Did you just duplicate your monitor on the Cintiq, or is the picture on your other monitor in the background another view? One feature Photoshop is missing is bringing up another view window, so I can work in detail while being zoomed in, and see the whole thing in the other window zoomed out.
@XtremeCJYoYoFreak Photoshop has had that feature for a long time. Go to Window > Arrange > New Window for (document name). I always have a zoomed in version I work on and a zoomed out version on my main monitor so I can see how it looks overall.

Also, is it worth all the money? The reason I am getting a cintiq (along with other reasons) is because I love the fact that you can draw on screen, because I find that drawing on screen is so much easier than looking at the screen and moving your hand on a seperate tablet.

I hate my 12wx had it for 3 years now aswell. And I cannot get the color working correctly.. when I go back and forth between my main monitor, what once were blues appear greenish and theres not much depth in the blacks. It's definitely faster to draw/sketch on though I end up returning to my intuos to finish the painting.

@catha86 I've had my Cintiq for over 3 years now and never had to purchase new nibs. That said, I'm on my last one right now, and it's getting pretty worn. Even so, nibs really aren't that expensive.

I ordered the Cintiq 21ux back in December along with a Smudgeguard from amazon and it still hasnt been dispatched. Watching this video though i realise i could have had it all sooner if i'd just got the 12 instead and it wouldve done much the same job and taken up alot less damn desk space.

@elDreDas The screen is straight up plastic, so any difference in feeling you get is from the type of nib you put in the stylus, of which there are a number of options.

@Maikkeru You've got to try and train your eye to see the subtleties in color difference. The best way to do this is not by looking at reference on your monitor, but by observing things around you, and trying to replicate it on screen.
Another good trick, using photo reference, is to color pick areas you're unsure of, and then see where in the spectrum it falls. It'll help you understand the subtleties better.
Also, ALT is your friend. Color pick and blend constantly from your canvas.
@Maikkeru Look for an academic book for art history and art appreciation. That should help you find a foothold so you understand color, line, balance, etc(Principles & elements of art.) They aren't too spendy if you find an obsolete book at a college bookstore. used, pdf etc, its worth it though.
Playing is probably the best... you have the net... Google Rembrandt, All the teenage mutant ninja Grandmaster artisans...
@TheRedGynger It's likely it has nothing to do with the tablet, but your computer hardware instead. The difference with having a screen you're drawing on is that it's much more obvious when the cursor is lagging a little behind than if you're using a regular tablet. My advice is try to upgrade your computer, and you won't have as much of an issue.
Also remember, the larger the brush, the more resource heavy it is. In other words, larger brushes = lag.

I was really confused about what a tablet was, what kinds of options it had and the cool things you could do with it. I really want a tablet now, and I'm hoping to save up some extra money for one. I think that although the $1000 , $2500 price tag might seem discouraging to some, and the fact the maybe more than 1.5 years is what it's going to take me to get used to it, but I can't wait to start my art!
Just got my 12WX last week and still getting use to it but loving it so far, it's so flexible. Your image looks awesome man, I also work with as many layers as it takes. It's the only way to really get what you want. I also agree with you at the end, it's best to work on something else if you get burned out.

@okedopek Theres endless amounts of material out there for you to learn from. Tons of training videos and stuff at Gnomon workshop as an example. If you want to learn how to draw, just start drawing :) Schools are all well and good but they're not really needed.

Maybe get this and if I'm not fully happy with it, sell it and try to scrape together enough to get the 21.. This does seem more manageable size wize though. the 21 is HUGE.

Speaking of the Cintiq, i'm glad I got the 12WX, its more comfortable for me, I thought the screen space would be substantially small, but its bigger than netbook screens. I got mine for less than half the price. If you want a bigger drawing tablet for less (and you don't mind a brand other than Wacom, there is the P-Active). Better yet, there is also the DIY Cintiq.

@ArtWolfTK his is the 12 inch cintiq.
I would recommend to also purchase a smudgeguard 2 from the website as your drawing hand will be sweating as you glide across it.
Also recommended is a microfiber cloth from any computer or electronics store and damply wet the cloth and clean the cintiq screen and let it dry.
I own the 12WX but am waiting 2 yrs to get the 21UX 2nd Gen

Thanks Rahll, very informative, and their is nothing wrong with your voice. I get the same thing when I mix sleep deprevation with caffine. Although, I am sure that their will be people out there who watch video's on you tube who are small minded enough to focus on the trivial and completely miss the knowledge they could have learned. I was really confused about what a tablet was, what kinds of options it had and the cool things you could do with it. I really want a tablet now, and I'm hoping to save up some extra money for one. I think that although the $1000 , $2500 price tag might seem discouraging to some, and the fact the maybe more than 1.5 years is what it's going to take me to get used to it, but I can't wait to start my art!

Just got my 12WX last week and still getting use to it but loving it so far, it's so flexible. Your image looks awesome man, I also work with as many layers as it takes. It's the only way to really get what you want. I also agree with you at the end, it's best to work on something else if you get burned out.

@okedopek Theres endless amounts of material out there for you to learn from. Tons of training videos and stuff at Gnomon workshop as an example. If you want to learn how to draw, just start drawing :) Schools are all well and good but they're not really needed.

Nice work DeviantRahll. I was going to buy the new Cintiq 21UX, but I'm not exactly made of money.. so I'm now considering this one.. Maybe get this and if I'm not fully happy with it, sell it and try to scrape together enough to get the 21.. This does seem more manageable size wize though. the 21 is HUGE.

Speaking of the Cintiq, i'm glad I got the 12WX, its more comfortable for me, I thought the screen space would be substantially small, but its bigger than netbook screens. I got mine for less than half the price. If you want a bigger drawing tablet for less (and you don't mind a brand other than Wacom, there is the P-Active). Better yet, there is also the DIY Cintiq.
