  • Hey look, it's a perfect representation of Michelle Bachmann and her presidential aspirations.

Also, note Rick Perry in a delightful little dress.

  • the special effects guy was a bit too slow with the melting smoke

  • Trapped Door..Heehee :P

  • My Freind is a WAY better witch no offense!

  • 5 people were melting with witch going.

  • BAD JUDY GARLAND IMPRESSION!

  • She plays a damn good witch!

  • Dihydrogen Monoxide claims another victim!

  • WICKED IS AMAZING, wizard of oz is standard aha, but im audition for dorothy or the witch at school :)

  • @kieramarchant No. Wizard of Oz is classic. There's a difference.

  • I'm also a Wicked fan, and although it makes me a little sad to watch this, c'mon. It isn't Wicked, it's the Wizard of Oz.

  • I dont understand why the witch would have a bucket of water in her castle if she'll melt if it gets on her

  • Wow, this is bad.

  • I always wondered if the story had the witch melting in water because it be too unsettling to set her on fire...

  • NOOO ELPHIE POOR ELPHIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm not gonna say this is Wicked (though, I am a total fanatic!) Becuase it's not. This is meant to be the Wizard of Oz, and that's what it is. If I may just say one thing... Dorothy here, is *really* annoying. The voice is way overdone. Still, love it!

    ~~WWOW

  • Lets just say Wicked and the wizard of oz are thier own seperate stories

  • Ring around the rosie a pocket full of spears ALOL

  • Jack Haley, who played Tin Man in the movie, played more emotion than this community theater tin man.

  • Oh Lord, that Dorothy was horrible. It was like a Stephnie Weir impersonation of Judy Garland.

  • LOL well im sure this version they are trying to make it like the original film anyways

  • I do hate it when girls who play dorothy try to mimic Judy Garland. Face it, it can't be done!

  • Nice. Better than what the director did when I worked on this show

  • i was recently the wicked witch of the west and everyone cheered when i died, ahahahaha.

my broom was also 10 times the size of that one! it was actually an air cannon that shot red nerf balls that looked like fireballs at the scarecrow.

  • I used to wonder why the guards were so mean, but then praised Dorothy for killing the witch. Then I learned that the guards that served her were only mean because of the witch's evil magic hold on them. When the witch died, so did the evilness in the people and creatures that served her.

  • The other one the Oh,looks Wizard of Oz- Witch Melt is her.

  • Is that Idina?

  • Omg......Your Joking Right?

  • I quote this part whenever I quote the movie.

  • Oh man she's without a doubt one of the scariest villains ever. She terrified me as a kid!

  • Anyway...what this all means is that though they're all inspired by the original Baum book, the MGM film and subsequently, the 1990 cartoon and Maguire's Wicked are all different from the book that inspired it all. Thus, since Oz is in public domain and its creator's desendants probably allowed Maguire to use creative license, if Maguire wishes to have his book be a prequel & continuation to the MGM film, then so be it, because really, all Wicked is is another side of the all-too-famous story.

  • Also, in 1990, there was a short-lived one-season cartoon, in which Dorothy came back to Oz to help her friends save The Wizard. Oddly, the show's villain was a revived Wicked Witch, as Christery/Nikko/Truckle (whomever he's called) and remaining others revived her and she used the Wicked West Wind to blow The Wizard off-course whilst she stole Scarecrow's diplomatic brains, Tin Man's heart, and Lion's medal of courage, reverting the three back to how they were before they got those items.

  • chistery is from wicked, nikko is from the movie, where is truckle from?

  • scooterviii: The 1990 "Wizard of Oz" cartoon from DiC entertainment that aired on ABC (and eventually, ToonDisney).

  • That is a great Dorothy, she did the Judy twitches. And The Witch was very over the top (perfect for this production)

  • Patsluvs: Baum's witch was an un-named one-eyed hunchback. Wicked is based on the MGM film, which is in itself, different from its book inspiration.

egallity: The thing is...the Baum book is radically different from the MGM film that inspired Wicked. Besides, with Baum dead and Oz pretty much in public domain (since Gregory wrote Wicked using characters from the MGM version of Baum's tale), Wicked can be a prequel as long as its creators say it can be (and they do).

  • If you read Baum's book, and Wicked, you would know Gregory Maguire based Elphaba on Baum's original witch as well, including having bees and wolves go after Dorothy and her friends.

MGM doesn't think Margaret Hamilton's witch had any good intentions. When Margaret played her, she didn't play the witch as having Elphie's past. Elphaba is a re-imagining of the witch, and Wicked is an imagining of a possible past, a possible prequel.

  • You know what? When Disney did a read-along book of this tale, it was drawn ala the original Baum book and therefore, included the silver shoes, Tattypoo (the ORIGINAL Good Witch of the North), the bees, the wolf-like hounds, crows, et al. However, the songs included in the story were from the MGM film wherein the silver shoes became ruby slippers, Tattypoo and Glinda were merged, and Wicked Witch only used The Jitterbug, Winged Monkeys, and Winkie Guards, as her civil servants.

