  • what rap song was earlier than this?

  • She's hot. The song was a big hit back in the day. We all got older together, a lot older.

  • Haha...she got the moves like Jagger. Debbie Harry--->>>coolest female ever...

  • Fab 5 Freddy still eatin off this too.

  • so the man from mars is on a cars diet?

  • @vaadaenmacchi yea, shit is rough lately on Mars also.

  • Thirty~Two years ago. Can you dig it? Very Cool!

  • Thirty~Two years ago. Can you dig it? Very Cool.

  • She definitely looks cute in shorts.

  • Wow, wish a girl who looks just like Debbie Harry could walk right into my college at lunch. She's absolutely stunning

  • I like how when Chris starts following Debby he looks down at her legs, then looks up at the camera as if to say, "Yeah I'm doing that- Don't you wish you were me?" Yes Chris, for a long time I did; usually though I just took matters into my own hands.

  • Blondie,cool video,they look like cool mutherfuckers.New yorkers,totally hip.

  • Face to face, silent solitude

    And it's fin-ger fu-cking, 24 hours shared in rapture.

  • I like the church bells. Nice touch.

  • Blondie has a standing record to having the first rap song on MTV and also the first rap song to hit the top ten and that was all with song Rapture. Before Blondie there were the greats such as Grandmaster Flash, The Fatback Band The Sugarhill Gang and Fab Five Freddy. WOW, going down memory lane.

  • I sure would like to Lick her..

  • Still sexy debs!

  • In the begining when she says "Rapture" her face stirs me up!!! Damn!

  • amo a esta mujer

  • This is the beging of Rap, this is where rap began. I give it to Blondie, she is the Queen of rap!!!!

  • @MyMarquez15 I love Blondie. She didn't start Rap. She wasn't even the first female to rap. Not even the first white rapper. Just look up rap from 1979 on YouTube. Maybe it was the first rapping in mainstream. That's about it. That said, it's an incredible song.

  • Daborah Harry was outrageously hot back then.

  • You people DO realize this is a DISCO SONG?!!! Blondie simply took disco to another level. Blondie started out as a Punk Rock outfit, zigged into New Wave while reclaiming Disco. You can see what Blondie did; they dumped the syruppy strings of 1976 Disco for DISCO with EDGE in late 70's-early 80's. Someone correct me, but I believe Rapture was the first mainstream rock song with RAP inserted in the middle 8. Rapture was the FIRST RAP SONG to blow up nationally! She's da Godmother of Rap?

  • @Armydicked I was just about to say the same - it was indeed the start of rap!!!!..........SO!!! SHE is the guilty one!!!.

  • Punk, rap, rock, big-screen musical and film noir all in one... NICE!

  • I always thought the guy at 1:25 was David Bowie.

  • I must have watched and listened to this song a million times

  • Reguardless when it was released, it`s a very cool old school song, and this may be the only truely well done rap song, if there is such a thing

  • I had this 45 as an 8 year old. She mentions Fab 5 Freddy in the song and the DJ is John Michelle Basquiat playing records trip. Before he got crazy famous.

  • Rapture and Walk This Way were the two best songs of the 80's which made rap music more mainstream. Autoamerican still lives on vinyl in my record collection :) woot

  • this is the funk

  • really?! a billygoat? really?!

  • Debbie Harry is hardly there, but it works! busy music, reserved expression. the first line is a "jazz blues" style heard in the USA in the 1950s, like gypsies and muezzins (mosque tower announcers). very successful for a plain girl with a good voice. "rapture" means extasy, euphoria, but the word was used to hide the idea of rape, so they would not report it. many people have been robbed, raped, abducted, arrested, and killed in or near loud dark flashy clubs. - james mcashan for the US Senate

  • 80's Heavy Hitter.

  • GREAT SONG!!!

  • WOW IS THAT JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT IN THE VIDEO AT 2:10!!!!!!!!!!! WOW REALLY COOL

  • Man she was pretty

  • this is the 1st rap song ever

  • @arborough Prove it. Please.

  • @arborough It's been call that but who cares if it's true.

  • @arborough said "this is the 1st rap song ever".

No. Maybe the first to be a big radio hit, but "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill gang was very big in clubs the year before. There is a lot of dispute over whether or that was the first " rap" song.

  • @izzonj Rapper's Delight was the 1st rap song but Rapture brought rap music out more in2 the main stream. Sheeesh, I was in 5th grade when I 1st heard Rapper's Delight....

  • unreal--what a gorgeous chick she was

  • PRICELESS...

  • She looks so good here, I honestly think it would burn to touch her, and to dance back to back would be pure fire.

