  • Mu music teach is teaching u this song but a different melody

  • Durufle wrote each of these notes to perfection.

Best piece of Choral music Ever.

  • Listening to this beautiful piece bring peace to one's soul!

  • I just love that final bass note

  • wow how can you not like it thanks

  • BEAUTIFUL.

  • Cannot wait for the Royal Wedding setting by Paul Mealor.

  • @Pyanistman ITUNES! :D

  • Thats close to how my school sings it. But they do it better because they have sped it up and dropped the jaw alot more. But amazing singing. Being in a echoy church makes it just that much more amazing. Props to them because I know the dedication that goes into that

  • Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! Doesn't get much better than this.

Means "Just as I have loved you you will love one another".

  • This is the best interpretation of this setting. The Choir of King's College, Cambridge does it again!

  • Cause Jesus forgives.

There's no reason to practice Morality.

So being an evil little heathen and believing in Jesus will get ya to heaven. However if you are a good person and don't believe in Jesus you go to Hell.

Only a demon would suggest that,

only an ignorant would believe it.

  • You're a true Christian up until you are caught sinning.

    Christianity lacks a practice.

    Dependence on others accomplishes nothing.

If ya want something done ya got to do it yourself.

Meditation is a practice that increases awareness,

that helps identify sin before it has a chance to influence.

  • Durufle takes us to another dimension with this.

  • In my opinion, while this sounds very, very nice, I wish they had more variation in the tempo (not faster or slower). Parts of this sounded somewhat mechanical rather than organic. Had the music been subordinate to the words, and the natural rhythm of the Latin been allowed to play out a little more (as I suspect the chant was performed in its day), this performance would be second to none in my book.

  • i LOVE this song! every time i hear it it touches my heart!

  • we're doing this song in choir. but we are no where near as awesome at doing at as these guys are.

  • mmmm bottom Eb

  • This is our Highschool Chorus Song :D they sound WAYY better than us though xD

  • Great work!

  • AMAZING! I LOVE THIS!

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard.

it brings me to tears every time i listen to it.

  • That's how the song really is!

  • THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL

    I want to cry

  • 1:28

i've sung with the guy right at the far end ;)

  • Wunderschön!

  • chills

  • Best performance of this piece on Youtube. Great!

  • Excellent piece, perfect performance! Wow! This text seems to have been set to music by many composers, I have recently discovered Francis Potts' on Youtube and it is equally stunning!

  • Deus Ibi est

    May it be so

  • There is nothing more enchanting than the human voice singing God's praises. Nothing can be compared to this.

  • well i love kings but i do think its too fast. this piece should bring stillness to the heart and mind.

  • Hmm, it seems seven people missed the "like" button.

  • this is the best choir in my opinion for this song

  • Yet another perfect performance by the King's Choir. These guys get it perfect every time.

  • these men are beautiful.

  • that's what i'm talkin about

  • @URjaggerjr Why do you think they're all gay?

  • Inspiring music, inspirational choir !

  • The most perfect piece of music!

  • My School sang it at the begginning of the year its a pretty good song

  • Wow....

  • we r singin this song at skool :P_

  • My skool is too

  • Absolutely beautiful! We're going to learn this piece for our gospel music choir for this coming Maundy Thursday & I doubt if we'll ever be able to come to the level of these young singers. What excellence!

  • Beautiful.

    :)

  • Durufle was a genius when it came to choral music-hopefully more people will discover him so his works are more famous.

  • u can either b popular or genius it seems :P

  • I agree-musically, at least. For example, Einstein was both popular and a genius, but he was outside of music. Rare is the composer who is both incredibly talented and popular, unfortunately.

  • case in point: Ke$ha

    autotune is the antichrist xP

  • Here we go, a real choral sound.

    none of that zero vibrato.

