, what's even funnier is that lamar thomas is a high school football coach period. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • classic, g teague was the truth

  • I remember watching this game. It was the absolute best football game I have ever seen, and still is to this day.

  • and that is how Southern Men do it when it counts!! ROLL TIDE!!

  • Awesome play that I had to look up again. Thanks for posting!

God it must be awesome to live in SEC country. I live in Big Ten land, where Michigan beat Indiana 36-33 (IND outgained them by 100+ yards), then Michigan almost beat Iowa, who is supposed to be our best team. Then Indiana got beat by UVA 47-7. This is the same UVA team that lost by 2 TDs to 1-AA William and Mary!

The Big Ten will get roasted in the bowls again, while the SEC will crush everyone I'm sure!

  • I coined this 'The Greatest Play to Never Happen' as an Offsides call negated the turnover. Not that it mattered much, 34-13 against the 'Best Team in Football' was all that mattered. I laughed when the Cane Mascot got hit by a falling bullet (got to love shooting being a celebration for New Years). Looks like this year might be another Title for the Tide, Florida seems to be the only real contender until the National Title. Gotta love the SEC.

  • yeah, but it did happen......... it would have been a touchdown had it not happened. It mattered as much as if there had not been an offsides call........

  • George Teague had a solid NFL career

  • Slow EH?

  • this is by far the best individual effort i have ever see, lamar thomas and the miami team were talking about how "slow" the bama secondary was, obviously not... RTR

  • On the night before this game, Miami was cussing Alabama in the hotel lobby, using the "f" word and so forth, and Alabama's coach just told the guys to save it for the field.

They did. Ohhh, my, they did. I loved it.

Once again, the SEC proves it not only is the best conference but the best conference by a sizable margin.

By the way, folks, don't buy it when we're told that other conferences are better offensively. They just have weak opponents. They don't score 30 against SEC opponents.

  • @objectivethirdparty That was IMO the best defense of all time. But having said that they were not very revealing of the rest of the SEC in the 90's back when SEC teams got smashed verse Big 12/8 teams like Nebraska. Do I have to remind you of Florida vs Nebraska in the national championship. Nebraska scored over 60 vs a SEC defense there; or Tennesee vs Nebraska a few years later in the Orange Bowl! Times have changed indeed.

  • @ehoss07 i disagree. Alabama outscored their opponents 297–25. in 1961 to go 11-0-0 under Bear Bryant

  • @objectivethirdparty I'll admit that the SEC is easily one of the best conferences. But the Big 10 (or 11 i guess) is starting to gain a lot of talent. If all the teams in the Big 10 faced every team in the SEC then I think the SEC would only win around 70-75 of a possible 132 games.

  • probably the best play ive ever seen, save protho's ketch

  • One of the greatest plays in college football history. ESPN should have this in their classic college football moments. I have never seen a play like that before or since that game. Bama stuck it to Erickson's cocky ass that night. No one outside of the state picked Bama to win no one on ABC, ESPN, or any other network. The only backer Bama had was Keith Jackson.

  • CONSPIRACY! ...not.

I can't count how many times talking heads have overwhelming picked a heavy favorite to win, but the underdog surprised everyone.

In other news - this is certainly an all-time top 5 defensive play.

  • "bulligan"--Your initial comment sounds very gay.

  • ESPN has a bias against the South, which is a large reason why voters opted to give the undeserving Charles Woodson Peyton Manning's trophy in 1997, as ESPN had an awful lot of influence that year and still does, for that matter.

There is also, if you will look around, a simultaneous element of racism/sexism against white men, especially white men from the South. The feminist movement has inspired sexism against black men and white men and has tried to convince that gender roles don't exist.

  • omg look at that speed...

  • either thomas is slow as shit, or teague should have been an olympic sprinter.

  • lamar thomas was on "paper" the fastest in college football that year!