  • oh Janet,Janet ...your melting hehe the wicked witch is gone!! well not quite :D Sale Marina M/cr everyone...01/04/2009 for witch dunking bring your own rotten fruit or join queue to buy at the gateway on the wat in 6 for a pound 3 for a dollar lol..assured great entertainment

    Host:Nicky

    PS.bring a friend or two

  • Are we talking about WICKED the musical or the actual novel? Both versions are two different things all together. The novel explains how she actually became wicked, and gives oz a certain darkness, more than the musical does, but the musical says she is misunderstood.

  • Oh. My. GOD, can we please get over the "She melted Elphie!!" Thing, PLEASE!? I am probably the one of the biggest Wicked fan's, but even I cheer when she melts, does that mean I deserve to die?

  • @BrideofthePhantom she is a fictional character born from a book. relax bride

  • @BrideofthePhantom I agree. The Wicked Witch was not Elphaba back in 1939. She was always evil.

  • @BrideofthePhantom and also its not Elphie its the wicked which of the wast.

  • lol

  • people the wicked witch in baums story is evil and deserves to die and elphaba is no evil and deserves to live

  • NO THEY AREN'T. Dorothy did not just melt Elphaba in that vid...she murdered THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST. Wicked is basically a fanfic.

  • GREAT MELTING EFFECT!!

  • WICKED has nothing to do with THE WIZARD OF OZ; it's a different story using some of the same characters. The Wicked Witch in this movie and the original book is not a good person, she's totally evil and deserves to die. Clear?

  • They are ment to be the same character.

  • Yes, but WICKED is a different story using Frank Baum's characters. The things that happen in WICKED do not change the fact that in THE WIZARD OF OZ, the witch is evil and deserves to die. WICKED is like a fanfic; it doesn't change what happened in the original.

  • Thank you for speaking some sense about this matter. The witch in "Wicked" may suppose to be the witch in "Oz," but the witch in "Oz" is not supposed to be the witch in "Wicked." She's a gleeful sadist, and I for one would not want her any other way. Long Live Margaret Hamilton!

  • No problem! I love both versions, but people have to remember that Wizard of Oz came first. I'm playing the witch in my stage school's production in Feb, and I'm having so much fun making her as evil as possible!

  • "Elphaba" is merely fanfic that got published, and later made into a good musical.

  • i wonder what elphie was thinking when dorothy killed her. it was probably something like, "when i get his straw-filled ass home i'm gonna kill him for romping around with that little slut!"

    i know that's what i would've said. ;D

  • dorothy you bitch how dare you kill elphaba

  • i hate dorothy!! she killed elphie!!

  • Oh, Yero, you misunderstood! she didn't actually mean to set you on fire. She just wanted a bit of fan-pleasing Fiyeraba!

  • i saw a childrens version of this, remember

A CHILDRENS VERSION, anyways the witches makeup caught on fire when the flashpot exploded... it was scary

  • Best melt i ever seen besides wicked!

  • AmuseMe: Look up "Wizard of Oz (1990)". It was produced by ABC. 'Tis just too bad that, in the cartoon, Elphie STILL is batty and wanting to stop Dorothy--who comes back--from doing good (in this case, saving the Wizard from the 'wicked' sense of justice Elphaba has).

    Here's the opening: youtube. com/watch?v=WgqGa5yOGQY

  • hey look it is hillary without the CNN whitewash

  • lol

  • I'm the witch in the play that we're doing. I saw the costume yesterday and it's like, sexy. It's cut so low. I'm gonna have to wear green make-up down even further than usual. It does look Witchy though.

  • Having been a Munchkin for our school's rendition of this (not by choice. All beginning theater students were Munchkins) I have a new appreciation for "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead". It STILL pops in my head randomly, we practiced it so much! But I think I liked our Wicked Witch better. She sounded more...pained when she was melting.

  • What are you talking about!? Wizard of Oz gets better every time I see it.

  • the dorothy is NOT the best actress!

  • ik LOL weird accent

  • the dorothy is NOT the best actress!

  • was this Idina?

  • I cant tell if you are joking, but if your not...NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! first of all this was in 1990 and its not even Wicked its the wizard of oz!!!!!!!!

  • i hate it when they use the same script from the movie!

  • that was a bit grim, nice tin man costume though !

  • what a sick audience!!! If i was there i would march upon that stage and say "HOW COULD YOU PEOPLE B SO CRUEL! WHY WOULD YOU CHEER WHEN A GOOD PERSON IS DYING! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!" or er she actually went through a trap door, BUT STILL!

  • They are clapping because the actress did a wonderful job.

  • well, they didnt know she was good then!! if it was this year, you could do that, but everyone would think you were wierd in 1990.

