not sure if you are the real ms shocked but if you are any chance you could upload your performance on whistle test of "love is a train" ? I bought the album and its bluesy and I was shocked( no pun intended) to find that I loved it but the acoustic version you played on whistle was amazing.

Show the world and upload it please, you know you want to, dont make me dig out my old video tapes and player from the loft, its dark and scary up there and its full of spiders and asbestos

ONe must differentiate the "person" from the "persona." Michelle Shocked could be singing to the phonebook as lyrics, I would still love her. We love her. She is a genuine person with a great voice and sensitivity.

I really don't understand your disappointment mere. I've always interpreted Shocked's music as that of a deeply spiritual person. I do have the presence of mind to realize that she did record some very anti religion songs, probably coming to grips with surviving a Mormon upbringing, but there is a world of difference between being anti religion and being anti God.

This lady is great! ...i go to this same church and i see her evey sunday!.. and I never knew she was a folk singer until i typed the churches name in Youtube search window, and there she was... it is not easy for a white folk snger to sing with hardcore Gospel chior. takes some real chops or anointing

and as to your comment of Sam K, Sam was my buddy and as you may know, he was raised in the church too, and was a REV. and a great singer!. he was and is one of my favorites of all time ... it is not my place to Judge my friends or any man, i will never hate a man for his issues with God

i'll tell you sometimes during his comedy shows it was very uncomfortable for me to Listen to some of the God Jokes...I personaly don't play with God in that way.. it is not Wise, ...it was my Prayer that Sam could find peace with God, and take that stuff out or turn it around , he as so real he will be missed.

as for music in the 90's, i missed all of the 90's in the United States , i traveled to Latin America in 1991- 2004 and listened to only Spanish Music for over 10 years!, talking about "out of the loop" i knew very few of the hot 90's folk.

I just read she left a long, alcoholic, abusive mariage and has a new (male) partner. Obvously, it's been to long. Last I saw her was on Leterman saying she could never live in the US because of its politics, and then I read an Advocate article about her sexuality (which makes no difference to me anyway.) It was the religious component that-unintended pun-shocked me.

I have such fond memories of her music and of her rebellion, this is a real disappointment...she used to be one of my heroines.
