  • Paul rules!

  • This review does NOT do the "Open Road" justice .... his setup in this particular demo is not highlighting the real juicy-ness of the Open Road .... it really is a different-sounding OD, with nice, smooth, juicy upper-mid's. One thing he needed to do with this pedal is crank the Tone up more than he did. But listening to this demo, i'm not sure if that would do it anyway...his cleans are too flat and lacking treble. Kicking up the treble is where the Open road really shines. JMHO. rgds.

  • Nice thing about Visual Sound is if you have a question, comment, or technical issue with one of their pedals, you can go on either their facebook page or facebook official user group page and you'll get an answer from Bob Weil himself or someone way up in tech support. Very Excellent customer service.

  • Most gear out there is good. Comes down to do you know how to use it.

  • Paul rules!

  • Paul, is that epi un-modified?

  • Guys, don't be so hard on Paul. When you get as much free gear as Guitar World does, you feel obligated to say good things about them. When you actually have to shell out $100+ for something then you can be critical

  • haha! @1:56 he calls the overdrive a delay! I cannot stand his reviews, good player but the tone of everything he does sucks.

  • that amp is way too dark for a pedal demo. i wanna hear how it affects a flat EQ not one that sounds terrible.

  • hey paul cant u do a review on useless pedal?

  • I just realized how lovely Paul's fingernails looks.

  • That room has lots of reverb to it... why are you doing demos in that room Paul? We want to hear the sound of the pedal, not the sound of the pedal in a room full of reverb, through a crappy guitar into a good amp.

  • what amp/cab is being used?

  • real warm and organic delay lol :P

  • I cannot help but to wonder what amp Paul uses on most of his demos. Anyone know for sure?

  • Superb playing. Mr. Paul Riario, I take my hat off to you. Oh, and the pedals sound great too.

  • I really like this over drive!

  • G&L > fender

  • @surfco G&L = what fender used to be

  • tube rattle

  • it sounds dead without the truetone

  • @faousa1 Its because this demo isn't a nice sounding one, he doesn't seem to have his amp treble turned up...check out the gearmandude demos...

  • does any one know what song he played at 2:18

    please reply to me

  • he can't play actual songs, they're copyrighted.

  • bullshit. you can play songs, as long as you're not making a profit off of them.

  • @41224jason exactly, but these videos weren't made for youtube, they were made for the CD that comes with the magazine that people have to pay to get. So therefor, Guitar World would technically be making money from the songs, which is why they don't just play them straight up

  • Visual Sound makes great pedals! I feel like they aren't as known as they should be.

  • Easy paying Job Huh!!!

  • yea i am glad i bought the silverburst. ebony looks great but silverburst... oh my god...

  • KIck out the JAMMZZ MOTHER FUCKER!

  • @DunDamage Mc5! Heck yeah!!!

  • AWhhh yaaa!!!! mangg helllaa yea!!!

  • 1:56 Think the open road sounds more like an OD than a delay. But I could be wrong

  • lol

  • thats what i was thinking...

  • Nice pedals, I really love the tone of the OD. Reminds me of the classic Boss OD-1.

  • yellow has good sound! i didnt like the black one because it has middles

  • Mids are pretty essentially no?

  • well those mids are important...considering that your guitar lives in the frequencies...

  • i really like the open road (: great distortion

  • 1:56? Is it really a delay? Does anyone at guitarworld watch these videos?

  • @senojnomis lmao

  • i heard that too :s

  • ffs why bash epiphone? every company has shitty guitars. High end epiphones are quite good, just test them out and dont buy the shitty ones

  • I think Paul needs a break...1:55 he calls the overdrive a "delay"...Wow!

  • haha, indeed! I just noticed ..

Whoa, they should've definitely done a re-take on that bit!

  • I think the reasons he plays certain guitars in these vids are.

1.paid by the company for advertising

    2. they want low budget guitars that kids will be able to relate to... if he's playing a 3000 guitar kids will feel alienated.

  • Yup. GW doesn't do reviews, they do advertisements.

  • He used a PRS for a while. Maybe the pickups are changed to Gibson ones, so people will think these pedals sound better than they are.

  • did he always have a wedding band???

