my older 9303 took a crap on me a few weeks ago, I converted it to 2.4 and every thing was fine. I went to go change the model from my t-rex to my blade pro 2 and it just died. Looks like I'm going to get this 9503 now. I'm liking the new features here, like the timer and back light.
I too am interested to know if this new transmitter supports an external input for remotely operating a pan/tilt on an aircraft mounted camera?...to see how this is being applied to r/c, look up FPV or vrflyer on youtube. It looks like great fun..."almost" like sitting in the pilots seat!
Another use of external inputs could be to connect flight controls from flight simulators...allowing r/c to be controlled just like their full size cousins!
Looks like a fantastic radio. How long would you predict Horizon will it be before DSM3 or whatever you are going to call it is released? Basically, I want to know if this radio will be out dated in a few years or if you will still support those who are using DSM2. All in theory, but would a DSM3 module be released for those with older transmitters (in several years) like the X9503 so that it could be used with technology of that time? I would get it if I knew it would last.
I wish I could answer your questions but I don't know if they're working on a different/newer architecture than DSM2. However if you look at how things have gone, from DSM to DSM2 "if" there's another version I'd bet it would be backwards compatible.
Does this JR9503 allow 2-channel input from the trainer port for head tracking like the Futaba radios do? It is such a simple software/firmware coding change I believe -- no hardware modifications needed!
Need to upgrade to a 9-channel transmitter. Would rather get a JR radio because I have a lot of DSM2 receivers but it looks like Futaba is the only choice for head tracking. :(
DSM2 is the transmission method designed by Spektrum and describes their signal. JR and Spektrum have worked together and the 9503 uses Spektrum technology. There is nothing extra for you to buy, besides receivers for your different aircraft of course.
@Aabish72 All DSM2 radios are compatible, no parts needed to buy. Any Spektrum RX works with all JR TRansmitters. So with all the available sizes of RX you buy the one that works for your model from the Ultra micros to a 12channel Jet the 9503 works with every one, period! No body else has the flexibility and I guess that is why you are confused?
Instead of model-match, why not just make the radio so that you can turn on the receiver in the model first, then when you turn on the transmitter it automatically selects the correct model based on the receiver ID? That'd be even simpler and more foolproof! (Note: this post may constitute prior art)
@xjet DSM2 protocol is a lot more than just the 2.4 freq and nobody else has that, period. Next, the model memory is in the TX not the RX, so for instance if you turn on the RX first how does it know to send servos to what positions (ie flaps up, gear down)? What about two setups for the same model What if you have one RX and 5 models with different settings, this way you can move it bind it and have a perfect setup to fly each model. If the RX is searching what it if finds the wrong TX?
When you bind a rx to the tx, the unique ID of that rx is registered in the tx's model-memory so that the model (and all the settings associated with it) can be identified.
Changing models would then be as simple as turning on the rx (which then broadcasts the rx-ID and tx GUID) continuously until the tx is turned on
The tx receives the rx-ID and GUID it responds by automatically selecting the matching model-memory for that rx-ID.
What about being able to get real time data like the new Hitec Aurora technology. I would have figured everyone would go that direction. I have a DX7 and love it but if I was to upgrade that is a nice option to have. I was hoping to see something like that from you guys, maybe your working on something?
Sure .. back light is good.. But hey who is the product manager. He actually made a release missing the mark. How about improved gimbals aside from other useful features mentioned,e.g balance point hook !!. BTW: This "MR JR" on this video should really re-evaluate his opening. Jesus !!
Hi guys, it's a nice radio, yes and I am using all DSM2 technology. Still, I am disappointed that you missed the opportunity to include 2 things, I would like to see in a high end 9-channel radio:
- possibility of feed in 2 channels in the TX for a head tracker (for example via the trainer port as Futaba)
- At least one turning button to move a move thing on the plane over the whole servo range
Although I am happy with my equipment, I am seriously considering a change to Futaba
Not sure how you call it in English, sorry. It's just a knob that you turn (just like a potentiometer) or slide and get a proportional output over the full range - for example to move a camera, adjust a gyro, open/close things...
Yeh, that's what i was thinking you where saying. I'm taking it you are from france, so do you know if this will by High Power or low power 2.4ghz? As high power in the UK is banned so it might be for the rest of Europe as well?
@liambowers666 Stricktly speaking we do not offer JR radios in Europe, that is Graupner's territory and their radio is totally different. X9503 is built to the US standards. Also DSM2 protocol is a Horizon Hobby Spektrum Pattent used in the X9503. Graupner's is different to meet the Euro standards.
@liambowers666 Both the 9303 and the 9503 jave twp proportional aux channels using the levers on the side of the TX. The know is not very functional for a pilot as it requires you to remove your fingers from the sticks, the levers do not, either can be activated with your index finger.
@sahand293 Every 3-4 years JR brings a new radio so it's almost time to upgrade so if you wait they will have new radio.

It's any recall on this radio?

Hi,i wanna buy a transmitter,
Could you please help me which one is the best? JR9503 or spektrum DX8?
Thank you very much.

Nice video, Does the 9503 is a 2048 PCM or 1024 ?
If not I will stack to my DX7 SE
G7X35H 1 year ago
From page G-9 of the owner's manual, "Resolution—2048 with R921 receiver," same as the 9303. The AR7600 rx is also 2048.

Confused here. New to Jr radios.
Ok the spec says at Horizon Hobby it's DSM / DSM2 compatabile and it has DSM2 RF link. So what does that mean ?
Do i need to buy the extra DSM2 spectrum module in order to work it with the DSM2 technology or it already has in it ?
Are you guys saying that X9503 is compatabile to all spectrum receivers without any module and modification ?

Now if you could only get the JR 9503 and the DX7se alone in a room with candles, wine a little Marvin Gaye you'd have the perfect love child. XD

Here's how it (should) work(s):

Changing models would then be as simple as turning on the rx (which then broadcasts the rx-ID and tx GUID) continuously until the tx is turned on
The tx receives the rx-ID and GUID it responds by automatically selecting the matching model-memory for that rx-ID.
Easy enough?

@insanegeniuses Well after you get the 50 models in your car there isn't much room for more transmitters!! Yeah, good point for sure.
