Doesn't the 335 have about the same horsepower? it's around 300 if i'm correct. I mean, It's not that big of a difference. Probably the biggest things that matter here is the weight of the cars and the BMW being rwd and the porsche being awd

If you buy a Porsche (or any other sportcar) whitout a manuel gearbox you probably have a lot of money and just want to show it, for an enthusiast or anyone who likes do drive there is no substitut for a manuel !!!

well i was betting on 335i. The carrera has a 4x4 tranny so it must loose lots of power on high speed but i don't remember if it is a viscous tranny like the old 996 turbo, if it is , then the power will go 100% to the rear wheels on a straight line wich will explain this result.

The 996 has an antique automatic gearbox which costs arround 4 seconds from 0-200 km/h. A handshiftet version would clearly win against a 5 years younger 335. And not to forget: the 996 has 4-Wheeldrive!!! So the "lower-end" Porsches aren't slow at all....

A tiptronic 996 is just as fast as a manual 996.

Go drive both transmissions on a 996 before posting stupid comments...

For persons who can't shift the tiptronic will be even faster. Probably this is the reason why you overestimate the potential of the outdated tiptronic of the 996 model. Go ask the owner of M5Board. He will verify my "stupid" comment.

The tiptronic tranny on the 996 doesn't make the car 'very slow', it merely adds milliseconds onto acceleration times. Stating that the Tip makes the car 'very slow' is what I was referring to when I said you'd made a stupid comment, because, you said it yourself, the tip is faster for a fair few drivers.

Dude, this is boring. Just face it: The tiptronic of the 996 makes the porsche 4 seconds slower compared to the excellent manual gearbox from 0-200km/h (what is on your roads like 0-125 mp/h). If you would be aware of the technical conditions of this generation of tiptronic (only 5 gears, + 115 pounds, poor response...) you wouldn't even think about merely miliseconds. But I've never said that the 996 tiptronic is a slow car anyhow! Just that the manual is quite faster
