I once visited the house in the summer of 1980. It had the same windows but there was also a fake window in between the two windows (I know they were fake as the chimney runs behind it). why did they change the windows!!!!! thats so annoying! :@ the original windows were sooo beautiful and yet slightly creepy with the way they sort of reminded me of eyes :S so what if people want to look at the house! it has a very tragic and interesting history which is exactly why they should have kept the house the same! so the history could be remembered in honour and memory of the defeo family, may they rest in peace.

I wonder when or why the swimming pool was removed??. That took alot of value away from the home.I seen the house up close in 1990 while on vacation. It seems the people in the area are very moody. Like this guy said, the homes history is set in stone as there will always be onlookers.6 people were killed in the home plus a previous owner along time ago died in the home.Very creepy.

I once visited the house in the summer of 1980. It had the same windows but there was also a fake window in between the two windows (I know they were fake as the chimney runs behind it). I was expecting a creepy fealing but felt plesant! It was bright and cheery. A car pulled up and the kids in the car asked (sarcasticly) Did you see any ghosts? lol

Somebody should buy the house and charge admission for a tour. They would make a lot of money! I understand the frustration of the neighbors but if they can only understand that they have a celebrity house in their community. Maybe the town can buy the house and make money. But I guess this is a rich town and they don't need to make from this house. They just want to be left alone! Too bad!

I heard that place is for sale now, I think about 1.7 million. If I had the money, I would buy it and open a haunted attraction for the Halloween season. I would make so much money, I could live off the profits for the rest of the year!

@INJUNJANE that would be a wonderful investment. you would have to lure in 300,000 people at 5 bucks a pop to make your money back. that's 821 people a day for a year straight to recapture your investment. cut that in half if you charged 10 bucks. either way your idea make not sense and there is no possible way you would get more than 10-20 people a week coming through.

Im not 100% sure though.

I have been to the house a couple times and even drank with all the locals at the bar a couple blocks away on Merrick Ave. The locals are absolutely awesome. As long as one does not go there acting like a complete douche than there shouldnt be a problem,
