The controls are shit I played this game since release and to be honest the controls are extremely loose and unresponsive it doesn't feel nearly as good as wow. The story telling really doesn't match the mmo type either. I love bioware but this game is just a means to an end, I don't see it lasting more than 2 years or so until a real mmo that does it different comes out
i hated this game broken pvp ea made a profit so they split sucks really they could of had something special ruined it with a repetitive story and dull design.
KNEW IT! I always said that SWtOR would be WoW in space ever since seeing the first gameplay footage. ^^ That said, people say WoW and WAR are the same, but there's some major gameplay objectivity differences.
I bought the super expensive version (Collectors Edition) and it didn't contain a product registration Key so now i am fucked and spent 161$ for NOTHING. Customer service is a joke.
SWTOR is pretty much just like the spiderman, batman, james bond etc. movies. Even if you know that they most of the time aren't well made or worth watching, you will watch the next just to see if it has improved. Unfortunately, if you do not like it, there are no refunds, of course, and the producers count every viewer as satisfied anyway, and produce the next... So people will play SWTOR just because of Star Wars and it's "decent quality", even if it is generic and the same old stuff.
@SHOCKERownerR Right, because MMOs are "new and innovative", they're the same thing, third person, button/ability bar, warfronts/battlegrounds/warzones, leveling, gear grinding, instances/dungeons, PVE, PVP, same thing. Now, I have the game, collector's edition, I like it, I play it, I think the review saying "this wasn't really new and innovative" is a stupid comment. It's a different genre/style, sure, but no mmo is going to be "new and innovative" was my point, thus the review is stupid.
@SHOCKERownerR I'm not going to cry, I play the game, the review is dumb, saying it wasn't new and innovative. It is, but it isn't at the same time, understand? derp
@atom1cs Yep I totally understand ya and I have to say you're pretty much right, but I do not think new MMO's can't be inovative. As I said, check out Continent of the Ninth. Check the combat. It's so much better than SWtOR, WoW or any other MMO. It actually takes a lot of skill. I do agree with ya, SWtOR is a really great game, but not as inovative as it could be for its price. You have to admit its pretty expensive and doesn't offer much new stuff(I'm talking about combat only).
@Antioxidantt Sure you can. Just like in this video. But it's not a news show then. There's no need to be impartial in order to do so.
Yes, I could have replied like you said, but I'm not 13 years old and not a big fan of the game either, so an opinion like the one presented here doesn't upset me.
Granted i didnt get to play in the beta but i will definately be playing SWTOR. Personally i prefer to play the Star Wars universe over Azeroth anyday. I gave 5 years to Blizzard and ive had enough. See you all ingame!
I would say up to a 5 dollar discount for online sales, encourage it, but still give stores a chance, this way the company can still make money for future projects while us gamers can save some money
As for what the price should be? I would make it cheap enough to discourage in-store sales, but not so cheap that the publisher makes little money. I'm sure with some testing, publishers can find the best price that gives them the most profit at the lowest cost.
Remember, when games are cheaper, more people buy them, so the extra profits from more sales on top of the savings from selling digital will probably far outweigh the reduced costs.
Either way, price should be determined by the market
I agree that digital games should be MUCH cheaper. If the prices are the same, I'd rather buy it in a store just to get the in-print manuals and such, even if I'm not going to use them much. I would just feel cheated not getting the physical discs and manuals if I had to pay the same amount.
I agree with Force 100%. Everything Force said is true. It's not a bad game, but it's similarities to WoW or Rift or any modern MMO are too great to ignore. From what I've played, I give it an 8/10.
The whole time I played, I just wanted a single player version of it with more indepth combat and less time-sinks.
Star Wars is overhyped. Last weekend, I was playing it and I actually stopped and kept playing Skyrim, regardless of the fact that my beta key was going to expire. I just wasn't that into.
Is it better than WoW when it was first released? Sure. Is it high quality? Sure.
The problem is that besides the story, it's the same old boring gameplay and timesinks. Once you play one MMO, you've sort of played most of them. It's boring.
