  • Hey Em!! I dont know how I didn't see this vide!!!!!! Is very Interesting!!!

  • I just wanted to say thanks for this video! I have three collie cross foster puppies (now 10 weeks old) and although we aren't using a clicker this is working so well. These are TEN WEEK OLD PUPPIES sitting and waiting patiently: youtube.com/watch?v=9_OWJmRo-MI

  • Im trying to train my dog she is a lab mix W/ a husky and she's a handful. I can hardly do anything with her because she is too wild... What do i do???

  • tug :D cigo :) splash :((

  • thank you i just got a girl jack russel and i named her athena shes learning slow! but we'll get there

  • I swear my puppy is deaf. I can say her name over and over and she just looks for the treat. It is very frustrating. All these dog training videos are the same. The dogs already know what to do.

  • Is it useful to use the dogs name as the "come here" command? Because I usually don´t use names of animals unless I want them to come!

  • Great video

  • @thigg805 Thanks :)

  • @Ziporist Wheat.

  • @ThatTastyJuiceBox haha yes I think he is :)

  • What treat are you using? I just got a 4yr old dog but he's very lazy.. He he pays attention when I have a little bit of hot dog but he won't do anything for it.

  • my dog is two years old and noone tried to teach the dog to listen. is it too late to start now?

  • Every time I call my cousins dog: prancer, in which now is becoming more repetitive, he looks at me and stops, but then as I pat my hands or come towards him he goes the opposite way... I don't wanna force him to come with me, he's not my dog. But I am doing some training sessions with him in the mornings now and I think I need some help here... Please?

  • I just bought a german shepard yesterday. He is 6 weeks older. When I should start to do this tricks on him?Is it to early to call him by his name? I wanna name him BART :D. Is that a good name?Anyone can give me another name ideea?Thank you

  • love splash:)

  • what's the treat your giving them?

  • Comment removed

  • Hi Kikopup, i love your videos. I have a question for you though, I just adopted a dog from a shelter and Im expecting him to come home after his neutering in a couple days. I was wondering what should be the first thing to teach him? His name, to sit/stay, or idk, what should I do?

  • Great video. We have 7 dogs; see what i reached so far. Greatings.

  • thankzzzzz

  • when i start watching ive think there is one dog, when i look better there are 2?? :DD

  • hi my dog is suilka i think is the name and 1 month old can i train him or wait

  • So great how you explain things and really are consistent in which behaviour you are reinforcing (for example your mark that you don't give Tug attention when he jumps up and you only give him the treat when he has 4 paws on the ground). I hope you 'conquer' the world with your dog training :)

  • You are amazing ! thank you for your videos I am geting a husky puppy your videos are geting me ready for my coming puppy

  • give splash more treats! he's cute!

  • I have a new puppy that I got for xmas. He's a joy. My husband and I are taking him to puppy training once a week; which is great but In addition I have been watching your videos. I really love your style and delivery in training and teaching us how to do the training. Thank you for sharing your education and knowledge with us...so helpful.

    AW

  • What breed is Tug? Is she a mix or something?

  • i have a siberian husky and he doesnt listen, i really want to teach him his name, and what kind of snacks should i use?

  • @lowes2712 You can just use their food as a treat. Usually they don't know the difference. They love to work for their "treats" and I just use my puppy's food [:

Otherwise you can use actually dog treats. Like beggin'strips

  • HI, I WATCHED OTHER VIDEOS ON YT ON THIS SUBJECT I WASN'T FOND OF THEIR TECHNIQUES. I STUMBLED ACROSS YOUR VIDEO AND I LOVE IT, ITS ACTUALLY DOABLE. I SUBCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL BECAUSE OF THIS VIDEO. THANK-YOU.

  • they don't need to take matters into their own "paws"! :)

  • see. my problem is that i have a bullmastiff chow mixed puppy. shes 2 months and sum odd days old. and i try to do the attention thing. say her name and wait for her to look at me. but she doesnt look. just grazes contact and then goes and lay down sum where. wut do i do about that?

  • @66sucks You can pick her back up and start petting her then try again. She will most likely look at you this time because she thinks she will get petted. Then when she realizes she'll get a treat she'll look at you when you call. And that's where the training begins :DD

  • @blondi6292 yea. i got her to learn how to sit and lay down within 2 weeks. it took me a week to teach her her name. and after that she learn the other 2 things. she knows what no means, what drop it means, and come. all within a month, almost 2 months since ive had her. the only real problem is the potty training. she knows to go out side but she doesnt like to poop outside. weird isnt it?

  • Hi Kikopup! Isn't this the same as teaching the positive interrupter? With both all you want is the dogs attention e.g. eye contact. So what is the real difference? When do i use its name or the positive interrupter noise? Thnx

  • does it matter how old they are?

  • @lilalfredo59

Well it depends, if they are too young, sometimes they lack the attention and patience that an older dog has, thats why you should only start trainning your dog a certain age.

The younger age is mostly for you to know your dog, adapt to him and him to you, for both of you to start creating a bond.

  • great video :) But wouldnt the dog after a while respond like "Where is my treat?" Everytime you call him his name?

  • Kiko and splash are amazing. i love how splash acts all mature when u're constantly giving treats to kiko and tug(is the name right). Splash is like "oh its ok... she'll give me one too..." Adorable.....

