Beautiful place. Don't quite fancy your chances if the damn thing erupts though... Forty-thousand years over-due apparently. Six-hundred and forty-thousand years of pressure built up since the last eruption too.

try to visit tele, limbong n pangururran, there is the most beautifull place of toba lake, you can see all the toba lake from the height 2000 meters above sea level like in plane with stuning sight, i regulary visiting my grandmother in samosir island,, and lol geyser scatered everywhere n the air smeels funny like sulphure or etc,,from my view the best time visiting toba lake is around january-february,,, sunny n clear,,,, the worst is november, the weather very bad, fogg n rainy whole dayz

This is just further proof that while devastating, Volcanic erutions like this are good for the Earth in the long run. Look at how green it is. The most fertile soil in the world. Once the ash is no longer sterile that is. It also recharges the atmosphere. It's a natural safegaurd against ozone depletion.

Yes, according to experts estimate, Toba is due to erupt in 400 thousand years. You should be more worried about global warming, nuclear holocost, and by then, hundreds of meteors will have hit the earth. Some of them may be with the magnitude of that caused mass extinction that included the dinosaurs.

people talk about it being a supervolcano like it's about to blow any day now. talk about ignorant!! obviously it was one of the biggest eruptions ever occurring on Earth but that was millions of years ago. and as much as yellowstone bulges outward i wouldn't hold my breath for it to blow....

i visited toba and samosir island back in 1989. it was a magical place. part of a 14 month trek through Asia. took the boat from Singapore to Pekanbaru, bus to Bukitingi, to Lake Maninjau, then Toba

It is beautiful except when you have a full scale eruption here. The supervolcano that lies underneath blows away Yellowstone's supervolcano, and it was a super eruption here 75000 years ago that almost brought all of mankind to the brink of extinction due to the volcanic winter that took place for years to come, so yes it's very dangerous (for the whole world). It may have created a popultn bottleneck in Central Eastern Africa and India that affected the genetic inheritance of all humans today

my family is from lake toba and yes all is true about the super volcanoe incredibley true cannabalisim was also practiced there but don't hold it against the people of today,the Bataks of toba were fierce warriors too.

indonesians, malaysians, filipinos are look alike same as people in southernmost provinces of thailand (yala, pattani, narathiwat). but the pattern of migration began in south taiwan to the philippines to borneo to other indonesian islands to malaysia reaching southern provinces of thailand...we're all from one race malay...but since the spanish colonized the philippines we've become mixed with spanish blood, chinese, etc..i wanna visit lake toba..is it safe to travel in indonesia nowadays?

Lake Toba is my hometown. When you visit the lake, please take simarjarunjung way, the best side of the lake, where you can see the tremendous view of the lake with the Samosir Island on the centre. Everytime I visit my home town I always spend hours to it. Please try..
