  • does it matter what type of wood or does it have to be that specific kind?

  • @desertsurvivalist what were you using for the the cords and the string? I think I probably live by you because everything looked very familar, so I could probably find the string.

  • That is really neat and informative. Thank you for taking the time to make and edit the video. Have a great life.

  • dude i lived in az for 13 years until i moved up to iowa... i like these vids alot man make more :)

  • Was i trippin or was he changing colors?

  • What did you make all of that chord, and the bow string out of?

  • whats the draw waight on this bow?

  • why so many sticks??

  • @H3ath3r4596 More draw weight and the bow is stronger.

  • You can save cord if you lash it with round lashings. Also, the joint will be stronger. That's a really good looking bow though.

  • This is so cool! but what im worried about is how much cordage is getting wasted right now

  • @XxServalcat24xX Thanks but you dont have to use that much.

  • I've made a few if these from dried bamboo and electrical tape. Its not hard to make something pulling 50#. Your handle looked a little bulky there, I make mine a little more manageable through the handle. Of course, that means I get flex through the handle too, where as yours would be rigid.

  • i live in the sierra navada foothills what wood should i use

  • what kind of material did you use for the bow string and the wrappings for the bow

i want to try and make a bow just like that one and see if i can do it :D

  • @italianstali01 paracord

  • hey man can you do something? I actually tried to make a liquid bandage from moss. I read it in an old book. I cleaned it and crushed it into a paste but i had no wounds. could you try this out

  • @dogbone222 cut yourself a lil and test it out :)

  • @supergeorgian1 is that a proven method of testing? oh and i made an actual recipe.

    1.80% flour- 1 Cup flour

    2.10% Salt- 3 tsp salt

3.10% Baking soda- 3 tsp BS

-optional add 1 tsp of lemon juice before applying the dry mix.

I looked most of this stuff up and its pretty sound from my stand point. If ever something happens this might stop the bleeding. Just add gauze to big wounds after

  • could this bow be made with 4 or 5 sticks?

  • I made one of these while I was hiking in southern az. Pretty neat bow. Surprised all my friends and the willow makes decent arrows

  • Nice job man..:)

  • This is SO cool, especially since willow is quite common.

  • Very interesting way of making a survival bow! Thanks.

  • thanks a lot.

I live in Saudi Arbia we hae no trees in the eastren province unless you live in a big house with a huge yard. I'll be going to the wood place and make a video about my 4 bow making attembt

  • one question!!! what kind of bow string do you use??? or is it just a regular piece of string..thx

  • @tojsiab100 nilon.

  • Ahhh the bundle bow! A classic that I MUST try to make very soon! Me and my friend want to go "frogging" this spring and I heard the bundlebow would be perfect to use, make an arrow with 3 prongs on the tip and you are goot for frogging!, you can tie a string to the nock of the arrow to bring the frog in to you also!

    Nice video!

  • the bow looks so epic :P

  • hmmm....... what could I use if I live in minnesota (which I do)?

  • @tzawesome River Cane - ones with the Cat Tails. Let them dry out first for a few months. Could use duct tape to lash them together vs 1/4" diamater para cord. Duct tape is lighter too. So it reduces the bows weight making it shoot faster. Could also use Bamboo 1/2" diameter.

  • Awesome stuff....more, more, more please!

  • nice job!!

  • how drie can the branches be or do they have to be green

  • COOOOL!!!

  • it is actually named bundeldbow

  • Good video --thanks much!

  • gr8 vid

  • at first i thought you were a tool. but then When it was all put together i put my foot in my mouth. Looks like you made a great bow. Cheers!

  • i like the video but i dont live around a swamp so i cant get willow wat else could i use

also wat type of string did u use

  • i loved it i think it was the best one i have seen cause u showed step by step on wut to do thanks know im goint to go make one and i killed an 8 point buck with my compound bow im 08

  • I too was a fan of a throwing stick, until my last camping trip. Out on the creek fish were everywhere, but would not bite. Made a quick bow and in about 35 minutes had two fish. I learned once again the old adage"right tool for the right job". Thanks for the video

  • i wanna make a bow but im still lukin 4 da rite tree lol =P

  • What kind of material was used for the string??? Great video, btw.

