@Celticwomanfanpiano. Only just though. I read in a biography that the charming man Harry Cohn said
"get rid of the fat one" when she was filming with Judy Garland. Since they were both chubby in their teens H. Cohn's assistant did not know which one he meant,so Deanna went. Why couldn't they have both?
she was insanly popular here - they had a "Deanna Durbin Festival" in London in the 40s and it sold out every single showing! Again the time machine would b great - i would have loved to gone 2 that!
It's the vocal production. She studied with De Segurola who was from the Golden Age of Singing. Today's voice teachers (?) haven't the vaguest idea of what singing is all about
I love the words to von Weber's "Invitation to the Dance" that Deanna Durbin puts to this great waltz tune. Notice her low notes as well as her high notes. She can get right on top of the high ones (although she had to climb a bit for that last one)and into mezzo- soprano land when she has to. What a voice! What a talent! I wish she had seen fit to give her adoring public and the world more years of her delightful singing and acting. Imagine Deanna on the stage of grand opera! Great!
Does anybody know what movie this is?

She may have been born in Canada of British parents, but it is the States that made her famous! So I say hurray for the U.S.A. and Deanna! :)

Yes, she was absolutely a better singer, far easier to watch and more "real" because they didn't have her all hopped up on drugs to make her thinner.