@egervari While I agree that MMO's have a similar play-style such an argument is not unique.. Comparing SWTOR to WoW is exactly the same as comparing the Battlefield and Modern Warfare series, same genre, different game. It's consumer choice as to which game systems they prefer, but genre evolution simply isn't the point. SWTOR presents a story-based MMO, that's the only change.
Maybe with the next gen of MMO's we will see a difference, but why change the genre if the demand isn't there?
@lifeprophet2002 Well, the difference, I think, between MMOs and other genres is that people have sunk 5000 hours into an MMO and only 20-60 hours into an average game. I think some people are just getting burnt out with the genre. There's only so much you can do the same things.
I am not saying it's a bad game, but I do think it's over-hyped, and I don't think it should be granted awards and the highest praise. It's a fairly good/competent game and nothing more.
@lifeprophet2002 I also think people's expectations of Bioware are higher than the average MMO developer. If anyone was going to make an MMO that was going to kill WoW and challenge the throne, it was Bioware. I've played SW:TOR though. It's a "safe" design.
There were just so many aspects to the game I wish were changed. It plays too much like WoW - to the point where it's WoW with a star wars skin. Rift can get away with that, but not a Star Wars game.
Savings from digital sales should, to at least some degree, compensate the consumer for losing out on a hard-copy of their game. That said, if the savings are split between buyer and publisher, I'm okay with that. However (and I think this is just good policy) all web-distributed games should have at least 5% discount to incentivise their purchase over hard-copies - meaning at least some corporate interests will be against pay-per-usage internet billing.
@BGDaemon I agree those things are good and successful & think no less of people who implement them(well) but it doesn't mean u can't do things differently.
DCUO, DDO(from what I hear), GW are pretty different for example. I also remember a game played some time ago that used some interesting Combo system (can't recall the name tho)
The Star Wars title doesn't sell it for me. I actually like Warcraft lore more (yeah, w/e... I'm crazy). I stopped playing WoW, though because I got tired of the gameplay. The low levels at least seem to have even less gameplay (skill/ability) diversity than WoW does. Fewer quests with unique mechanics too. :/
i appreciate this force feed but im still psched for the game. Here's why, I know for a fact that new innovative gameplay can only come from innovative companies, such as blizzard. Bioware will likely never create new innovative gameplay b/c their area of expertise is storytelling so I wasnt expecting them to make a MMORPG too different from WoW.
Well there some old sayings, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Or how about, "Don't mess with success."
Why does everything have to be innovative or new to the MMO formula? Sure they tweaked the EQ(2)/WoW systems a little to make it more personalized. But other than that I see very little reason for SWTOR to gamble with less successful MMO systems.
(What bugs me is that some want SWTOR to be more like Galaxies. Now that would be tragic.)
I've played two characters to 15+ and another to 12, and I'm super excited about the game. I'm a huge star wars fan, and I can't wait to finish the Sith Inquisitor storyline.
Its like WoW but not? So if The Old Republic is like WoW,then WoW is like Star Wars Galaxies, which is like Everquest which is like Ultima online.... Or thats like saying MW3 is better than MW2 since tey are FPS they are the same WTF!!!!
I don't think I have time for a new game like SWTOR but I am curious, as been a PvPer always, which new PvP elements SWTOR brings comparing to WoW. If you could point them out I would be grateful, thanks
I have a question for you what would you do to make the MMO genre more innovated. The MMO market has hit a wall because of the style of game a MMO is there isnt much more you can do to grow the industry. Even Guildwars 2 isnt that ground breaking yes you can dodge abilities and yes they have dynamic events but DE are still a form of questing kill X amount of X and the combat is still more like WoW theh unalike. lower your expectations and you wont be dissapointed there will be no innovative MMO
This game, to me, was Rift with lightsabers. Without the Star Wars theme I would have lost interest right away. That said, I already preordered the damn thing months ago, so I may as well play it now. I'm not sure how long it will last though. The mechanics were a bit annoying. The races you get to pick from were not incredibly familiar and all too similar to each other. I've never played WOW but I have played EQ, EQ2, GW, Rift, and at least 30 FTPMMOs. That said, SWKOTOR just does not stand out
