Now this song should've been featured in the 1997 film with Gordon Lightfoot singing it (since Mr. Chapin died in 1983) instead of Celine Dion's "My heart will go on".
harry was a wonderful man he was always wanting to help people he was going to come to my dads work and play for the children but his flight was canceled and he called my dad personally to apologize and sent someone else and promised to come another time but he passed away a few months later my dad just passed away and in lieu of flowers we asked people to donate to long island cares harry chapin food bank
Well, Harry, our government functions like the dance band on the titanic. This song has been my fav Chapin tune since I first heard it years ago. Paid a buck to some charity to get a kiss from Harry. Yup, I remember it after all these years. A big wet sloppy one right after the concert. A wonderfully talented artist. He is missed.
Still one of my all time favs from Harry Chapin. Wish we could hear it on the radio once in awhile. Actually, it's awesome. Very, very socially relevent today.
I am AMAZED the bloody Grateful Dead never covered this song...I love Harry and loathe the dead...but there is just such a great groove running thu this tune . Also, I'm surpirised that a lot more blues bands haven't cottonned on to the idea..
I love the song Dance Band on the Titanic! Would love to see the album version posted. Seems so relevent in a metaphoric way; the climate of America today.
