Thanks for the explanation Prof. Sahab.......as it seems, one can extract so many different meaning from a single expression particularly in the poetry……anyways.......you’ve done a good job at singing this song……best wishes……mansoor
Thanks very much for responding! You’re right, film poetry can be quite vague sometimes……..but I thought there was a link between raat and sehar (raat/night as an expression for sorrow/grief, and sehar/dawn as the symbol for the end of this grief and the sign of hope…….I think this is a fairly common expression used in urdu/hindi poetry…….
@mansoorpak1 Interesting, that may be true for sad or philosophical poetry but in romantic poetry as it is, raat symbolizes the ultimate beauty and a lover always wishes to meet a friend during the ecstasy of night rather than the morning. The charisma of night comes to an end with the sunrise. Anyway, you have an opinion or a point of view which I respect. Thanks.
@mansoorpak1 I have always been clear about Pehar and Sehar, and this variation was deliberate. Film poetry is sometimes symbolic, abstract, full of blunders or even meaningless. One has to be careful in choosing words. Raton ki sehar has always sounded meaningless to me, so I exercised my little discretion to make this small and unnoticeable change. (cont.)
vow this is great ! i did not know that you are a singer too besides having so many other talents ! thank you sir for the great rendition of a beautiful song .!

This song was beautifully sung by Hemant Kumar for the film Chhabili (1960). However, he shouldn't be blammed as a singer for the point you have raised because the music composer was Snehl Bhatkar, who could explain it better as to how this tune was created. Unfortunately none of these persons is presently living including Dean Martin, so perhaps we also have to live with this issue. However, your point is well taken and appreciated.
Sir I am in no way demeaning the worth of Hemant Kumar. We all know what a great singer he is. I was just saying that the composition was not original.
Whenever I get time listen your this song , this is always my favourite from your end.

Good effort sir........just a small note.......it's not 'ratoo key PEHR'......the correct verse is 'ratoo ki SEHER'......i hope you don't mind......
