SHOW NO MERCY is the supreme thrash metal album and it is unbeatable. Die by the Sword is the greatest Slayer song and everyone who raves about how RiB is the best Slayer album can suck a dick.
Damn, can you imagine how old the people in this crow are nowadays,? to tell their story of how much they used to swing their heads hard bak in the day lol.
I totally agree, they played here a couple of weeks ago, and it was sad when all those assholes started arguing that bloodline was the best song of the night...
I bought a bootleg fifteen yrs ago called CAPTORS OF SIN and it includes Poperinge gig(I didn´t know it was Heavy Sound Festival) and other gig. Old black spirit is brought and only SLAYER KEEPS THE BLACK FLAME BURNING!
You all are right on point! Show No Mercy is an EXCELLENT record. And so is Hell Awaits and Haunting the Chapel. Why is it people only stick with what is considered "essential" such as Reign in Blood; good album, yes, but the best? Haha, I think not. All the kiddies know modern Slayer and then Reign in Blood...sickening, yes.
I was there! Pressed against the front fence with a self-made "Slayer Has No Boundaries" banner made out of an old bed sheet :-)). It's great to see King and Hanneman at half their current size, the 7" spikes and the chains, the synchronized banging,... Does make me feel like an old fart, tho.
Rain in blood who everyone for some stupid reason considers their best album is just a stripped down light version of SNM. This is their best album ever. Its got long songs, great breakdowns, evil chain saw guitar riffs, rythmic metal drum beats, and echoing on key vocals. Bring back old slayer dammit, wake up slayer this is the style you need to be at
Fukk yeah!! All of these modern so called "Slayer" fans are a bunch of fakes. "Show No Mercy" is Slayer's greatest fukking album. "Crionics" is the best and most underrated Slayer song in my opinion.
God they rule. Long live heavy metal and Slayer. And yeah I agree with jiminey6969.They associate themselves with bands that are absolute garbage. It either serves to make them look awesome and the other bands like shit, or they do it because they feel bad. I think it's the former.
It was the best, my favorite is Hell Awaits followed closely by SNM. But I still really like Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven, Seasons In The Abyss and Divine Intervention. Past that they havent been that great.
I used to have a double vinyl boot of 1985 rehearsals and a side of Live Undead stuff, and it was obviously the tracks from the official record but there were vocals missing. The audience was a bunch of radio contest winners, who knows if they added extra crowd noise.
It is claimed that some of the songs on Live Undead were recorded in studio ond then played crowd noise to it...is that true? I mean I can't believe that.
The Best way to open an album Black Magic Die by the Sword Anti-Christ Show no Mercy I love this album to death speaking of Death Screaming Bloody Gore!!!!!!
So the other night in town I was wearing my Slayer tshirt, trashed, and a couple of shit-nerds (term courtesy of Johnny R) complemented me on it and I realised that most people these days who like it are like that
i think the old slayer is faster than everthing else...the speed in the songs in the 80's (when they play live) are soo fast...i thing no one can beat this..
i agree to the opening text. i really liked Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits. Reign In Blood got boring and too overplayed (my opinion). the first two albums were the best from these guys!
Crazy how back then the only people that listened to slayer were the hard core. Man i was so young listing to thrash metal, but what were you gonna do? listen to those sissy hairbands?
Tom has always been a loyal Christian/Catholic. The band did this in order to get attention. No one had ever done it and it was their way to success. Early days they would go 4 different directions when they finished a gig. Most of the songs are written by Hanneman anyways.
The albums before Hell Awaits are pretty cool, but Reign in Blood was damn good and some of South of Heaven was pretty good too. After that though, you are right, because only fools and faggots like the new Slayer past South of Heaven.
I believe it's the same thing for many other metal bands of that decade: early Anthrax, early Metallica, and especially early Sepultura (morbid visions, bestial devastation, schizophrenia)
Well! I'm 40 now...But i was in the crowd, this day in Poperinge. I still got my ticket! And man, the Slayer's show, in the end of the afternoon...What a blast!!!
The opening is oh so true, everybody says "Oh my god, it's Reign in Blood" no, Hell Awaits rules, ( I love 7/7 songs on it, I like 4 on RIB) and, the new stuff is good, but shit compared to oldness, especially vocals...poor, poor, Tommy boy
Hey violent-the opening text is so very true-I am a 38 year old headbanger and I always thought Hell Awaits and all albums before were their best-glad to see a lot of people agree with that.
Kerry King with Hair, Araya with childs loud voicy... I also listen more until Dave Lombard left (sacked) on 1992, here there is even the old vocals of Tom, thanks for posting this Bijou!!!
It's too bad Slayer used the downtuned Evil Has No Boundaries to write Angel Of Death and War Enesmble. The three albums after Hell Awaits were pretty good, but I agree that Hell Awaits is the best one.
this is totally awesome footage. i remember an interview for this in the metal hammer mag in 1984 or so. that brought my attention to slayer. from then on was a fan.
"Blasting our way through the boundaries of hell no one can stop us tonight" goddam i love the first line what a good way to start a damn good thrash album. Show no Mercy
Hell yeah!! it's their legendary Poperinge concert from belgium . . the next day it was frontpage news cuz some real die-hard Slayer fans and bikergangs robbing the dead from the grave and chained the corpses to their bikes and drove them all around town . . Necrophiliacs!!! i guess you'll know who got blamed . . anyway if you got more footage of the Poperinge show please post it that would be Fuckin' awesome!!
