  • Wish I could hear the violin part better...this movement is the only time the violin is used, and its melody is used (sparingly) in other movements, so it is pretty important. I'm sure it's just the fault of the recording.

  • Beautiful phrasing in the treble at 1.43...soaring into those high notes!

  • Too bad about the "hiss", but a beautiful rendition of possibly one of the most perfect pieces of music ever written. Thanks for the all male choir, just doesn't work with soprano voices.

  • When i ws in a choir this was my favourite pice we did !.The silence in th Hall was amazing ,like the audience were in a trance .

  • Few mortals have so blessed mankind as much as Gabriel Faure.

  • I wasn't well today (reaction to flu shot possibly and feasted my ears without interruption on music queued on your channel. I was a chorister until age 12 (sent away to boys' grammar school) in an Anglican choir and have loved the music you love since then. Thought I'd tell you.

  • @ifuliki Thanks Aled. Do hope you're feeling better now!

  • @ifuliki I hope you don't get any more flu shots. They are not necessary and are bad for you. Check out mercola.com and do a search.

  • The 5 people that don't like this are deluded!

  • @cublhammond I don't thinkl it is noisy enough for some people.

If you listen to noise long enough you can't really hear anything else

I am told. This is sooooooooooooo beautiful.

  • The french horns totally make this piece. Wouldn't be the same without it.

  • My absolute favorite performance of this piece by any choir. I sang this as a choir boy many many years ago. One french horn is all that is needed: conductors take note.

  • i am 12 and sing this piece with my choir and it sounds great

  • So far, I believe this is the best video of this Sanctus on YouTube. Thanks for posting it.

  • @rahdezs De acuerdo. I agree,

  • This is too good

  • This piece and this choir equals paradise.

  • I have a 1968 recording of this, also performed by Kings College Choir, Cambridge. By chance I have just uploaded it. This is just beautiful.

  • Absolutely beautiful

  • Come on Tenor and Bass, "Hosanna needs a lot more punch than that! It's a double forte! Otherwise very nicely done

  • That part is so fun to sing.

  • I get a taste of heaven every time I hear this music. It is absolutely beautiful. And the vocalism on display here is stunning.

  • Faure masters the "angelic effect" with upper register voices and harp.

His Cantique de Jean Racine is wonderful as well.

  • 100 years from now people will point to THIS rendition of Faure's Requiem and will say it was the BEST.

What a blessing to listen and meditate on its PURE musicality.

  • Utter perfection.

  • musica celestiale... come si fa a non piangere?...

  • My junior college choir is doing this and it's an absolutely stunning movement of the requiem. When the horns come in and the violin plays that beautiful descant melody it sends shivers up my spine!

  • our school is doing this and whenever we get to the horn tenor/bass section it gives me goosebumps

  • hey i've seen the paperhouse too great movie and great piece of music

  • this song is in the movie "the paperhouse" and it just send shivers! very very powerful piece of music

  • hermoso.....

  • moving..

  • I love the horn entry!

  • the very first time the horns come in with that slight "hit"...my stomach drops...it makes me melt...the whole piece.

  • I agree ! The best performance I have heard...

  • the best performance i´ve heard...quiet, depp, intimate and spiritual. fauré´s sanctus is beyond words, it get´s me all the time i hear it.

  • Man, this is how it should be done. Thank you for that. Made me cry.

  • Gabriel Faure is watching this performance from his perch In Paradisum and is saying (in French) "They have it exactly as I intended it. Bravo."

Look at the size of the orchestra - and the size of the choir.

What perfection - never to be equalled by a larger contingent of musicians.

This performance is a blessing to witness...and I never can listen to it without weeping.

  • Love it!!!!!

  • I personally admire this choir for its clean sound, the seamless blend within sections, and their harmony.

Enunciation might have been affected not just by the poor recording, but also the accoustics of the hall? That said, this is an issue in some other recordings of theirs too.

Still, they are definitely outstanding in other respects.

  • I can agree to a certain extent however being in a choir and listening to advice i know when we ever sing in a cathedral we must emphasise the constonants even more, exaggerate almost. The harmony is not infact the choirs doing but Fauré himself. I admire the sound it's wonderful but feel it would sound more like a choir if you could understand what they are saying!

  • But maybe this is the reason that Kings Colledge Choir is so well respected - they are unique in that they have such beautiful voices nobody gives a monkeys what's being said! I always listen to them with my mind wandering - the harmonies Fauré set forth have been perfectly captured and it is easy to drift off with...

  • Personally i think that is a weak argument. After all i think we would prefer to hear what they are saying not just listen to notes being "hummed" if you would, in perfect harmony. In my opinion it is better to hear what the choir is singing and maybe waver on a few notes pitch wise but again thats my own opinion.

  • Heavenly!

  • I first became interested in the piece when I heard it feature in the haunting 1980's phycological horror "Paperhouse". Because of this movie I've always found this music beutifull yet disturbing, It moves me to tears..

  • wonderful

  • Yes, Kings College...the definitive Requiem.

  • Brilliant.

  • I'm being introduced to this type of music through a friend of mine. I must admit, it's not bad (although I'm usually more into Heavy metal!).

    Widening my horizon, I suppose!

  • it s the most beautiful when the violin solo is played by the concertmaster...and it sounds the most beautiful in high position.

  • I did thanks Ryan, but I've got some catching up to do watching all the various new vids. Many thanks.

  • Very nice. Did you get my vid that included St Thomas doing the the same song?

  • Very nice, thanks!

  • I have this recording. It's spectactular.
