I just realize that actually I find Neill Young better then Bob dylan. Although I really like Bob Dylan and I always go to his concerts if he is in amsterdam and I really respect him as a musician. I think that Neill Youngs lyrics are just as good and he sings with the same emotion. His songs have a deeper meaning I think where Dylan stays on the surface. Needless to say Neil Young's guitarskills are only passed by a select group and I love admiring his melodies and the riffs.

I think what many people fail to recognize about Neil Young, Bob Dylan and similar artists of that period IS the period in which they were writing. Boomers or younger who had been raised in Post WWII prosperity and were now faced with Viet Nam, race riots, etc. The space rate was creating the potential for "outside this world" realities. The artists sought the "I thou" relationship between the divine and humans, trying to explain the inequalities of life. The music was deeper than surface.

Basically, this song is very open to interpretation due to Neil being high as fuck when he wrote it. I'm not sure he even knows what it means. Absolutely stunning, nonetheless. A classic.
"The gold rush" is I believe a metaphor for the ideals from the 60's, not? This is the melancholia of the 70's...."After the gold rush".... the feeling that those high ideals had not been accomplished, that the popular uprising among the youth had failed...
To me Neil young is as great a music artist can become. This and the third track on this record (Only Love Can Break Your Heart) are as emotional songs can evolve before turning pathetic. I think he is fucken great at just leaving you speachless with the simple arrangement of guitar, piano and some stunning lyrics. My respect.

I just realize that actually I find Neill Young better then Bob dylan. Although I really like Bob Dylan and I always go to his concerts if he is in amsterdam and I really respect him as a musician. I think that Neill Youngs lyrics are just as good and he sings with the same emotion. His songs have a deeper meaning I think where Dylan stays on the surface. Needless to say Neil Young's guitarskills are only passed by a select group and I love admiring his melodies and the riffs.

I think what many people fail to recognize about Neil Young, Bob Dylan and similar artists of that period IS the period in which they were writing. Boomers or younger who had been raised in Post WWII prosperity and were now faced with Viet Nam, race riots, etc. The space rate was creating the potential for "outside this world" realities. The artists sought the "I thou" relationship between the divine and humans, trying to explain the inequalities of life. The music was deeper than surface.

Basically, this song is very open to interpretation due to Neil being high as fuck when he wrote it. I'm not sure he even knows what it means. Absolutely stunning, nonetheless. A classic.

To me Neil young is as great a music artist can become. This and the third track on this record (Only Love Can Break Your Heart) are as emotional songs can evolve before turning pathetic. I think he is fucken great at just leaving you speachless with the simple arrangement of guitar, piano and some stunning lyrics. My respect.