  • the story of The Wizard of Oz is all wrong!! Elphie is actually a good person...

    =/

  • i TOTALY agree!

  • Elphie is, but the Wicked Witch of the West isn't.

Remember, this is a different story, as it was originally written.

  • true...

  • I also agree with Elphie is a good person and this a different story, but I am grateful for Wicked's inside of there are 2 stories to everything. Wicked is a wonderful musical, as well as the Wizard of Oz and both are classics.

  • Can we just all agree that Wicked and Wizard of Oz merge into one continuing story??

  • Wicked and the Wizard of Oz are NOT the same story. Wicked isn't actually what happened.

  • Well, you don't know as much as I do what really happend with Oz.

  • Nobody knows what really happened with Oz.

  • your right! i hate it when people watch wizard of oz and call her elphaba. just etc

  • But here she hurts fiyero and i dont think that she would do that because he loves him... that is the greatest difference between musical an this film...

  • ohhhh yeah...

  • The melting looked terrible

  • i also hate how she just drops the broom like that. looks too planned out.

  • i know, confusing.

  • my thoughts exactly...

  • the Wicked Witch of the West isn't actually wicked, Glinda wanted to tell everyone that Elphaba wasn't a bad parson, but Elphaba knew that everyone would turn against her and kill Glinda but Elphaba told Glinda not to tell anyone that bacuase then Glinda would die, so instead, Elphaba wanted Glinda to live and she would die.

  • coolcat: But she LIVES! The 90's toon, the musical version of Wicked, and her fanbase keeps her around (plus, as I said, like any "good villain" [double double meaning], Elphie will ALWAYS find a way to return).

  • I know but i feel sad because Glinda never knew that Elphaba lived

  • coolcat: Meh...Glinda was two faced, anyway. :D

  • Acctuly Elphaba didnt die she went in to hideing with fiyero underground

  • This is where I disagree and stay true to the book and MGM film, because it seems to flow better that Elphie was killed and then--through magic--was revived. The 90's 'toon proved her resurrection possible, years before "Wicked".

  • interesting!!!

  • what is the 90's toon?

  • Elphaba died not only in the the Wizard of Oz, but also in Wicked by Gregory Macguire. I have no idea why the producers of the musical decided to make Elphaba come back out.

  • thanks alot for the ending of wicked jerk

  • hah.

idk who you are but you are hilarious...

  • Thankfully (despite claims otherwise), Wicked CAN--IMO--still be a prequel (and continuation) of the film despite inconsistancies, because Elphie went insane anyway (in both the book and musical [not so much in the latter, though])...so some of her stuff may've been made up (for example, I would like to think that Elphie DID die, but like all GOOD VILLIANS can NOT truly be killed, hence her revival...just like the 90's cartoon that was also based on the MGM classic).

  • grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i hate everyone who cheers as she fell! I WILL TAKE OVER FOR ELPHABA AND RULE OVER ALL OF OZ DURING HER INDEFINITE LEAF OF ABBSCENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ONLY IF YOU HAVE SEEN WICKED: Just think.. Right before this happened Elphaba and Glinda were singing "For Good" and saying their final goodbyes.

  • yeah, but i hated it when people applauded as she went down! >[

  • In this video?

Yeah me too. I was like- Why are you cheering?!?! Lol

  • yeah... Elphaba isn't that wicked!

  • i know....i think of it that way but its funny....so the scarecrow is kind of acting right.

  • im going to try out for mrs.glutch in the wizard of oz auditions @ school

  • is this wizard of oz or wicked

  • Wizard of Oz

  • 1990 are you sure?

  • I am completely and utterly sure... why?

  • I mean 17...

  • Ten years ago? Good special effects.....

  • Did Dorothy swallow some helium...or grow up in a school for clowns?

  • She's playing it like Judy Garland..and a very good likeness..

  • I don't think that's really all too feasible. I'll upload some more clips (highlight songs and such) if I get time, but the whole thing would be a lot of work my computer cannot handle right now.

  • The witch was terrible!

  • I invite you to check out the other video I have up of her in Munchkinland. I think you might change your mind. You have to understand, this was a guest dress rehearsal, and the timing was not properly worked out with the water, dialogue, and the people running the trapdoor. They moved to fast, so she had to breeze through the lines before she disappeared.

  • THANX for uploading this i wish i was there,

ummm did they use the movie recording for the witch cause she sounds just like her its amazing!

  • who were u in this again?

  • oops nm...i suck...i didnt see the date hehe!

  • I wasn't in it, but my sister was.

  • ahhh cool. was she Dorothy?

  • Can't have a 6 year old Dorothy, hehe.

  • ooo oops lol. what did she play?

  • She was a munchkin.... A Sleepy Head...

"Wake up, you Sleepy Heads, rub your eyes, get out of bed, wake up the Wicked Witch is dead!"