  • This is absolutly beautiful. i was just handed this piece yesterday and its absolutly fantastic. I agree with eurofrank1, the Counter Tenors shine fabulously. now seeing this video, i love having the Counter Tenors instead of the girls =]

  • Wao Young boys with the techniques. WELL DONE ! Such "tall" sound. I like !

  • I would also like to congratulate these young basses for hitting the bottom E flats time and time again with apparent ease - not easy during a performance!

  • Actually, in my high school's select choir, I'm really the only bass that can be heard singing the Eb2, so to me, it isn't that hard. But I do love this piece, though-it's absolutely beautiful.

  • Well, excuse me for being able to provide some clarification with this piece. Even my choir teacher (who used to a tenor in the Dale Warland singers) agrees with my claim, so if you've got some issue with this, take it up with him, not me. Besides, for a piece that celebrates love and warmth, this is not a piece for a battle of words over one note.

  • very pretty song. A haunting yet very hopeful song

  • I sang this in a mixed choir but it sounds soo much better all guys

  • The counter tenors really do shine beautifully - sorry girls/ladies!

  • @Eurofrank1

I agree, I'm also a lady but it sound so mutch nicer when the alto part is sung by counter tenors!

  • Don't know...but English choirs like KIng's College, Cambridge SInges or BBC Singers are just impeccable!!!!

  • that was fantastic! especially with an ensemble of all men. i think it would have been a little more intimate if it were a little slower though. i dunno, when i hear such beautiful pieces of music i love to take it slowly

  • incredible! thanks for posting

  • Very nice. Great sound and articulation.

  • This is what I call professionalism. Period.

  • lawa amat suara kita dia.....

    ngarap ke Tuhan merekat kitak...

    Amen...

  • In response to ruuuubi:

Nein, diese isch nicht schwul. Du hast keinen Kultur

  • See how they are all watching at 1.43 ... that's how to get those time signature changes right at the end. I wish all choirs (basses) would watch this before attempting the piece.

  • Or perhaps the conductor could mention it to his/her basses when first reading through the piece... Something like "Watch here, men, the pulse changes a bit."

  • beautiful!

  • stupendo, commovente!

  • superbo!

  • i really like Duruflè compositions

  • I just got chills. Nice job, gentlemen!

  • so, my mom has this absolutely HILARIOUS fear of countertenors, it apparently "creeps her out." now, if I played this for her, I'm pretty she would change her mind...

  • brings back so many memories - beyond beautiful.

  • Very sweet voices. Like angels! Very lovely. Good to see all these young people.

  • It's so beautiful...This music-text is able to give me peace of heart! Mary

  • Wow! nothing beats this. It's like having a master piece (art) sung to you :)

  • The countertenors sound gorgeous.

  • simon lole's version is a million times nicer

  • Prove it. =)

  • this is absolutely beautiful.

  • this is very cool

  • It's really well done, but I think its way too fast. I like it sung more slowly, with more conviction.

  • I disagree. Any slower than this & it risks sounding self-indulgent. At this pace you get such a fantastic sense of each individual melodic shape...

  • @magdluke

Great point, I will say that if it where any faster, it would sacrifice the impressionistic texture.

  • @magdluke Agreed

  • I don't agree. A bit slower is better-check out the Cambridge Singers. Most importantly it needs to flow. But the beautiful individual lines would get lost in a faster version. If you're doing it for a choir anthem it won't last for the offering-hah, a practical issue LOL.

  • @MsJmckenney You mean King's College, Cambridge? Because that's this group....

  • My high school concert choir is singing this for our gala concert. It's such a pretty song!!! :)

  • This such a beautiful piece, our highschool choir is taking this to state in six weeks ~! time to practice our butts off Go Kathleen*

  • amazing piece. not easy. sounds amazing. especially the low Eflat in the basses at the end of most phrases. But i cant hear it through my tiny computer speakers :(

  • I had the privilege to sing this in high school at an international choir contest in Vienna. It was amazing to sing this song in the cathedral- it floated and was etheral. We sang it slower and it had an almost haunting and yearning feel to it. I fell in love with this style of music because of Durafle

  • I agree that the phrasing is questionable. However, this is fairly easy to sing, but extremely difficult to sing well, and goodness knows there are a lot of poor recordings out there- this is one of the best overall. Among the few choirs who get the dynamics right and really bring out the altos nicely, who carry the piece.