I liked the SWTOR Beta, and I'm someone who normally detest MMOs... Though I may be a bit biased, because during "my youth" I tended to watch the original 3 movies, several times over. And It lets me be a trooper... Which is why Republic Commando was awesome.
Saying that SWTOR is like WoW is a redundant comment TBH. Its a MMORPG all MMORPG's are very very similar so you could compare it to pretty much any of them and be right. What sets MMO's apart is the world they are set up in and the actual content to be explored, emphasis on Raiding, grinding and PvP aspects are what make or break games of this genre. I have played MMo's since EQ1 and that was the only one that varied with very little emphasis on Quests since then all have had the same formula.
There is nothing really new or innovative in this game. It is exactly what so many predicted it would be, Warcraft gameplay and mechanics with a Star Wars wrapper, and predominately a single player experience with a few co-operative elements. This game is not an MMO...
this game looks cool but its very similar to wow. it has a good story line to it but hey why not just play diablo 3 then which looks amazing and isnt 15 bucks a month??
It certainly is overhyped I believe. However I can see the gameplay being a lot better than I initially though. The game is pretty innovative, but not gameplay wise. The story system looks pretty cool, but I'm still looking forward to Guild Wars 2 far more. Diablo 3 will definitely be the first game I buy next year.
Hey Force! When you go to the barbershop wich hairstyle you ask for? I always try to get something that looks like you haircut but the barber just never get it right! Really apreciate it if you could answer. Thanks!
I can't imagine SWTOR being as successful as WoW simply because Blizzard had the right game at the right time. MMOs were very new and they did their jobs very well in terms of production, marketing, etc. I feel that those times have passed, however, and it is more likely that we will have more online games with more equal market share. This is a good thing for gamers, as it provides variety. Of course, time may prove me wrong...
He is right you know. We just want an MMO thats decent in the star wars universe. Its just a simple fun game. Its no trend setter. I will be playing it. Not because I think its the best mmo ever, only because it isn't wow,and I love star wars.
I believe every MMO to come out from this point on is going to be a WOW clone, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. WOW made a huge impact in the MMO world, and every developer is trying to copy that. SWTOR is just that, a WOW clone. Any improvement to MMOs is going to be made by Blizzard, when Titan gets released in 2014. Until then, every MMO is a WOW clone. Just deal with it and move on
I cant wait for Star wars, I played the Beta and LOVED it . the story telling questing made My day and was doing quest for a story not just loot and xp, the gameplay being like WoW for me isnt a major issue since Its why I liked Wow in the first place. So a Game that has WoWs gameplay with a Much more fun story driven storyline that isnt yet another medieval setting with swords and dragons ...yep cant wait
Wow will never die, people invested to much time and money into the game to just quit for another game that's exactly the same game play. I am not looking foward to it because wow will be the only MMORPG that will be original.
@Stevelmao sorry but wow has never been original. I played it for 3 years and really enjoyed my time but it definately was not original then and it hasn't done anything since. It copied its characters a lot from Games Workshop, It copied previous MMO's in terms of gameplay. Only thing they did do is dumb it down some what and made it easily accessible for the mass market. I have no bad feelings towards WoW in fact i am glad it does so well its just not my game anymore.
SW:TOR ... Ehhh I don't think it's for me, maybe if game will have free test period and I will like it but maybe ...
For
PSN Digital Download new discounts ... I feel that it should be beneficial for both consumers and developer cuz cheaper games means tath more ppl can afford them more ppl afford them more of them will think and buy them means more money in long range plan
ppl can complain and talk shit about WoW and say that this is better but in the end no game can beat WoW there has been so many mmo's that ppl hyped up and they just failed and the same thing will happen here. Blizzard>Bioware meaning WoW>SWTOR
About SW:TOR: For, I was not expecting a whole new kind of gameplay style from the game, I was expecting a Hotbar-Ability-Based MMO, like most in the genre. With that being said my reasons for playing SW:TOR is that it's story based, that it is fully voiced over, its a Star-Wars Game, and of course that it's a Bioware Game... The story telling part for me is very new and innovative in the MMO genre.. Played WoW for 6½ years, never really had a problem with the Game-Play style, so not a concern.
