In recent videos I've seen of him he's very stiff except for the occasional violent guitar thrashing. He seems kind of creepy, actually. At least Yorke does the Idiotheque dance. They all could smile more and actually look like they are having fun playing their music for people, well, maybe not during all the songs, but at least during the faster, more upbeat ones. Isn't rock and roll supposed to be about having fun, not moping around mumbling about being depressed?

well, to each his own. i respect your opinion, but it's pretty unimaginative and boring to me. take a band like Sonic Youth. what they do is brilliant. it's near impossible to recreate a studio experience in a true live setting... you might as well go on tour with a studio if you wanted that. i have yet to come across a single band ("studio band" or not) that has perfectly recreated their studio sound live.

and i'll also add that production values and changes from album to album have a lot to do with it. if you have Steve Albini producing an album, then it probably sounds live already. if you've got Nigel Godrich or some other studio wizard, it's going to be hard to replicate.

Frankly Ive never heard a good live version of this song. The studio version is uncomparably better, but this the only "decent" live performance I've heard hitherto, that's why I posted it here. I like the Muse too, but their live performances are always worse than the studio versions. By contrast, the Radiohead often make live performances better than the studio versions, except for this song. Dont know why, simply it's not playable live... all live versions of this are bad to listen.

you have a point, Just sounds horrible live most of the time. it's mainly because, and others would agree, when Radiohead play the distorted songs in 3 guitar mode it leads to chaos. Thom not playing for much of the song does help, but there's so much treble in their distortion (Thom alone guy uses 2 RATs) it all just conflicts.

It can be used on anything really with an audio output, more so for guitars. It literally "shifts" the "pitch" (hence pitchshifter) of the note or sound etc being played/ put through the device. For example this can allow you access to another ocatave whihc may have previously not been able to play at. They are often used to shift to a minor 5th for example also. They're well cool pedals like for guitar.
