They never play this song right live. Yeah I understand that it's supposed to be a different experience live, but I dont like it. Jonny pisses me off the way he plays this song live. It's just my opinion.
ascrodin, when you have a good band half as decent as radiohead and you play a tenth of what jonny greenwood can play when not even trying, then you'll be able to criticize him. til then, just keep your useless comments to yourself
You're taking the piss dwayne, yeah? I could understand if you thought it was an original Ronson because the younger generations mightn't actually have a clue, but to say Ronsons cover is better?? Christ.
Jonny is more interested in immersing himself to the instrument, its 100% about the music and not about trying to look cool by using cliched rock moves, what do you want?? scissor kicks or something, then watch van halen
In recent videos I've seen of him he's very stiff except for the occasional violent guitar thrashing. He seems kind of creepy, actually. At least Yorke does the Idiotheque dance. They all could smile more and actually look like they are having fun playing their music for people, well, maybe not during all the songs, but at least during the faster, more upbeat ones. Isn't rock and roll supposed to be about having fun, not moping around mumbling about being depressed?
well have you heard the music? it's not exactly the bends in terms of uplifting songs... "you are all i neeeeeeed" not that it's second best or anything.
and i'm sure you *have* heard the songs, i'm just using affect ;D
ascrodin, it's not rock and roll, it's alternative rock, completely different genres. Then again, Radiohead is much more then alternative, it's hard to generalize any original band into one genre of music really. When was this? Pretty recent performance for Just.
He's not a bad musician, it's just that he's lifeless on stage beyond some occasional guitar, and he never seems to show any sort of expressions on his face, its always that really somber look and nothing else.
is it me or are you not listening to him, jonny greenwood is probably up there with the hendrixs as far as origianlity goes. have you ever heard anyone play the way he does before radiohead came about? no.
I wasn't saying anything about his guitar technique. I had a typo that may have made you think I was talking about is technique. I was actually just commenting on his stage presence, which needs major improvement.
Thom can sing better than this. Is this from the Ok Computer era? I love Radiohead! :)The guitar is awesome even if the singing is off key. I wonder if Thom still has that guitar.
well, to each his own. i respect your opinion, but it's pretty unimaginative and boring to me. take a band like Sonic Youth. what they do is brilliant. it's near impossible to recreate a studio experience in a true live setting... you might as well go on tour with a studio if you wanted that. i have yet to come across a single band ("studio band" or not) that has perfectly recreated their studio sound live.
and i'll also add that production values and changes from album to album have a lot to do with it. if you have Steve Albini producing an album, then it probably sounds live already. if you've got Nigel Godrich or some other studio wizard, it's going to be hard to replicate.
im very pleased Radiohead's live shows do not sound exactly like the studio version does. why the fuck would you want that? they always add something new to their live interpretations of their work.
oh shut up for fucks sake. they do (like any other band) have an off performance now and then. that does not cancel the fact that they are one of the best live bands in the world. they have won numerous awards for being the best live act in the world. also, check the most recent Rolling Stone's list of the best live bands.
Frankly Ive never heard a good live version of this song. The studio version is uncomparably better, but this the only "decent" live performance I've heard hitherto, that's why I posted it here. I like the Muse too, but their live performances are always worse than the studio versions. By contrast, the Radiohead often make live performances better than the studio versions, except for this song. Dont know why, simply it's not playable live... all live versions of this are bad to listen.
you have a point, Just sounds horrible live most of the time. it's mainly because, and others would agree, when Radiohead play the distorted songs in 3 guitar mode it leads to chaos. Thom not playing for much of the song does help, but there's so much treble in their distortion (Thom alone guy uses 2 RATs) it all just conflicts.
It's not that! The song is easy to sing, but here it sounds almost as if he doesn't want to sing it right. Almost as if he hates this song! HE HATES IT!
Now, I do like Muse, but you my friend are insane if yout think they are better live than Radiohead!
Even just in there music in general, Radiohead absolutely conquer Muse. Muse have never released a masterpeice of album like OK Computer, or even the Bends..... so Muse shouldnt even be compared to Radiohead!
Oh wow HORRIBLE Radiohead performance. One of the rare times that Radiohead fuck up. It's an old song and they probably forgot how it goes. At one point, Thom got the wrong lyrics in. Ouchies Thom.
Any guitar players that can fill me in on what effect he uses to get the high run towards the end? Right before the breakdown. Is it just a whammy pedal?
It can be used on anything really with an audio output, more so for guitars. It literally "shifts" the "pitch" (hence pitchshifter) of the note or sound etc being played/ put through the device. For example this can allow you access to another ocatave whihc may have previously not been able to play at. They are often used to shift to a minor 5th for example also. They're well cool pedals like for guitar.
muse suck

You'll see if Jonny is life less. :)

do you even know JONNY Greenwood? he's very active on stage. look the bends at jools holland (improved audio). there you can see him rock!
