We provide the Epic/Scarlet cameras when we fly so no worries. The best pilots for this line of work have extensive FAI competition experience. These are the only pilots we use as they have spent thousands of hours practicing with the goal being perfect control of the aircraft. Hobby pilots all think they are good pilots, just like everyone thinks they are good drivers, but only a hand full are Formula One quality. Letting anyone fly an Epic who is not at this level probably won't end well.
why dont you just charter a real helicopter and go along for the ride and shoot video yourself? Much cheaper... probably a couple hundred dollars per hour
@richardreidjr Nice idea - except that the scale of what I'm planning on shooting doesn't call for a real helicopter - also less likely to chop people's heads off. I think the key here is to hire a PROFESSIONAL RC Helicopter Pilot - this is basically a Cautionary Tale about that. This ended at ZERO cost to me personally so just sharing something that will help people THINKING OF HIRING SOMEONE THEY DON'T KNOW.
@ItsNotFlare Hi there. Have you already found a pilot with the actual skills to fly it? If you're still looking for some professional advise, assistance or just the whole service of making aerials, please feel free contacting me. Br, Bas Pauw
based on startup sounds and the motion of camera gimbal, its definitely mikrokopter, on what looks like a cinestar frame from the shadow. overpriced garbage.
Not sure it was 20K, but I'm amazed what stuff Arduino shows up in nowadays...another octocopter...the guy said the ESC (motor speed regulators) can fail mid flight and it can still fly w/ 7 engines (ok, youtube won't let me post links...google for "arducopter diydrones"
My guess comes down on the side of digital interference from the camera into the flight control system as signal strength weakened with distance and rising vegetated ground proximity.
You can hear at my guess up to 50% of the motors shutting down before the impact.
lol $26000 didnt last long eh? should of built one of my quad for $150 ;) would of crashed just as well but left you with $25850 change to go buy something else ;)

@0n3m1s1s0 Any links to your quadcopter? I haven't found anything capable of lifting anything the weight of a loaded Epic (5-6 lbs?)