i have played SWTOR and i must admit it is an awesome game! i love the story line of it i got up to lvl 35 in one weekend so i totally nerded out on the game
because i was looking for something to fill the wow voide i stoped playing wow about 6 months ago, SWTOR just feels like a single player story the problems i see is when players hit lvl 50. the space battle in the game is just awful though
I mean, you have to think about it. What other type of gameplay are you expecting from MMO? MMO's have only one type of gameplay, which really works. Even if you change it a little, it still will be pretty much the same thing, because this type of gameplay just suits MMO's so well. What kind of gameplay are you expecting? A fps? A driving game? Come on...
People were expecting some innovation in the gameplay from an MMO released so long after WoW. Even DDO, released in 2006, innovated quite a bit with how combat works in that game.
I quit WoW a long time ago because the gameplay got stale quickly. I'm not seeing anything in TOR I haven't seen before.
@SaigyoujiKodoku Majority of people don't play MMO for its gameplay innovations. People play it for the social interactions. If the game provides one, and the gameplay itself is decent enough, people will play it.
SWTOR is a WoW clone with some gimmicks to get people overhyped. It will be a huge success money-wise due to the sheer amount of die hard fanboys that have preordered it and will buy it in the future. This game will become free to play just like every other overhyped WoW competitor out there, mark my words.
@SeNsaToR Spoken like a true Brain washed WoW player. Try new things, don't label new mmos wow clones when you can't fix somethin that aint broke. I mean wow has done amazing stuff for mmo's and there isn't really anything needed to add to mmos . I mean shit look at what wow plans to do by adding BS pokemon duels.. I mean really? Talk about scraping the bottom of the MMO idea pot here...
Been playing WoW for too long and quit recently, so I have mixed feelings about TOR. The beta was pretty polished and the story is quite engaging, but the game play in between feels just like playing WoW. There are differences, but I am wondering if this is enough to keep me playing.
Star Wars had very familiar mechanics, it was mostly entertaining but on the same note it also felt like it was lacking. The game felt huge but at times I felt very lonely playing that game even with the grouping. I think the problem is the game is pretty linear when it comes to leveling. not many paths to choose from. not much exploring.
i started to play free wow, but after an hour or so, i got bored... vs. i played swtor 4 days and i relay enjoyed it. so for me the winner is swtor... just my opinion.. cant wait for early access :) could be nice to see some mmo in mass effect universe! :)
the big issue with downloading a copy of a game online is that you dont have a hard copy of your game. blizzard lets you download a copy of "most" copies of games they have recently released. thumbs up to them but i want a discount for not owning a cd and case for my cataclysm release. if i want to install it on a new computer i bought ill have to redownload it from their battle.net site.
I will definitely play SWTOR, I think I played 18h / day during the whole beta (friday - monday). It's a realy good game. It has similarities with WoW, but at the same time, BF3 has the same with MW3. It's the main gameplay of mmos and has been since before WoW. Sonic and Mario has similarities aswell. You can't judge a MMORPG for the gameplay looks like WoWs. SWTOR is a good, no not good, a great mmo, and I will play as long as possible!
games should be priced the same, digital or retail. you should basically get the digital version on a cd/dvd. any extra giveaways (maps, figures, etc) would be reason to raise the price on retail.
@liromyc no because i dont have to purchase anything from the company to download software. however if i buy something in a store i pay for the cd/dvd it comes on and the packaging. that being said if it saves me 5 bucks i'd be more than happy
And SWTOR has a different style with no auto attack, companions, better proffesions system and a better questing setup that keeps you interested in what's going on in the game besides just picking up all the quests and grinding them all out so you have nothing to do and then complain about lack of content. They don't make these huge enviroments with all this voice acting just so you can grind through it. MMORPG is about exploring and immersing yourself into a story.
