I have some great slides of that show. I was there. I didn't bring a chair. Just my Canon camera with a telephoto lens and moved around. Got some real close ups of everyone in the show.
I was there for the show. I enjoyed it very much. I was almost center stage, 2 rows back. I wish that the entire Rose Garden show was available on video. I served with Sub Unit 1, 3rd FSR Bulk Fuel, Task Force Delta.
My family and thousands of Hmong families were refugees here in 1975 after the US left this base. The Pathet Laos and Vietminh took over Laos in 1975.
I think I saw my Dad there too in one of the last few seconds of the video, he used to tell a story about going to the head one morning and out from under a leaf came a cobra, didn't need to go to the head anymore after that.... thanks to whom ever put this up....Semper Fi!
My older brother was a Marine stationed at Nam Phong. He wrote to us and told us to be sure and watch the Bob Hope special as he thought he might be on it. The entire family, friends, and neighbors gathered around to watch the show. He told us he was sitting next to a Marine holding a puppy. Sure enough there he was (0:48)! It was a real thrill for all of us because back then it was the only time we saw him.
cool I was stationed there guarding the 'Army Air Force,' Ammo Dump Area!--This was our;' Combat Operation with "Task Force Delta-"---Combat Battalion=Co-D,9TH MAR-3RD MAR Div...plus Mag 15-1st MAW-Task Force Delta--this is a very cool Video!
I was there also. 2nd row center stage, but not on tape. It was a great show, but only 5 minutes worth made it on TV. I was with Bulk Fuel, Sub Unit 1,3rd FSR, Logistic Support Group, Task Force Delta. OO-RAH!
Brings mr right back to the hootches, the flight line, surreal sunsets of purple and gold, the great relief of the field showers. MATCU-62, we lived on the wrong side of the perimeter and saw every plane home safely. Paul Stockton, Griffin, Lucuis- are you out there men.?
I was there with 232 as we came from DaNang in June '72. I stayed 'till Jan '73. This was a good show given to us near Chritsmas time. We have a small web site at namphong.com which shows a few pictures of the base thru all it's stages from living in the dirt to living high on the hog in "hardback" hooches and having "6 holers". We have a members only Yahoo group at groups.yahoo.com/group/namphong/ .... we'd like to see all 'Phongers come aboard. ... Bill
was there from sept 72 till the end in sept73....reme4mber watching Bob Hope show when i was younger hoping to see my cousin..and here i am in 72 watching Bob and his babes with Red Foxx and Lola ....what a time we had
I was there in 72 attached as a sargeant in charge of loading C-130s at the base with the Air Force for six months. I was on the airfield offloading Bob Hope, his wife, Red Fox, Lola Fallona, and the girls, what a great show. Was there when we were told the base was going to be hit and all the lights went out on base. Found out you Marines found the mortars aimed at the base. We were sitting about 100 yards from the fuel bladders and just up from the A-1s and F-4s. 2nd tour 73-74. Bdeacongreg02
Your exactly right, I was at this show. I had no idea this video existed until now. Wow has it been 35 years? I know that Bob Hope was right, I was missing Danang already. I am 56 now so mossmc7, you are right on the money. Not as lean and not as mean, but still a Marine. I probably wouldn't recognize myself if I could find myself. I know got to sit right up front stage right.
wow this is cool clip. Just wondering any of these guys would get a chance to watch this clip now. I guess they're probably in the 50's-60's now. I'm from KK Thailand and I'm now in the U.S.
Thanks for posting, great memories.

My father was there. Not too sure when but I believe it was around this time frame. Any of you know Larry Whittington, jet mechanic?
