Not Ritchie's best performance... he misses a bunch of notes on the solo. Still extremely enjoyable to watch one of the best live! Thanks for the video.
Good job but, sadly enough, all this is is another show of how Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore can't put aside personal hatred of each other for the betterment of Deep Purple. All that was gained from this period is redoing old material.
@Muinaismuisto can u tell me exactly which one??? I searchedfor Säkkijärven Polkka and I found a melody that sounds in the same style but not quite the same song
I just watched a version of this from JFMetal that must be from the Straight Between the Eyes Tour that clearly has at least one female backup vocalist so perhaps on this version the female voice is a backup either offstage or not shown during the video.
He's got two favourite Strats, both just pretty cruddy late 70s ones he's customised, scalloping the fretboard. The one he was most often seen with had Seymour Duncan SSL4 Quarter Pounder pickups fitted, but this one's fitted with Fender-Lace Sensors.
You're right about most of that but there's more to what he's done with the fretboard than what you said. He scalloped the top 3 strings up to the 7th fret just lightly and the bottom 3 strings he has extremely lightly scalloped up the the 7th. And beyond the 7th he has them alot deeper but the same sort of setup with the top and bottom 3 strings. That's at least what I encountered when I played the Ritchie Blackmore signature strat. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
It's called a progressive scallop, and the reason he didnt scallop it as much at the first couple frets is because scalloping is bad for chording since if u oush harder one string it will make a different sound. But the scallop varies from guitarist to guitarist. If you look at yngwies guitar, he's got it completely scalloped but he never uses chords, and ritchie blackmore doesnt really use any chords past the first couple of frets.
yesthis was the last rainbow run befoe ritchie stopped plaing hard rock about 98 or so. Doogie is a good singer did a great version of temple of the king

The guitar solo is a Finnish folk melody, Säkkijärven Polkka. Very popular with harmonica players.

@zaqwert777 Yes, specially if you consider Malmsteen is a huge fan of Blackmore´s work

jet to jet is copied from this song. Spotlight kid was recorded 2-3 years before Jet to jet

the higher frets are lighter scalloped than the lower frets..and the low strongs (EAD) are scalloped heavier than the high strings (GBE)