I am sick of seeing people say this is like wow, this is like wow.. Stfu about wow... WoW was not the first MMO to be made, so by saying these new mmos are too much like wow is implying EverQuest was made based off wow wich isn't true. There isn't really anything that can be made to be different from the core of MMORPG. You either change the combat system that everyone has already accepted and hope it works or you keep it the way it is and just add a different spin on the gameplay.
@Zeturon i dont get what you are so angry about? To describe to others who have never played the game, the easiest thing to do is to reference something that everyone knows. Now is he wrong to reference wow? No. Because the gameplay is almost similar. Is that a bad thing? No its a good thing. WoW's gameplay was a notch up from traditional mmos. WoW introduced alot of good stuff. TOR following WoW's example isn't a bad thing! WHY WHY WHY the complaints
@moonshiry I'm angry about people saying no to a game because it is like wow, not saying that the game being similar to wow is bad just that people decide not to play because of that. I beleive it should be a bit similar only because wow has such a huge population that SWTOR needs to take some traits from wow to appeal to those playing wow so they get some of that fanbase that wow already has.
@moonshiry Why complaints? because there are people who dont play mmos and hated them before, so they were hoping for something bigger then "WoW mechanics" Bioware is not just aiming at mmo players, in fact they already said they aim to bring their fan base in first. They failed.
@antwasherewow It's only similar in the combat and even then it's different because there is no auto attack. I honestly think there isn't anything else you can do to make the combat of a new mmo different from past mmos because there isn't rly any need for a new combat system unless you added smarter AI wich SW actually did, I can use an aoe on a group of targets and they actually move out of it so they don't die, that right there is innovative and you don't see that in WoW, you just see HP Inc!
@moonshiry I played beta and I must agree with Force here, SWtoR is a lot like WoW but for me personally at least 100x times better. Maybe because of all that story-telling and what not, but I find it interesting. As for others, that are complaining; if you don't like it don't watch this kind of clips; just go back to whatever MMO you came from. Simple.
@Zeturon You have to understand that a lot of MMO players now days are younger. A lot of us started playing MMOs before their moms bought them PCs. So I see that they compair it to WOW. Although I dont see any comparison other than mechanics, but WOW invented nothing. They made the graphics so crapy and scaling suck so bad that anyone with a PC could play it. So naturally being the first MMO that grandma could buy a $400 PC for her grandson could play will get a lot of subscribers.
"it feels a lot like world of warcraft" - i played wow in classic/bc/wotlk but quit because the game changes in a way i dont like. i really hope swtor is going to be (from gameplay perspective) similar to the the old wow. :)
Gameplay looks like WoW with a new graphics engine and lightsabres, seriously. But what can you say really, they're going to make a lot of money off it
I absolutely think that the consumers should get the "discount". I can see it having a major upside for every1. People will probably download less pirated games (I know i will)
Almost with every game i "test" them out before buying them. & if they are great i buy them to support the developers. And if the prices were to go down with 40% i could afford to buy games from developers that make "decent" games & thereby support them so they can make better games.
I played the SWTOR beta and I have to agree with Force. The game is too much like WoW to peel people away from WoW. The only reasons it will attract people is because it's Star Wars and it has an interactive story done with cut-scenes. The story is mediocre at best kinda like the Star Wars prequels. I don't feel any emotional attachment to any characters or anything in the story which makes it boring most the time. This game won't last long at $15 a month which is sad to say.
I tried to watch some SWTOR playthroughs, but I just couldn't. The MMORPG style of play makes the environment feel crowded, which might be fine for a game like WoW, but is counter-immersive in the SW setting (instead of being THE hero, you're just one of MANY heroes, minimizing the psychological impact of the game).
As for digital publishing, ideally, the saving should be split evenly between purchaser and publisher, providing both with an incentive to support the release format. =^[.]^=
I played the beta as well and i'm really looking forward to swtor! WoW has recently become boring and i think it's ok that it feels like WoW in the basics. i think the story aspects are great and it looks great as well. And it's fucking STAR WARS! but if don't like the movies i can understand why your not that exited. but wait...you dont like star wars!? i can't understand that! ;)