  • This is one of the easiest Anthems in the Anglican Tradition

  • Not easy...not Anglican...

  • Well it is not originally anglican but the anglican church has used it for three hundred years now and it is easy

  • Well, it depends for whom. It's very easy for sopranos, but not that easy for altos and for the other voices. I sang it with a choir I was in some years ago and I remember there was a very difficult part for altos where they split into two voices and they had to sing (sorry I don't know how to say it in English) "un intervalo de segunda" maintained for several notes. That was very difficult for them and they could only master it after several rehearsals.

  • Did you grow in an Anglican Music tradition

  • 300 years, you say! I don't think Durufle was born even before 1900!

  • @pointmastae He's reminding us that theDurufle is just an arrangement - a very fine one - of a Gregorian chant that had a centuries-old history.

  • very easy

  • Comment removed

  • We are singing this in our Homeschool acdemy... I love it, even though some of it is hard to pronounce lol.

  • does anybody else think they take it a shade too fast?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, I agree. Although it's something a bit different than just fast. The rythm is not that fast, the problem for me is that they rush the ending of each phrase. It's like "ok, end of phrase, What's next? That's the feeling I got from listening to it, but otherwise it's a fantastic interpretation.

  • we're singing this at my school

  • this song reminds me of ma bfff ming

    XP

  • I only wish that this was longer... 1:58 is too short! want more! :)

Kings as usual does an amazing, ethereal rendition. Makes me wish I could sing decent treble... alas I'm a 17 year old girl... I refuse to get vibrato! I refuse!

  • that sounds so gorgeous. like how it was meant to be sung.

  • Perfect! It's beautiful. Wspaniałe wykonanie.

  • Amazing! I think this sounds much better in an all male group. The countertenors sound awesome and the kids on the soprano sound great!

  • Wonderful Job, we're singing this on my school choir

  • BRAVO!

  • hey :) Senior District person right here!

  • hello S.E. senior district people!!

    ...am i the only one?

  • Beautiful indeed! It is actually a Motet, as you know a Renaissance form, and has modal elements combined with more modern "20th century" harmonies. A lovely combination. Very consolatory.

  • Beautiful hymn!

  • It's really touching my heart!! So divine!!

  • i am singing this song in choir

  • The Choir of King's College and Durufle's Ubi Caritas. This, my friends, is transcendent. When man sings such anthems, The Lord must be well pleased.

I've had the good fortune of singing II bass on this many times. It is probably one of the better things I've done in my life. Not in the sense that it is one of the better pieces I've sung (which it certainly is) but in the sense of bringing to others a small portion of God's infinite beneficence. Thank you Lord for Messr. Durufle.

  • i like that!

  • beautiful.

  • This song is so absolutely beautiful. I love it

  • this song absolutly takes my breath away. i am learnig it i girls choir and i can only pray that it sounds half as good as this but our choir is made up of mostly 1st and 2nd sopranos and the lowest section we have is alto like i said girls choir:(

  • so amazing...just takes my breath away. my choir is singing this right now (well learning it) and i can't wait to really preform it like this (i hope we sound as good at least) ^^ so amazing.

  • this is so beautiful.

  • I found this wiki translation, which helped me appreciate this piece even more (latin below): Where charity and love are, God is there. Christ's love has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him. Let us fear, and let us love the living God. And may we love each other with a sincere heart. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur. Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum. Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
  • I agree!

  • beautiful countertenor sound - great interpretation of a wonderful piece

  • One of the best performances of this piece ever...

    It brings my soul peace...