  • or you could just buy a voodoo lab sparkle drive.overdrive with a clean boost

  • hey, he can actually set a clean sound :D

  • Beautiful sounding overdrive! Really classy - smoothness and just the right amount of grit! Thanks for the review! :-)

  • This is paul, from guitar world. Everyday, I'll be using a low end guitar on a nice amp, and tell you how awesome every piece of gear I come across is.

  • maybe he likes that guitar :)

  • @ScreamingBloodyGore it's not always about price....

  • definitely, I play a squier strat and it serves me very well for being a guitarist for 3 years

  • Or maybe you just suck and you're satisfied with mediocrity?

  • No I don't suck actually. Fender just makes quality products in their subordinate lines. The squier looks, feels (to a great extent), and sounds like a true strat. Nuff said.

  • Wow, you're easily sated. Your taste in guitars is poor, my friend, very poor.

  • @InstrumentalMania I agree. I have several American Fenders, including a custom shop strat, but I also have two squier classic vibes. I love them as well.

  • Epiphone Les Paul is what he's playing. Those suck. Badly. Low budget guitars.

  • I agree, but in this case, he's right most Epiphone Les Paul guitars are a sham. I played one once and it didn't sound like a "real" Les Paul to me. The custom Epiphone is OK, but the Les Paul Studio is FAR better.

  • @rocknrollguru23

MIJ Epiphones are better then most Gibson LP Standards though, its a shame more people dont know about them, or that they aren't as readily available in the US

  • @demize12

True, i've never played an MIJ Epiphone. However, I would question as to whether or not it has that "real" Gibson feel/sound. Alot of Les Pauls and Gibson instruments have little tricks and digital stuff, or have been drilled so they are lighter. Even the new Standards are drilled now, so I will only buy used or reissue Gibsons.

  • @ScreamingBloodyGore epiphones aren't bad guitars and plus its kind of his job to review new items that come out sounds like a pretty good job to me

  • Oh god, your stupid ass again.

    1. Epiphones suck. Straight up. They're poor quality.

    2. The joke is, is that he always gives good reviews. Yeah, it's his job, but instead of JUST showing us the good stuff, he should be telling us what sucks to. Also, did I ever say he did a bad job? Your stupid cunt just LOVES to assume things off of my comments, doesn't it? This is the second time you've fucking jumped to conclusions based on a comment on one of these videos, and you're STILL an idiot.

  • The actual magazine shows some flaws in their reviews.

  • Free videos, or paying for a magazine? Choice is clear. Either way, this doesn't affect the validity of my comment -- the videos do not show anything negative. Nor does it change the fact that bfmvrocks101 is fucking stupid as hell.

  • It's cheap for a subscription, who cares? This si coming from a Canadian who pays more in shipping too.. It's worth it.

  • Mehf. I'm cheap, as are a lot of people. Plus, magazines are becoming an obsolete form of up-to-date media. Vlogging, and at the very least blogging, is becoming key when it comes to keeping people informed. And again, this doesn't affect the validity of my statement.

  • I agree, it is going to be difficult for a magazine to explain why they slammed a product who advertise in their mag. The last thing a mag wants is to lose ads!

  • Exactly... if they switched to a blog/vlog based form of media, then they wouldn't have to deal with sponsors. They could pick up ads from literally ANYWHERE, or they could charge a subscription fee, and only put a few videos up a month for people to preview and decide whether or not it's worth it. It'd save them a TON on printing.

  • @ScreamingBloodyGore could be good, then they could actually point out problems with products, like Guitar Player magazine. I don't read Guitar World anyway, how do you call it Guitar WORLD and then have only metal guys featured every month? Small world indeed.

  • But there are plenty of blogs that do review gear without sponsors such as ahem Guitar Noize ;)

  • Well then, maybe i'll have to check them out.

  • yes it does.

  • Not all Epi's are poor quality, that is a bit of a sweeping generalisation.

  • That's a zesty overdrive. I like how natural it sounds, not to muddy or saturated.

  • how much does one of these go for?

  • is it just me or does it sound like an old mono radio when he turned both pedals on

  • that overdrive is tasty.

  • i really like the sound of the overdrive.

  • @CiviC092 Which one?

  • @YofterMofter Open Road

  • @CiviC092 Ahh right, there's only one overdrive in this vid. I completely confused it with the other vid I was watching at the same time. Sorry for that, and thanks for the reply!

  • not bad

  • NICE!

  • I like visual sound gear, good stuff