I love starwars the story is very good i dont care that i have to loot items or kill some mobs star wars is new and beter then wow. Wow = boring it say for it self pokemon battels pls ....
well i think that SWTOR messed up as rift did, they made the game to similar to wow. I've noticed that alot of the mmo's are copying wow, taking blizz's idea making it similar. Rift copied wow, it was to similar. SWTOR looks like wow with a better story/dialogue. I'm actually waiting for guild wars 2, i cant wait for it. But i will still try SWTOR it looks worth a try.
2 million players with an average 12 hours a piece, so 24 million hours total, thats one million days or approx 2739.72 years spent playing the game in just the beta? i think that math is right...balls
I'm really looking forward to SWTOR, and I enjoyed the beta immensely. You are however correct that SWTOR is, in many ways, more of the same. Especially when we're talking combat and layout/questflow. To me, the game is still fresh enough and I was never expecting something entirely new. The game doesn't try re-invent the genre, but for what it does, it does it really well.
@Redcheat I don't see how is it NOT wow... There is not a single diffrence in anything. They even brainlessly copied the skill-tree system... it is so easy to change and upgrade, but they didn't even take an effort to change THAT. If they mindlessly copy such stupid thigs, you can be sure they would NEVER risk anything actually innovative. Everything will always stay the same as it is in WoW. But ofc it's all about money not about fun, and they know that WoW-kids are the majority ;]
I think the discount should go to the customers. Because if the games cost less you are more likely to buy it and of course you can buy other games with the money saved - especially indie games.
I think by giving the discount to the customers, developers will sell more copies and therefore make more money as if they would keep the discount to themselfes.
I agree with you Force. I know that SWTOR focused on trying to be original and add new elements, but to be honest it really is pretty similar to WoW. MMO's these days don't do anything amazingly different. Blizzard has set the bar for MMO's with WoW and it seems that all these other game design companies have accepted this bar as the standard and follow closely to it with small changes here and there. I'd really like to see something completely new in combat, story, leveling, everything in MMOs.
Haters gonna Hate... and GW2 will be better than SWTOR for me. And just for saying what will be my mmo i'm sure that everyone will thumb down my comment and mark it as spam... Haters gonna Hate.
It will not go to "upcoming projects", it will go to shareholders profits. If someone doesn't offer digital at 50% discount than he's stealing from you. More than half of the game cost is box and distribution (distributor gets his cut of course).
I would love a discount hell yeah. It's completely unreasonable to ask someone full price for a virtual version of the item. Hell Origin even charges you a fee if you have to re-download later. Not a sony fan in particular but good on them for taking a step up.
I'm sorry, I generaly like your videos but i had to dislike this one, why are you ditching SWTOR like that? It looks like its gonna be awesome and i didn't even like WoW
Ofcourse there are some differences between WOW and SWTOR but in general i get the feeling it is very similar compared to the approach GW2 is taking. GW2 will be the next big game for me.
Besides I never liked the idea of a Lightsaber not killing something instantly.....seriously the only really cool thing in SW.....
I just hate when ppl say that SWTOR is like WOW. Every MMORPG is a little like WoW. I mean wow is like the founding stone of MMORPG. Why try to make a completely new game and have it fail when you can take bite and pieces of another game and improve it?? Do you all remember Conan?? that game was the first of his kind and failed lamentably.
@BlackHowler616 IT IS . like World of Starwars whatever. people get all angry and flame over a comparison that its sooo damn obvious. I´d hope swtor would have a gameplay style closer to what Diablo 3 has shown, an action-mmorpg, it would suit SO much better with the star wars saga....
You say it's like wow but I've never seen a companion in WoW, I've never seen the customization of weapons go as far as SWTOR in WoW. I got to max level in WoW and didn't know 1 bit of lore. In the first 20 levels of SWTOR I felt like I was a critical asset to the world due to the well told story. Oh yea, I've never flown a space ship and shot lasers and missiles at other ships in WoW. Stop being stupid.