  • You are amazing!! I stumbled across your videos looking for a way to help the very shy shelter dog we adopted a few days ago, and I think I love you. It's so wonderful to see someone using gentle, effective methods to train dogs, and I've been watching your videos, one after another, for the last 2 hours. You are a remarkable person; thank you for sharing!

  • i just got a 6 month old fox hound from the pound.they give them names there but they dont teach them their name.i saw how to teach a dog their name on it's me or the dog. this vid is very helpful and easy.thank you sooooo sooo much :)

  • Thanks so much! I just adopted a dog from the shelter and will use this technique so he may learn his new name :)

  • When I tell my border collie to sit when hes laying down he just stares at me how do I make him get back up (you can email me at moonshinegirl77356@yahoo.com)

  • Question.... How do u get the dogs to sit around u in the 1st place? My pup just wanders off to his own business.....

  • You are great!!!!

I'm far from has good has you . But learning . Thank you!

  • Your video doesn't tell me anything of how to rename my puppy his name

  • @BunnyTigerMeow You say the dogs name and then feed him a treat right after you say it! You are right I never actually "said" it, I only showed me doing it. I guess I sometimes forget to explain!

  • @BunnyTigerMeow gud one..

    LOL:)

  • wow your a great trainer!!

  • i got a new dog, and she had an old name.. but i don't know what it is, i'm trying to teach her new name, but she wont listen because of her old name... what should i do...

  • @XxKinoWolfxX Say the name, then feed a treat, and repeat. When you say the name after a bit of training, the dogs should look at you attentively.

  • thanx this helped me alot with my new dog rosey im going to try it out now

  • wow this is very usefull!! im getting my new pitbull puppy on thursday next week and im gunna name him dozer!!!!

  • Master Roshi!!!!

  • VERY very great video. Thanks!

  • very useful i have a new puppy¡¡

  • Another amazing video.

You make the training so matter of fact.

    Clear, simple, and fantastic results.

    Carole x x

  • thank you for bringing up food guarding in a helpful way.

  • how do you teach your dog not to compete for the foods

  • how do u train it to not compete for the food

  • How to teach beck and call for emotional distressed humans.

  • What an amazing video! I can't wait until I have another dog to practice this with. :) Splash, Kiko, and Tug are so cute! 5*s and a fav!

  • thats a great point...my dogs chico and chikita always compete for food. Chico is afraid to even eat around Chikita so what I do is I feed them one at a time. I wish I had more space but I live in a two bedroom apt. Thanks for the tip.

  • thank you for another outstanding video!! Tug is super cute :D

  • Amazing as usual!

  • AMazing video!! Love your tips!

  • Thanks for this video. I have a new puppy in my pack. I have been dealing with the situation you described. I have noticed some changes in my other dogs recently regarding food, so I will use this method to help them get more comfortable with the new puppy. Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • Great video! :)

  • Nice!

  • Do you think older dogs should be ok with learning? I have what seems to be a 7-year-old terrier mix and an 11 or 12 year old golden mix who both passed basic obedience, but don`t do anything quite as 'on command' as I`d hope. Any distraction or precise movement and tone and they just ignore you. Do you think with time they could behave so keenly or would you think their age would make them less prone to developing?

  • Nice video, Emily.

    Tug is a cute puppy

  • Another great vid full of tips!

  • Excellent video emily...i also work like this with any new dogs i bring into my group.. I currently have 3, but have had up to 4. I tend to do this exercise sat in the comfort of the settee to start with then progress it to being in different positions. I always wait for eye contact before rewarding and proof the name and eye contact by moving the treat visually about and clicking for maintenance of the eye contact when i say their names.

  • you always make such EXCELLENT videos! thank you : )

  • Great video. I would have never thought that you can teach a dog it's name by as you would a trick... it makes sense, I can't believe I never thought of it before.

Also Tug is a cute name! For the longest time we called Ember baby because we didn't know what to name her lol.

  • cool video emily. I really enjoyed when you said the name and the command kiko sit. love all your videos. You are such a great trainer...

  • I have three dogs, whenever one dog gets attention...my bigger dog attacks it, how do I stop this from happening? Now the other dogs are afraid whenever we try to give them attention because once we do, the other dog attacks it. She doesn't bite them but barks at the extremely loud right next to their ear.

  • BTW, I also loved the "ignoring the jumping" demonstration!

  • Yes, I too thought that was a really great bonus demo!

  • Great video again!!! I'll be posting to Facebook. I also have the same question as goldentwilight1.....I think if my dog was as close as Kiko and Splash were, she'd sit when you told either of them to sit. How did you train them to only sit when you said their name?

  • Very useful, helpful tip. It's so great for Tug to have such wonderful role models in Kiko & Splash!

  • great video. Very useful information.

  • great video

  • hey Emily, great video...i was currious, what breed is Tug? he is one of if not the cutest puppy i have ever seen!

and in response to golden twilight's question below, i believe you should condition your dog by always always stating his/her name before a command that way they can differentiate between a command issued to another or themselves...happy training

  • Yay! I needed this tutorial really badly. My dogs know their names, but they don't really respond as well as I'd like. Plus, they both have issues with competing for food. Especaily Kai.

  • Great video! But if I say ,,Bingo(my friends dog) sit!'', my dog sits too. What shoul I do if I want one dog to sit?

  • @goldentwilight1 I guess the best way would be to retrain your dog to learn to sit right after you say his name and say Sit, instead of just sit.

  • very helpful thank you so much!

  • Love all your videos!

  • Yet another great video! Love your tips and ideas! =)
