  • Great video, but I was wondering is that Darth Vader behind the camera?

  • throttle bodies are not meant to be cleaned!! what he does at 6:38 is deadly! On a fly by wire system if you manually move the throttle plate you will kill the TP sensor

  • Do not use any information he is giving out here if you like your car!!!Not trying to be mean but everything he is doing is bad for your throttle body.

  • Excellent job showing how to do things. I was wondering how often you would recommend cleaning the TB? What kind of mileage, and what kind of driving(city or country) did the TB you clean in this video have?

  • Do not ever do it! Big trouble now!

  • hey i was wondering if you could help me out. does the plate/valve that moves inside the throttle body have to be fully closed or is it okay if there is a small gap between the valve and the cylinder walls (like 1mm or 1.5mm). I did all three setups, (throttle valve close position, accelerator pedal release, and idle air learning) but the service engine soon indicator light has come on and doesnt go away. do the codes have to be reset? i am idleing at 600 rpm, how can i check my ignition timing?

  • ボルトの頭の数字はサイズでは無く、強度区分ですよ。

the number on the top of the bolts are not their size, but their strength class. thx vid.

  • Did the same in my FX35 but later got problems with too hight RPMs - around 900 instead of 650! Had to go to the sealership and set RPMs via consult.

  • Great job showing us how to clean a throttle body. My Z had a misfire in it an finally stopped running - all the while the check engine light was yelling at me. Replaced all the plugs and 2 faulty coil packs. Come to find out it was my mass airflow sensor that crapped out on me, which was the real problem. I'm going to clean my Thr Bod now...Cheers!

  • dont do this to your car you dont haff to

  • Thanks for taking all your time and energy to educate us on this process. My Dodge dealer wanted to charge me $119.00 to clean the throttle body on my 2002 Dodge Caravan. Now I can do it myself! Nice!

  • For all the people have idle problems after doing this, you most likely sprayed too much or didn't direct the spray correctly and fucked up the TPS "Throttle Positon Sensor"

  • This was really helpful in DIY servicing my 06 Volvo V70R. Thanks!

  • Very nice video. Made the entire procedure quite easy. I used an S-shaped allen wrench to get the bolts off and that helped quite a bit.

  • Do a video on the procedures of a clutch/flywheel installation. You make great videos! I would like to see more DIY for basic things too.

  • OHNOPAYPAL- Maybe YOU should make a video on how to make a repair video MR. UNAPPRECIATIVE

  • You need a better camera man. wtf he doing aiming it to your hands instead of the part. Can't see shit.

  • after we clean the throtte body follow the same procedure, the car has been experienced a hig RPM which is too dangerous for the driver. i need answer please now.. the car model is TAHOE 2007

  • Yes, the TB is indeed covered with a protective coating, however, throttle body cleaner is designed with this in mind, and prevents the coating from being disturbed. the TB is fragile, and if you are not careful while cleaning it (dropping it) then you could damage it.

  • awesome video! fixed my sticky accelerator problem. im a girl....and if i can do it, ANYONE CAN DO IT :) car runs beautifullllllllllllll! thnx

    bythabayplayer!

  • Awesome - this fixed my hot idle problem! Thanks for posting this video!

  • good job but I have a suggestion that you can achieve same or more if you use 3 M Engine Cleaning kit... what do you think, I used the kit on my g35 coupe... it's really easy to use and works great.

  • Here's the Kit part number "3M Do-It-Yourself Fuel System Tune-Up Kit, 8963" that I used, it on my G35 coupe, comes with Instructions and a DVD ... cost about $40. Cleans The complete fuel system.

  • You can also buy a brand new throttle body replacement. They are only $150.00 now.

  • Do a video about the procedures how to fix the idle or ecu reset. THANKS

  • ok, I'll try to do that when I get a chance

  • Why you did not say that I was going to have IDLE problems. Now I need to take my car to the dealer so they can fix it. Everything you said about how to fix it is to hard. Next vid more details so we ca not have problems.

  • I do this normally for work, and I never have problems. You need to watch the video and judge the difficulty - that is why the video is available, vs a simple DIY. Sorry to hear about your troubles; good luck!

  • solder boy!

  • Awesome vid, I wish more people would upload these kinds of videos for us DIY'ers ;-)

  • According to the 2003 G35 FSM I have, torque specs for those 4 bolts are 64 - 85 in*lbs. My car also won't idle properly after I cleaned the TB.

  • Thank you!!!

  • Read this before trying to clean your G35 Throttle Body:

I preformed everything in this video exactly as was shown, and my throttle body got cleaned but you must understand that it will probably cost you about $180 if you do it all correctly. Disconnecting the TB harness will make your CE light come on and will make the car throttle high. Tried the re-learn over 40 times. never worked. The dealership has to use the Consult II diagnostic tool to correct this. Be warned. Otherwise very helpful.