  • beautiful counter tenors, rich deep bassos.....heaven to my hears

  • Ubi Caritas I go on choir and we sing this song :)

  • Awesome video. I love just about anything by Durufle, ESPECIALLY this piece. It's the perfect depiction of deep emotions like sadness and joy.

  • i loooove this arrangement. and i love the sound of all boy choirs. amazing. :)

  • does anybody know the name of the choir singing?

  • Look in the video description.

  • Exquisite! One of my most favorites in college and still today. It was also sung at my wedding many years ago.... oh, the memories. Thank you for posting this - just what I needed to hear. :)

  • gah I love the countertenors! they have stunning voices! beautiful piece, too

  • Growing up, this was one of my favorite hymns to sing in my Church choir (Which was one of the last few all male choirs in Canada). I started singing there when I was 6 and sang there even after my voice changed. This song brings back many memories.

  • Oh they just used little children for the higher parts

  • Is there anything wrong with that? These 'little children' as you so patronisingly put it, are extremely talented boys, many of whom will go on to become talented organists or choral directors/scholars in their own right.

Most recordings of this piece use 'old women' to sing the top line. This uses trebles instead of sopranos, there is a difference. They are not just 'little children' warbling away, out of tune and out of time, but highly trained and talented singers.

  • I didnt say anything bad i just said they used little children i mean they arent adults or teenagers are they? would you like me to call them Highly Skilled children Protgists?

  • I am willing to bet a great deal that you can't sing half as well as these "little children".

  • I probaly cant but what does that have to do with me calling them children? it is what they are isnt it?

  • I still personally like when they used woman parts for the higher parts but thats just me

  • The choir was created 600 years ago and is continuing the fine British choral tradition to this day. Women are not permitted in the choir, as is the case in most of the elite British liturgical choirs. That is why you sound ignorant when you say children.

  • But still they are children and does not change that fact at all, yes they are highly skilled thats easy to recognize.

  • I don't think that aerialaces21 said anything wrong. He/she didn't mean to cricticise anybody. He/she just meant that this video is special because it uses trbles or boys soprano) instead of girls and women. Yea, so I don't think he/she deserve such a big fire back.

  • is this an all men music and why do they need music this is a rather short song?

  • They need music because they perform vastly different repertoire of this calibre every day of the year at Evensong. They aren't concert entertainers...

  • The piece is written SATB- it's meant to be sung by both men and high voices (in most cases women, here treble boys). And I agree with pointmastae.

  • this song is amazing

  • My Goodness! A piece composed by a Frenchman...in the Anglican tradition...sung in Latin...performed by those most brilliant masters of the King's College Cambridge Choir...Perfection!!!

  • Did you guys know that Dudley Moore was offered the position of organist at King's back when he was just getting started, but that he said no, in that he wanted to pursue his acting career....?

  • Moore was organ scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford - I don't believe that he ever had any connection with King's College, Cambridge where David Willcocks succeeded Boris Ord as Director of Music in 1957.

  • well HUMPH!!!

    Fine!

    Rain on my parade!

I'd always heard that Moore was intended for King's----but i DID know that he was at Magdalen College----watch the movie "Arthur"

He plays the piano fabulously for a spell!

    Martin

  • Pure Music! As if the angels were singing it themselves. Beautiful.

  • so amazing

  • No creo que se pueda encontrar mejor interpretación de esta obra.

  • As we left our Maundy Thursday meal of vegetarian soup, cheese, olives, bread and wine and grapes, we went into the church singing this anthem. Maundy Thursday is one of the most beautiful services in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition. Nothing is more powerful and emotional than the altar being stripped as the choir chants the lamentation of

    Psalm 22.

  • psalm 22 is an amazing psalm i love singing it!!! i pressume u use the s.s wesley chant??

  • i just sang this piece in a church today... this is a very powerfull song ... i like it a lot

  • Matchless,transcendent,sublime!

  • Only after this world has past and we are among the Angels in heaven will we ever hear anything better.

  • a wonderful example of one of the best choirs around
