Im not sure if i should get a vox vt30 or a Vypyr 30 i play mostly metal, but i heard that the vox isent nearly as good as metal as the vypyr, is that tru?

Nahh it will be perfect :).i play with 2.0mm and it is great but 1.2 will be just right for him i think, but 0.6 is to thind.