  • for the first original rap in a pop song....Thumbs up Debbie Harry!

  • Looks like she recorded the whole thing in just a couple takes! Definitely a timeless video

  • Why is the black guy in the white suit jumping awkwardly all the time?:P lol

But the song is really awesome!:)

  • I was really lost in the 80's (and late 70's), blondie's trippy music got me through. that, and my other favorite artist, the Pretenders. God, two of my favorite groups.

  • @2:09 - 2:19 Jean Michel Basquiat

  • lol im going to dress in that white suit in the begining and dance down the street lol its gonna be a blast :)

  • Blondie! The bad girl! No shame in her game! lol

  • Awesome song !!

  • Is that Flava Flav back in the day????

  • @yurin8er Yep.

  • @yurin8er Fab Five Freddy.

  • Barrack Obama was earning some exra cash in the early 80s appearing in Blondie videos. Check out the dude in the white suit...it's Obama!

  • @SportsExpertMJL It's actually a myth that all black people look alike. That guy looks nothing like Obama. Look again. Plus, Obama can't dance. At all.

WTF was up with the goat?

  • @SheikhTaqiyyameister

lots going on in this vid. always wondered about the goat, read the best comment on a message board, said: "i don't even want to know". but if it references the "Biblical Rapture", could be the separating of the sheep from the goats metaphor on humanity in Mathew 25:32. wonder if the goat got scale pay :).

  • @SheikhTaqiyyameister it's not a myth, just racism...

  • i can't see the authenticity of indoor graff, or uncle sam and a chief hanging out.

  • I want her outfit soo badly!

  • I THINK SHES GREAT RAPING AND THE DANCING IS DIFFERENT. AT LEAST THATS WHAT I THINK.

  • Came home on leave, hadn't seen MTV yet. I saw this video and was blown away! No more ugly rock stars then came the hair bands.

  • This really has to be THE song of the 80's.

  • @neildude58 Yeah, and I still remember it as though it was yesterday.

  • @neildude58 Sorry man this song was released in 1979 from their "Eat to the beat" album.

  • @kzbxvz said "Sorry man this song was released in 1979 from their "Eat to the beat" album."

    No, it was AutoAmerica, 1980.

  • @neildude58 agreed..I was there at the time it was released..I was a stud..happy memories bro.

  • @neildude58 Sorry, when you have duran duran, depeche mode and new order, it really is hard to say this is the best. don't get me wrong, i absolutely love this song and i think the funk guitar really inspired the notorious album of DD but this is by no means the best 80s song

  • Blondie is badazzz... much props for contributing to hip hop history. I remember this song from back in the day...

  • @jseph1234567890 a punk rocker rapping...What a concept!! But she was way beyond Punk by then...

  • and you don't stop..DO PUNK ROCK.. :P

  • Truly an awesome song. I remember singing this when I was a little kid like maybe 6 years old :3

  • First rap video to air on MTV

  • @MsAriesLuvsMJ Rap goes mainstream here with a girl no less.

  • A sex symbol in her day .

  • jean michel basquiat is the guy spinning records.... if i may sound like pop up video..

  • she kinda reminds me of gwen stefani

  • @thrashdouche21 but she is sexxxy errrr!! And can rap, too..lol..kinda :D

  • @thrashdouche21 Me too

  • what is up with the goat walking by?

  • @lovepeacepoetry The goat is symbolic of something. Read the Bible to find out more.

  • I had those glasses back in the day O.o

  • like Ive been telling everyone for years, BLONDIE CREATED RAP and eminem is not the only white rapper, he didnt' even know that his Blondie created it

  • @thenode43 blondie didn't create rap... but they were one of the first mainstream/white artists to embrace it, similar to The Clash. groundbreaking.

  • i loved blondie , when i was a young woman ...a great band !! ~

  • @heapbigtalk

    I still do....:)

  • Bloody gorgeous.

  • That was every young mans dream back in the day. What a beautiful woman

  • While the video quality is better, the audio seems off a bit.

  • Nothing has been invented since this.

  • It was the first time I had heard " RAP ' style in a song

  • Amen that was the shyt I was 15 at the time

  • Excellent video. Makes me really miss that era. Wonder how much input the band had on the video direction? Clem with a beard.

  • es rap

  • I love Blondie....and I love the song....but this video is just strange! :)

  • Awesome song!!!

  • One of the classic pop songs of all time. When I was in high school I used to play this so loud that my entire street could hear it.

  • I wonder how she felt to know that every human being on the planet who has seen her (or heard her) wanted to make sex with her.