  • @marcuslaughter You're too impatient then. It took me a long time to, but I eventually got it for my 05 maxima. No codes or high idle.....:) Keep trying...I'd suggest Mississippis LOL

  • @ 1:60 you say there is no torx spec for it. So what kind of bit did u use for TB screws? Is it a torx? (t30/t35/t40)? or can we use allen? I tried 5mm allen (L shaped lever) and after exerting considerable body effort (@ 3:00), I was able to get the top-left screw off. But I wasn't able to remove rest of the screws, infact I fear screwing up some of the threading on the inside of the screws if put too much force (like use a hammer!). These screws seem pretty tight!

  • I think in fact I did use a 5mm hex key on it. It should be very clear to you the type of tool needed by looking at the exposed screw. The screws are initially tough to remove because of the many heat cycles that they've been exposed to, however, if you follow my method for removal, you should be able to get them off without issue. There are actually torque specs for those bolt, but I don't know what they are right now; I found them a while back...

  • will a dirty throttle body fail your car for emissions?

  • Unless your throttle body malfunctions, you shouldn't have any issues passing emission.

  • Haha, here comes the person who has to comment about your video and what not. But at points when you were cleaning out your throttle, like 6:34. Shouldn't the motor have been facing up instead of down? So when the inexperienced people clean it, they don't get the solution in the motor and screw up the throttle body?

  • I don't quite understand which motor you are talking about. At 6:34 I only see the throttle body, would you please clarify the question?

  • Hmm, I just know cars, how to mod it and stuff. But terminology isn't my best thing. Haha, excuse me for my lack of knowlege, but at like 6:55 when you put the cleaning solution into the Throttle Body, the black part was facing on the bottom side. If the solution gets into that, doesn't it screw up the throttle body? That's what I heard, I usually have it facing up so the solution doesn't drip in.

  • The solution is throttle body cleaner and should be safe for all throttle bodies. I've never had a case of fluid getting in there as far as I know. I don't think it's anything to worry about. The biggest risk for damage is shock; don't drop it.

  • The dealership did tell me that they never spray the cleaner into the TB, they spray it on a rag and then whipe out the carbon build-up. They told me specifically to avoid spraying cleaner as it can get into the housing of the TB. This is not a problem on Toyota TB's, they said, but nissian has this problem. For the record, when I cleaned mine, I sprayed it all over the place and it was fine, so I didn't experience a problem, just passing along the dealership recommendation.

  • use a tooth brush

  • Yeah, I've done that be before too, but I think a microfiber towel alone works slightly better since it absorbs as it looses the crud. With a toothbrush the carbon gets pushed around, but doesn't come off any easier.

  • I followed your how to and i had no problems. Thanks for posting the DIY's! you're awesome!

  • I was about to reply to a comment someone left but I accidentally hit the remove button instead of the reply button. Sorry. The comment was the guy saying he did this and his check engine light came on and he had to go get his TB recalibrate at the dealer and luckily he had a friend there so it was free so his point was that this procedure is stupid to follow and that all you have to do is drive the car hard to clean it out.

  • my reply to this is that driving the car hard will actually not clean this area out. If anything it will get dirtier because of the blow-by oil vapor. As long as you are careful, take your time, and follow the directions for the reset procedures at the end, you will be fine. As always, do it at your own risk.

  • theres some oil right here... haha why go thru all this work.. i have a G and i never do anything like this i find it pointless and time consuming

  • It's just something that's recommended by many mechanics, so I plan to do it as part of my regular maintenance. I've never cleaned mine before, but I'm going to do it at 60k.

  • Dirt, debris, and elements of the open air that is all sucked up into your intake and passing thru the throttle body can cause a nasty ass build up that constricts air flow, acceleration, and over all response of the car.

  • will this dameges the TB?

  • I'm not sure how to respond - could you please be more specific with your question or indicate why you think it would be damaged after?

  • my car is 02 maxima, and I'm looking for a better way to clean my E-TB. I heard somebody has damaged his E-TB during cleaning it. so...

  • hmm... It is a sensitive part, however, if you are careful and don't expose it to any shocks (there is a warning in the service manual about this) then it should be fine. Just take your time and don't rush. Good luck and let me know how it goes if you decide to clean it.

  • Great Video! Thanks!!

  • How many miles between cleanings?

  • traditionally it's been 30k, but I think 60k in this application should suffice.

  • a chemical resistant brush and throttle body cleaner works well too...

  • I did use throttle body cleaner. If you're implying cleaning the throttle body without removing it from the engine bay, I've done that before too, however, by taking it off I felt I was able to clean it much better.

  • very nice video, this reminds me that I am due up for a throttle body cleaning on my 04 sedan.

  • good job on reminding us to do this brither man.

  • brother*(typo)
