You need an explosion inside the container for it to shrapnel, otherwise it's just going to end up a twisted mess, with no shrapnel. Try it with a plastic bottle and an air compressor to really see what I'm talking about.

Actually it's not, especially when it's a solid piece. It is possible, and very unlikely that it's going to be more than say 3 or 4 LARGE pieces without a sustainable force. More likely to be hurt worse playing with matches then pressure bombs, as pressure bomb 'accidents' are completely asinine.

A pressure bomb would consist of of something like just water in this but with the force of the propane lighting on fire the force would be much higher then just a simple bomb. Also with that close they easily could have logs and embers flying at them from just the fire alone...

Propane needs oxygen to burn, inside the container there is no oxygen; it's a pressure bomb. There is by far not enough force to throw a log, it's too slow and too spread out to do that. You're right about the fire alone, being the only threat to a fatal accident and even that isn't much too worry about.

as soon as a tiny hole in the metal is made the oxygen will rush in. Its not instantaneos so it will result in some form of explosion. Also just the hot gas pushing outwards is enough to send embers at least. Rest assured you must back me up that this still is not a smart idea from that close. Trust me i do explosives and much bigger then that but this is still not a good idea

Container bursts because of PRESSURE from the propane being heated then the propane catches fire. Oxygen CAN NOT get in a hole, because the propane is under PRESSURE. You shouldn't be doing any kind of pyrotechnics if you don't know basic physics.

That's not what you said, but going from what you're saying now it will still require oxygen to burn the propane, thus when there is a considerable amount of holes (which there won't be, again basic physics applied here) the gas will escape and burn outside the container; no if, ands, or buts. coilgunner2, what you described is usually called a "boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion". Those camping gaz tanks have propane which is a liquid when compressed in a gas tank. If the pressure is suddenly released from the container rupturing due to heat; it quickly boils into vapor and in the case of propane, catches fire and explodes.

Use the 16oz Coleman bottles if you want a very good BLEVE (Boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion) aka "Blast leveling everything very effectively"

They are usually thicker and hold more gas which makes a larger explosion.

Beleive it or not, we tried a 16oz coleman tank and the cap was made of a less than fireproof material which made it pop off. This resulted in a 2 minute long 5 foot spray of flame without explosion. It sucked, any suggestions?