@atom1cs Cry. And go watch some Continent of the Ninth PvP gameplay videos. And see how wrong you were. And go cry again.

You have to admit its pretty expensive and doesn't offer much new stuff(I'm talking about combat only).

enjoy watching your show, keep it up
but I think you should decide whether you're doing...
a) a news show without expressing your own opinions or
b) your personal opinion/commentary about things going on
"the show where I keep you up to date to all recent gaming news and announcements" - that rather sounds like option a) to me
RealFungy 2 months ago in playlist Weitere Videos von ForceSC2strategy
@RealFungy so u cant keep people up to date and give your own opinion on it........oh wait u can and u sir are a moron

@Antioxidantt Sure you can. Just like in this video. But it's not a news show then. There's no need to be impartial in order to do so.
Yes, I could have replied like you said, but I'm not 13 years old and not a big fan of the game either, so an opinion like the one presented here doesn't upset me.

Either way, price should be determined by the market

egervari 2 months ago
I agree that digital games should be MUCH cheaper. If the prices are the same, I'd rather buy it in a store just to get the in-print manuals and such, even if I'm not going to use them much. I would just feel cheated not getting the physical discs and manuals if I had to pay the same amount.
egervari 2 months ago
I agree with Force 100%. Everything Force said is true. It's not a bad game, but it's similarities to WoW or Rift or any modern MMO are too great to ignore. From what I've played, I give it an 8/10.
The whole time I played, I just wanted a single player version of it with more indepth combat and less time-sinks.
egervari 2 months ago
Star Wars is overhyped. Last weekend, I was playing it and I actually stopped and kept playing Skyrim, regardless of the fact that my beta key was going to expire. I just wasn't that into.
Is it better than WoW when it was first released? Sure. Is it high quality? Sure.
The problem is that besides the story, it's the same old boring gameplay and timesinks. Once you play one MMO, you've sort of played most of them. It's boring.
egervari 2 months ago
@egervari While I agree that MMO's have a similar play-style such an argument is not unique.. Comparing SWTOR to WoW is exactly the same as comparing the Battlefield and Modern Warfare series, same genre, different game. It's consumer choice as to which game systems they prefer, but genre evolution simply isn't the point. SWTOR presents a story-based MMO, that's the only change.
Maybe with the next gen of MMO's we will see a difference, but why change the genre if the demand isn't there?
lifeprophet2002 2 months ago
@lifeprophet2002 Well, the difference, I think, between MMOs and other genres is that people have sunk 5000 hours into an MMO and only 20-60 hours into an average game. I think some people are just getting burnt out with the genre. There's only so much you can do the same things.
I am not saying it's a bad game, but I do think it's over-hyped, and I don't think it should be granted awards and the highest praise. It's a fairly good/competent game and nothing more.
egervari 2 months ago
@lifeprophet2002 I also think people's expectations of Bioware are higher than the average MMO developer. If anyone was going to make an MMO that was going to kill WoW and challenge the throne, it was Bioware. I've played SW:TOR though. It's a "safe" design.
There were just so many aspects to the game I wish were changed. It plays too much like WoW - to the point where it's WoW with a star wars skin. Rift can get away with that, but not a Star Wars game.
egervari 2 months ago
Telling us we've been force fed doesn't sound right... Maybe "force feeded," yah yah, much better
Abohnher 2 months ago
Savings from digital sales should, to at least some degree, compensate the consumer for losing out on a hard-copy of their game. That said, if the savings are split between buyer and publisher, I'm okay with that. However (and I think this is just good policy) all web-distributed games should have at least 5% discount to incentivise their purchase over hard-copies - meaning at least some corporate interests will be against pay-per-usage internet billing.

I have played MMo's since EQ1 and that was the only one that varied with very little emphasis on Quests since then all have had the same formula.
talonlan 2 months ago
There is nothing really new or innovative in this game. It is exactly what so many predicted it would be, Warcraft gameplay and mechanics with a Star Wars wrapper, and predominately a single player experience with a few co-operative elements. This game is not an MMO...

SoulCharter 2 months ago
I believe every MMO to come out from this point on is going to be a WOW clone, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. WOW made a huge impact in the MMO world, and every developer is trying to copy that. SWTOR is just that, a WOW clone. Any improvement to MMOs is going to be made by Blizzard, when Titan gets released in 2014. Until then, every MMO is a WOW clone. Just deal with it and move on

I have no bad feelings towards WoW in fact i am glad it does so well its just not my game anymore.

murdaout 2 months ago
About SW:TOR: For, I was not expecting a whole new kind of gameplay style from the game, I was expecting a Hotbar-Ability-Based MMO, like most in the genre. With that being said my reasons for playing SW:TOR is that it's story based, that it is fully voiced over, its a Star-Wars Game, and of course that it's a Bioware Game... The story telling part for me is very new and innovative in the MMO genre.. Played WoW for 6½ years, never really had a problem with the Game-Play style, so not a concern.

