Not sure if I would call this classic, but its a decent two-hander. He curls his wrists in the backswing prep like Rafa. Most players will have the racquet pointing straight back, not curled around, but it works for him and it probably gives him more rotation.
Dude.....If he's the best junoir in Hawaii then everyone else must be worse than my grandmother. He sucks. NOT a good shot. That's not something I would brag to peole about that this kid with shitfuck strokes and shots is the best....that says something buddy and that thing is not "Hooray!" If i were you i'd be trying to improve tennnis in hawaii instead of having kids like this pwning. (shudder) Scary that this kid is considered a good player.
@VerdascoFan you realize he's 14 at this time. now he's 19...and probably would squash you...he was also boys #1 in 12's, 14's, 16's, and 18's... so when you want to play him...he's ready for you. He plays for a university and is going to enter some futures... and the last time we played that backhand was beastly... it was all coaching...
@hi10spro haha. whatever. My strokes are ALOT better than that shit. I do admit that i`ve only seen 1 of his shots though. So show me some more vids of him hitting and tell me his name and what school he`s playing for......is he even playing D1 ;)
@VerdascoFan <----this guyhs comment is a year old but I would like to say this guy is fucking twat and doesnt deserve an explanation as to why its pretty self explanatory

i see that u are very dedicated n passionate towards tennis, but ive got to agree with these comments. the preperation might be ok, but the way he is leaning back towards the center of the court needs to be fixed.
THAT;S GOT TO BE THE UNGLIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. YOUR SUPPOSED TO HAVE YOUR HANDLE POINTING AT THE INCOMING BALL, NOT WRAPPED AROUNF YOUR WAIST!!!!!!! lol THAT'S BAD!!! pLUS THE GRIP IS VERY EXTREME, WNAT TO SEE CLASSIC BHs LOOK AT NALBANDIAN, HEWITT, AGASSI, SAFIN, DJOKOVIC, MURRAY, TSONGA, DEL POTRO, CILIC, ALL HAVE GREAT BACKHANDS!!! THIS ONE IS NOT SOOOO GRETA HOWEVER
well that's kind of unfair, you're naming some of the greatest backhands of all time--what about Connors backhand--which was unique, Nadal's backhand which is pretty different. Roddick has a SIMILAR backhand to this one I taught him, and what do you say about the fact--HE'S #1 IN HAWAII FOR HIS AGE GROUP SINCE HE WAS 12... so it's not bad...
he's pulling his weight away from the shot. i like seeing players commit their weight through the ball by stepping over with the left foot. (right for lefties)
These commenters are right; the arm shouldn't be kept down like that.
Apart from that, I noticed two other areas needing improvement:
1. Contact point was too close. If you can't tell right away, take a look at his left arm. In the follow through, it should be straight. His is not.
2. What the hell kind of footwork is that? He ends up like a pretzel! He should be stepping forward more, and coming around with the left foot to promote rotation and aid recovery.
hi10spro contradicts himself! He has promoted a video where kids are being taught to rotate the outer foot around closer to the net ... and here he's showing a video where clearly the outer foot is placed well behind - so which is it? hi10spro hasn't got a clue what he's talking about!
stop hating. sometimes you allow different things. In this situation, we flattened out the backhand and we were moving to hitting an open stance backhand--but at this stage, he wasn't doing it well enough yet.
i wouldnt call it classic.... you should keep your racquet up rather than down before hitting it. that allows you to hit through it more. when you pause the video at 0:12 his racquet should be cocked back as you would on your forehand side and above the ball
um... UK is English...so you're American... sorry dude, I'm just playing with you, but does it really matter. and English is English...so relax go to the theatre, have some fish and chips, go to the pub...
I'd like to see you post a better video. Technique isn't huge most of the time, as long as you find something that works. The biggest thing about any stroke is how confident you are in hitting it.
And dude, I'm pretty sure that if he didn't know how to play tennis or teach it, he wouldn't have >20,000 views on this video.
Technique helps people avoid injury and helps with their power and consistency, BUT it is true people just play the game most of the time, then take a lesson to fix it.
I'm not sure what your second paragraph is saying.
hmm... technique is important, but there are many ways to hit a ball--look at the Roddick serve, the Nadal forehand and backhand. the jumping shots. it evolves...but injuries...man got to avoid injuries
he is a very big guy--people don't know or don't realize, but my friends saw him in person--he's a very large shoulder man --so he has a lot of torque.
Dude, you gotta learn how to play tennis before teaching it... Btw, normally, players transfer their weight forward, into the ball rather then backward, like on this video. That is actually a mistake, bad technique...
i have so much trouble with it...i never seem to have the right form, im always off balance, my coach says it always seems like im running through the shot and i cant seem to hit it in the center of the raquet...i gotta stop playing baseball

@macedonianBLOOD17 I am wondering how much you need to lean back to hit an effective topspin. Nadal seems to lean really hard

Big flaws in his backhand technique especially the footwork and the position of the racket at the beginning.

dont forget the most important tip: the left hand (right for lefties) does the work, and the wrist finishes it off before coming over the shoulder

just the #1 player in Hawaii, my best student, I ever had, and he plays University on a scholarship so I think the backhand works

@TheAnonymousViewer Everyone does their moves different. I defend no one. My backhand is so far from this
TooManyPBJs 1 year ago
Dude, you dont keep the racket down. it is first above your wrist,m the suddenly you go down and up.
EminentArmin 2 years ago
I prefer have it down on the backhand first
hi10spro 2 years ago
exactly right , watch nadals slow motion. You shouldnt really teach kids to hit a backhand like this
SafeInnit 2 years ago
why? it's very efficient. early prep... Nadal's backhand looks like he's going to hurt himself...oh he did...

kevin step sideways is this an openstance
gewooneerlijk 2 years ago
no, this is a closed stance. when the foot crosses over, it's closed
hi10spro 2 years ago
some teacher saying to me an openstance can give more power as
closedstance but if you if you step sideways the shoulder are turn can also give power or not.?
gewooneerlijk 2 years ago
it's the hips. if your hips are parallel to the court, you get more torque and more power. if you close your hips, you limit the rotation
hi10spro 2 years ago
i want a backhand like federer,serve
like roddick,forehand like puerta,volley like edberg,and tactic,mental like nadal
and footwork like grosjean than i am complete
