@fl333r It is Tywin, he hates Tyrion but since Tyrion really doesn't do anything harmful except make it clear he loves whores Tywin can't cut him off without it affecting the Lannister reputation. Doing nasty stuff to your own family without sufficient cause is lowed down upon by the Nobility.
I loved this. The only thing I disliked about the books was how Tyrion battled unrealistically well (even if you account for his expensive armour). And its a brilliant way to keep the budget low and focus on what is truly important, not the battles (they skipped 2 just in this scene) but the preparations at the twins and the aftermath. The battles where fixed from the start (like most battles in the book... and real life) and would have been unintresting to watch anyway.
I'm really waiting for the battle of Blackwater. GRRM himself said they are spending huge amounts of money for it and have an expert of some sorts directing it.. and maybe this time Tyrion gets to use his axe? :D
I think it kind of works that they didn't show the battle. By merely showing the end results, it's left to our imaginations to decide what happened. Besides, if they really did do some sort of epic Return of the King scale battle, they'd run out of money. Same reason they didn't bring a hundred horsemen during Robert's hunt, especially since him, Renly and Barristan were the only characters in that scene who mattered.
I would shit my pants whe a guy like shagga charging me and scream: I GONNA FEED YOUR MANHOOD TO THE GOATS!!!!!:And le last thing i see are his fucking awsemome axes
In the book he manages to headbutt a horse to death. Obviously they didn't have the budget for a real battle scene. Makes me worry for the Battle of the Blackwater in season 2's finale.
@Idonthaveanamelol THat would've been lame. And I think it was the bes chouice to not have long dull big war scenes. Leaving it for the imagination. It would take too long to make it interesting and would make imbalance in the plot progression.
Indeed it was because of budget, but they had a decent budget to make the first season look fairly good... and believe me, after the Season 1 boxset on DVD and Bluray comes for sale, they will have a quite nice budget to fund Season's 2 battle scenes ;)
Tyrion's strength has always been his mind, not his body. And let's be honest, the show could use more humor. Someone getting knocked unconscious and trampled is about as close they get to a laugh (save for Tyrion's eel-milking confession). So let's not bitch about the lack of characteristically-unrealistic inspiringly heroic battle montages.
I'm actually kind of glad HBO changed it, since Tyrion always seemed like an impossibly good warrior whenever there was a battle (especially considering he has little to no prior experience at the start of Book 1). The TV series seems to pin his character down better for me: it shows his cunning when he uses the shield as a weapon during the journey to the Vale, and it shows his courage when he runs into the battle with his small army. It doesn't make him out to be some great warrior he's not.
The reason they changed this scene wasn't because they wanted to show Tyrion as a coward, but because their budget wouldn't allow them showing a huge battle. Blame economics, not change of opinion.
I hope they rectify this. There are some huge battles coming up in season 2 and season 3.
I guess they figured in would be too difficult to choreograph. I liked the scene in the book since it showed how Tyrion took the time to train with Lannister weapon masters when he was younger even though he is a dwarf and it makes him look even more badass.
Watch the show and buy the DVDs. That will give the show a bigger budget and we can see some bigger battles in the coming seasons. Crying on youtube isn't going to do anything.
In the book, he commanded half a flank, chopped off heads with an axe and captured a knight. In the end, when he met with his father, it turned out he had performed better than expected.
And later on, he fights more battles and chopps off more heads.
@mauriciomgvieira well not like a coward but like a very unlucky guy , he was up to the task anyhow. But yes it would have been awesome to see him capture the knight he captures in the books :D
@mauriciomgvieira There aren't alot of things changed, some scenes are cut down, one chapter in the book could equal three scenes in the TV series but one scene explains the point well enough.
Nearly all of the chapters are in the show, the only thing they added was singular scenes of non POV characters such as Kingslayer, Varys, Littlefinger, the king.
@mauriciomgvieira not really a coward, he actually was gonna go to fight, just that he got knocked out, although yes, his fights are way more badass in the books, but they had to do many budget cuts and also because it would cover a lot of time that they decided to use for the scene with him, bronn and shae, wich developed the characters more
@kreeperrock yea but G.RR M said himself in his twitter that the blackwater bay battle isn't going to be as grande as it was describe in the book. So probably expect more of seeing Davos's facial expressions as the battle unfolds lol.
It's fine though, the story is what really drives the show anyway not the battles.
This means when Tyrion leads the charge at the Blackwater, it will be that much more cooler.
"You won't hear me shout out Joffrey's name. You won't hear me yell for Casterly Rock either. This is your city Stannis means to sack, and that's your gate he's bringing down. So come with me and kill the son of a bitch!!"
@mauriciomgvieira He intended to fight.. It's not like he hid in his tent. He was knocked out. It really doesn't matter that he battled or not, his intention was to fight. I didn't see him as a coward after this scene.
@mauriciomgvieira I hear that for the most part they remained very faithful to the books compared to other book based shows/movies... *cough*legendoftheseeker*cough*...
@mauriciomgvieira He said that he was changing things to try and improve it. Things that he wished hed written differently hes fixing. To be honest I think it works well. Both the book and the series have things that are positive and negative about them but over all both work well for their medium.
They didn't have enough money to do a proper fight scene, so they changed it to this instead =) They made a lot of changes that they didn't want to make, but had to do because of resources available.
@mauriciomgvieira sometimes they change things early to affect things later which will be good changes.. even tho he came off like a coward in this scene, it might affect something that happens later in a way that pleases fans. its too early to tell. but regardless, what is the problem anyway? the tv show doesnt have to be word-for-word with the books... why do you want to see the same exact story played out? this is the director's vision. like LOTR in a way
@mauriciomgvieira yeah, im reading the books too, but i think its for the better. we all know that tryion is no fighter. He hasnt even used a sword in the whole first season and he is one of my favourtite characters. he doesnt need to fight, he just needs to be Tryion
@mauriciomgvieira What adaptions don't *severely* change from the source material? Tyrion is an imp who uses words instead of swords, he said that himself. George R.R. Martin practically defiled his own character using him in the battle and going against what his character really is. You can't take these changes seriously.
@mauriciomgvieira He never got to fight, so how did he fight a coward? I have read the books, the changes that where made arnt that big. This scene was the only real disapointment, and they had to throw Stannis in season 1 to make it easier to understand.
@mauriciomgvieira I actually expected them to have made more changes than they did. If you compare this series to other series that are based on books the Game of Thrones series is remarkably close to the books