  • With her longtime boyfriend & band member/founder Chris Stein at 1:46-1:50. they were a cute couple

  • I remember when this first came on the radio before MTV;...it was like WHAT???

    "What she say? Crazy song".

"Starts out tame and pretty;..... then gets crazy....."

"I gotta learn what she is sayin........."

(About the time i voted for Reagan & Iran hostages were released))

  • One of the best videos,I bet many guys had hot fantasies about Debbie.I much rather fantasized about her.But Kim Kardashian?Hell no.Debbie is much hotter and sexier looking than Kim.

  • @Isotec1 Blonder, as well. And smarter. Try to get Kim to memorize that. No, your brain does not reside in your ass, despite what the younger generation believes.

  • Legend! Icon!

  • The white woman who introduced rap music for the first time to the white Top 40 audience. I remember hearing it at 11 and thinking, "Wow. What is THAT? What is she doing?!"

  • Fuck Yeah!! First rap song!!

  • Hot, hot, hot!

  • So much cooler than the music of today!!!

  • first rap song ever keep that in mind no it wasnt that black group that rapped it was Blondie

  • @debzeppeliniv wrong, it's a cover of a fab five freddy's song

  • @debzeppeliniv it was the first rap song to go mainstream. Debra Harry was a huge fan of the underground rap scene in New York, which is why she gives props to Fab Five Freddy in the song,

  • Is the tall black lady at 3:54 Grace Jones?

  • i didnt likk the end wen she izz realy trying to rap

  • This song is the shit

  • Lady Gaga wishes and prays she was this sexy, and talented.

  • @menarddr Gaga will never be like this

  • @menarddr But she's glad that's she's richer. Once upon a time, making out with women did NOT have a monetary reward.

  • @menarddr lady gaga wins

  • @menarddr What does Lady GaGa have to do with this video?

  • still loving it... 44yrs.lol

  • The guy in the white tux and top hat is named William Barnes.Debbie was an adopted child. She is currently 66 years old and never had kids.

  • @Isotec1 .....trust me, she caused at least one of mine..

  • Sound quality of this video is not the best. In fact, it is the worst of all I can download.

  • Even if you weren't into the club scene in Ny in those days this song woudl get you dancing and your head bobbin while drivin you car. And I'm still eatin Guitars I 'm super star! That what you are the man from mars,

  • CLASIC u know shes still making videos right now And shes younger.

  • imaging how many guys are drooling in watching Debbie, and she still looks fantastic today.

  • love this version of the track

  • funk guitar in the background is awesome. the bassline is perfect. blondie's voice is putting me in a spell!

  • was she technically the first anybody to rap? or did she borrow? don't blast me please i was around back then but i don't know this...lol, ty...GB

  • She is IT!!! Way ahead of her time and GORGEOUS!

  • THE DJ WAS JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT !!!

  • @7thvenom Thanks !

  • Comment removed

  • @7thvenom Thanks for the comeback, he died so young he was a good Artist, his paintings sell for millions now. Stay away from smack kids !

  • @7thvenom RIP JMB

  • Is that Jean Michel Basquiat spinning albums @ 2: 08 - 2 :20 or so ?

  • back when she was the hot ex bunny

  • when Debbie slides that shawl off her shoulders, I go "almost comotose".

  • SAMO LIVES!

  • totaly epic........love it

  • Deborah Harry AKA Blondie was part of the punk movement but managed to keep her carrer going by crossing genres. She wasn't new wave.

  • Blondie's website is blondie.net.

  • @HCIKFS1

    thnx, ur right of course.

  • On the multi-artist LP, Radioactive that came out around 1981, the version of this song has a longer guitar solo near the end. It's disappointing every time i hear this version where it's edited.

  • lay it down girl.

  • ty for opening all blessing i took for granted and paths i cant do at times i open mind flow all over all in one i nn worrie or bad for other in me as i explode bad far away they shield light powerfull or fix them for good unknowingly may us unite grow huge may the evil turn pure and explode to the only negative let us grow and throw any evil away we must unite love our self and heal as then we can grow and toss evil money away and indugles

  • So... was that lyrical breakdown i the middle an 80's version of tripping/stoned song lyrics?

  • Totally Epic!!

  • Deborah Harry and Joan Jett are the only female vocalists from that era that I liked.

  • I am no religious authority, but I think there is one thing we can all agree upon regarding the Rapture, and that is that Blondie rocks...can I get a witness.

  • ya

  • @jooonbloom Witness

  • Note at 2:11 that this is one of, if not the first, rap verse in a video.

  • @tideway this is considered the first mainstream commercial rap song and the great great ancestor to Pants On The Ground
