This man did it all, bowling baseball, & golf. I current bowl at Earl Anthony Dublin lanes in Cali. If he would have started bowling PBA at a younger age he might of won over 50 PBA titles.
Has Earl ever explained why he was a proponent of having a bent elbow in the backswing? Since this was a fundamentals video he seems to be bending it less than when he was bowling on TV .
EVERY BOWLER regardless of age, experience, or ability needs to watch this video its earl anthony. yes, today's game is wide open with modern equipment and coverstocks... but good, solid, fundamentals and techiniques will win 9 times out of 10.
hey man i watched this video when i got more serious bowling. i still watch this video to help my game be more better. but for me, I approach from the very beginning of the lane. I get more power and accuracy. Plus I bowl without using my thumb. the reason for that is for a more secure grip and accuracy. some call it cheating, i call it being comfortable throwing it that way, butt yea this video dude is the best to use to brush up.
..no thumb does not give you more accuracy..I think what you mean by accuracy is from house shots. House shots tend to be more forgiving on missing your spot. Get on a PBA shot lane and that will change.
But it is whatever works for you..whether it's using your thumb or grandma rolling the ball. Whatever drops 10 pins.
i usually start at the beginning of the lane with the 4 step approach. i feel more comfortable that way not only getting good power behind it, but also to get good accuracy. i use the "peek a boo" style that ray bluth used. but neway, this video has helped me out alot.
i hate using the 3 step approach, not enough time to relax. personally the 4 step is recommended for anyone who wants power and accuracy at its maximum.
If somebody has that footage I'd like to see it. I bet he probably wished that he has a televised 300 game on American soil. But, a TV 300 is a TV 300.
To me the greatest PBA bowler in history. He did everything with less games, more field, and tougher conditions...not to mention different bowling ball eras....and scary that he started bowling at 21 years of age after his friends from the grocery chain invited him to go bowling (he was a great baseball pitcher too). WRW is good but is winning in the era where you only have 50-60 entries in most tournaments not 160 like back in the 70s and 80s. He is good though, nothing to take away.
He makes it look so easy.

i usually start at the end of the ball rack. for some reason i am more comfortable starting from there instead of the recommended position.

i personally go off of the back of the approach and vary my approach to allow my ball to do exactly what i want it to do

It's just too bad that he never had a televised perfect 300 game.

He did have a perfect game on TV in Japan. He referred to it in when he and Mike Durbin were commenting on C.K. Moores' televised 300 game.