Star Wars had very familiar mechanics, it was mostly entertaining but on the same note it also felt like it was lacking. The game felt huge but at times I felt very lonely playing that game even with the grouping.

Zeturon 2 months ago
@Zeturon i dont get what you are so angry about? To describe to others who have never played the game, the easiest thing to do is to reference something that everyone knows. Now is he wrong to reference wow? No. Because the gameplay is almost similar. Is that a bad thing? No its a good thing. WoW's gameplay was a notch up from traditional mmos. WoW introduced alot of good stuff. TOR following WoW's example isn't a bad thing! WHY WHY WHY the complaints
moonshiry 2 months ago 17
@moonshiry I'm angry about people saying no to a game because it is like wow, not saying that the game being similar to wow is bad just that people decide not to play because of that. I beleive it should be a bit similar only because wow has such a huge population that SWTOR needs to take some traits from wow to appeal to those playing wow so they get some of that fanbase that wow already has.
Zeturon 2 months ago
@moonshiry Why complaints? because there are people who dont play mmos and hated them before, so they were hoping for something bigger then "WoW mechanics" Bioware is not just aiming at mmo players, in fact they already said they aim to bring their fan base in first. They failed.
DeidaraC5 2 months ago in playlist The Force Feed
@moonshiry It is a bad thing that SW:TOR is so similar to WoW, and Force just told you why.
antwasherewow 2 months ago
@antwasherewow It's only similar in the combat and even then it's different because there is no auto attack. I honestly think there isn't anything else you can do to make the combat of a new mmo different from past mmos because there isn't rly any need for a new combat system unless you added smarter AI wich SW actually did, I can use an aoe on a group of targets and they actually move out of it so they don't die, that right there is innovative and you don't see that in WoW, you just see HP Inc!
Zeturon 2 months ago

Hodja60 2 months ago
I absolutely think that the consumers should get the "discount". I can see it having a major upside for every1. People will probably download less pirated games (I know i will)
Almost with every game i "test" them out before buying them. & if they are great i buy them to support the developers. And if the prices were to go down with 40% i could afford to buy games from developers that make "decent" games & thereby support them so they can make better games.
+ we dont get a box or anything so yea
RobinMertsch 2 months ago
I played the SWTOR beta and I have to agree with Force. The game is too much like WoW to peel people away from WoW. The only reasons it will attract people is because it's Star Wars and it has an interactive story done with cut-scenes. The story is mediocre at best kinda like the Star Wars prequels. I don't feel any emotional attachment to any characters or anything in the story which makes it boring most the time. This game won't last long at $15 a month which is sad to say.
antonab1 2 months ago

And it's fucking STAR WARS! but if don't like the movies i can understand why your not that exited. but wait...you dont like star wars!? i can't understand that! ;)

well i think that SWTOR messed up as rift did, they made the game to similar to wow.

I love the game. A shame you dont but you cant love all games i guess. I gotta say that its not WoW. For me its not even close.

Why so many dislikes? Because he stated what swtor was like?
If you have played quite a few mmo's you would agree with him. The gameplay is just very much the same as all mmo's of the last years.

SWTOR - shit

I think the discount should go to the customers. Because if the games cost less you are more likely to buy it and of course you can buy other games with the money saved - especially indie games.
I think by giving the discount to the customers, developers will sell more copies and therefore make more money as if they would keep the discount to themselfes.

I used to play MMOs but then i took an arrow the knee

More than half of the game cost is box and distribution (distributor gets his cut of course).
pacinpm2 2 months ago
I would love a discount hell yeah. It's completely unreasonable to ask someone full price for a virtual version of the item. Hell Origin even charges you a fee if you have to re-download later. Not a sony fan in particular but good on them for taking a step up.

I'm sorry, I generaly like your videos but i had to dislike this one, why are you ditching SWTOR like that? It looks like its gonna be awesome and i didn't even like WoW
TheInkSpoots 2 months ago in playlist The Force Feed

@bogdangavriel but it is like WOW... stop being offended by this.
BlackHowler616 2 months ago 7

SWTOR is not the game the trailers portrayed it to be. I highly doubt I will be playing it.