  • 30 point underdogs my ass, That team would have beaten the 2001 miami hurricanes, People saying they were the best team in history? the 1961 Alabama team was outscoring opponents that year ON DEFENSE 219-16 and shutout 7 teams won the championship against Arkansas 10-3 Arkansas was undefeated and had DESTROYED teams all year untill that game, Bama owns.

  • tide kicks tail, but florida got lucky

  • A simply demoralizing play for the Canes. The tide's defense was just too much that year. Speed and just flat out tenacious.

  • and I just got to say that seeing this play reminds me of how I feel about ALABAMA FOOTBALL. 11 guys on the filed giving it all they got, it damn near makes me want to cry.

  • adua78. If you have anything to do with alabama football you would know that was the 93 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT THE SUGAR BOWL, FOLLOWING THE 92 SEASON. YOU MUST BE AN AUBBIE. get ready to cry like a bitch on saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roll tide!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was the Sugar Bowl nitwit. Do better research before opening mouth.

  • lol of course it was the championship game, adua78. Alabama won the 1992 National Championship. Check your history. ROLL TIDE!!!!

  • great play by teague. but the play didn't even count.

  • In a way it did, if it wasn't done, Miami would have declined the offsides penalty seeing as how Miami would have gotten a lot of yardage or a touchdown.

  • the play didn't count. i never said that teague running him down didn't matter, because it obviously did. if not miami would have had a huge gain. i said the play didn't count. and it didn't.

  • It might not have been officially in the records, or actually counted to give Alabama possession of the ball, but what I meant is that it still mattered, offsides or not, because it let Miami know that Alabama wasn't taking any shit off of them.

  • i along with most people would agree 100% that it was symbolic and set the tone and swung momentum in the favor of alabama. im just saying that the play didn't count. it may have mattered in some sence, but it didn't actually count.

  • It was offsides, so if he didn't run him down, it would have counted. Think before we comment.

  • what??? i didn't say that it didn't matter that teague ran him down. I SAID THAT THE PLAY DIDN'T EVEN COUNT!!! which it didn't. miami took the offsides penalty. the play didn't count. THINK BEFORE WE COMMENT.

  • DOOOD UR DUMB! if he HADNT stripped the ball they WOULDNT have taken the offside penalty! BECAUSE they reception was a MUCH farther gain than the 10 yards they got off the penalty. BUT since he stripped the ball, IF they were dumbass enough to decline the penalty it WOULD have been ALABAMAS ball! SO THE DAMN PLAY DID COUNT. BITCH.

  • wow. teague's strip did matter. if he had not stripped the ball miami would have had a huge gain. what i am saying is that the play DID NOT COUNT. there was a penalty. miami accepted the penalty. the play did not count. yes, teague made one of the all time best efforts ever and it sure made a difference because if not it would have been a huge gain for miami. THE PLAY DID NOT COUNT. THAT IS A FACT. THAT IS NOT AN OPINION. THE PLAY DID NOT COUNT.

  • The penalty was on Miami, illegal formation.

  • no the penalty was on alabama offsides but they still got to keep the ball.

  • George Teague's legs were faster than Lamar Thomas's mouth. Miami talked trash all week about how they would poke holes in Bama's secondary. The LA Times told the Tide not to even bother to show up for the game. Heisman winner Gino Toretta looked drunk, he was so baffled by Alabama's D.

    Thomas, Toretta, LA Times: FAIL.

  • one important stat that matters: both teams against each other in national championship games. Miami beat Alabama in the championship game in 1990. 1-1 lifetime in the NC game.

  • im a die hard canes fan, but fuck ! you gota give it to george teague.. hell of a defensive play! see kids, this is why you never give up on a play !

  • I was 11 yrs old when I saw that play and I still remember it like it was yesterday lol

  • Seen this a million times and i still get goose bumps everytime

  • Well it was a great play.

  • I work with a miami fan, he feels your pain. ;)

  • man i live in alabama and im a miami fan and everywhere i go theres a damn painting of this crap!

  • Yeah, that's because it was one of the greatest college football plays ever. Lamar Thomas was a fast mf'er, and Teague made him look like he was wearing dress shoes.
