  • Single player games are like reading a book. It's a solitary experience which can later be shared with others who've also experienced it. It's social after the fact.

MMOs are like bowling in the way described. I honestly can't think of a better analogy. Ninja'd by Tycho D:

  • It really comes down to how good of a story the single player game has. If its an epic story line, its totally worth it, if the story sucks, I'd rather be playing with other people.

  • I actually disagree with this, I have gotten to where I get more enjoyment out of single player games BECAUSE I don't have to rely on other people for my enjoyment of the game.

  • Never quite thought about it this way.... All of my friends who made fun of me for playing WoW spends about the same amount of time I spend on WoW watching absolute shit like Jersey Shore.

  • *sigh*

their is a difference between RPG's and MMORPG's

mmo= shitty story (most of the time) chance of good combat and multiplayer

RPG=most of the time good story and combat, acttual dialouge

comparing an mmo to a rpg is like comparing being part of a firing squad and being a sniper in the militery

sure they have simularitys...but they are still not the same

(sorry for the spelling and grammer errors...)

  • @glassjawboxer So what you're saying is,

You have nothing better to do with your life than post hate comments? If you don't like them, why are you listening to their podcasts?

  • OMG this waz recorded on my 14th birthday

  • I don't play WoW because I don't think of it as a game. It's more like a drug - a very popular one, that is. To many this means less time spent on more important things. Sure, video games in general can be, what some consider to be, "a waste of time" but WoW hits the extreme level of that. I don't care if the stereotypic asian WoW gamer commits suicide, but the time this game consumes from people is way too much, if you ask me.

  • @BrUSomania

Although the game is ridiculously deep, the game itself is to blame entirely. Players who are incapable of playing in moderation are prone to addiction..

All things should be used in moderation.

  • @Sykmos The problem is that most games have an ending, WoW doesn't (I know that it is an MMORPG) but most other games are fun for 1hour a day and then you move to something else.

  • A very interesting take on it, and it reminds me of my reasoning in returning to the game.

It occurs to me that for most players, WoW is intensely competitive, and they are prone to rage if things do not go their way. Following this reasoning they are wasting their time by playing, as it has gone beyond the social/leisure archetype you describe.

  • Tycho is a motherfucking wordsmith.

  • WoW FOREVER... or until 2012

  • I get a similar feeling from playing D&D. Not only does it contain the group/social experience, but your character's decisions, actions, and life actually matter.

I got to a point where I felt my time spent in WoW was a waste- fight hordes of monsters to level and get better gear to fight hordes of monsters...(repeat). In the end, what is the point? What memories do I have to take with me? How I got end-game gear? How I kicked ass on a tough raid?

  • does any one know if you can download trophies for oblivion?

  • The Spore Cult is one of my favorite episodes of the Podcast. I like it when they talk about the tall hats in Lost Odyssey.

  • He's right about the bowling alley - also its only 15 bucks a month! :D

  • Wow(bad pun, I know)! These guys described exactly how I feel now that I'm thinking about starting to play WoW again.