  • That's really cool I'm gonna try to make my own tommorrow

  • isnt that also called a reed bow?

  • Nice bow John. The leaf fletchings idea was a first for me, cool. It would be nice to see someone do one of these with natural cordage but I'm sure most of us understand how it could be done without 550 cord. Nice job!

  • keep the good work up john!

  • question what about florida o.o?what wood would i use?

  • @crazykiddk You can use any sapling or branch from a tree. You can also use river cane.

  • what if you dont have any cordedge what else could you use. ps:great vid

  • @randomevidmaker33 I have used natural cord or even willow bark to lash it together. Works pretty well but as it dries you will need to re tighten the lashings. No biggie considering how long it takes to carve a bow stave.

  • @desertsurvivalist or you could use shoe lace,i always carrie a rawhide square in my survival pack wich can be made into a very strong bowstring

  • Enjoyed this vid John. I know how much time and work a vid like this takes. Great job.

Also, this is the first time I saw a really good demonstration of how to make this bow. 5/5

  • this is so awesome :D

  • wicked video! that's about the best bushbow i've seen thrown together.

shoots great. should've mentioned finding natural cordage.

  • is there any other ways to make the back of the arrows. like very easly

  • Nice, thanks for sharing!

  • I like it I will try to make one here in the AK bush were willow is abundent.

  • that bow sucks balls

  • nah

  • just go buy a bow, its better

  • can you tell me what rope do you use to tie that please

  • @TheTMNT1993 its 550 paracord

  • @mountainman1224 cus it would b weak as hell,DUHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does the willow bend by it self, or do you have to find some that is already bent?

  • i made one it works really good

  • what is he using to tie everything up?

  • damn i wish I can make it now hahaha

  • good video!!

  • that was cool. what draw weight is that?

  • Tom Brown is the man, Ive had one of his books since I was like ten. The most important item in any situation is knowledge.

  • vvould that vvork for killing your motherinlavv?

  • lol

  • great instructions!

It was much more powerful than I first thought

    very useful

  • I would more likely use a throwing stick in a survival situation so I could free up all that cord and because I'm not a very good shot.

That being said this is still an awesome bow.

  • I hear you there! A throwing stick does save some time. Thanks for watching.

  • Get what your saying beekoboyy , but if you make one and practice you 'd be good for a rabbit or two I should imagine.

  • Yeah I live in the city so I will have to wait till I go to my friends before I can try it out.

  • i live in illinois what kinda of tree or plant grows here that i can use?

  • Just about any sapling.

  • lmao this guy is changing colors at 0:32 XD

  • I put one of those effects from windows movie maker in there lol. I use Sony Vegas software now I like it a lot better. Thanks for watching.

  • great video keep up the good work, yf dan

  • this i think is a really good bow.

  • how much does string cost and how long does it last the bow

  • You can use any string you choose. I still have one of my bows. So far it has lasted over a year.

  • if it breaks when ur shooting will it hurt badly and what type of wood do u use and how do u prepare it

  • 550 cord works awesome and the inner cord can be twisted into a thicker cord for the bow string. If I was using natural cord I would use yucca cord to bind the bow and willow bark cord or agave cord for the bow string.

  • ok but dont the wood break when it drys out

  • Eventually it does. You can in fact use any some what strait saplings as long as they are at least 1/4 inch thick and just bundle it together. As the wood dries at some point or another it will break. You should be out of the woods by then. If not it is very easy to make another with out expending too many calories.

  • will plant fibers work for a 60lb bow,i was told it will work..also why are amazon tribes bows so huge 7 feet long,,they must be powerful to shoot 5 foot long arrows.

  • I've always hear that the type of ow you made was called a bundle bow. It really is a great tool for small game since they generally have a 40# draw. I also live in AZ and have succesfully hunted rabbits with this type of bow while practicing my wilderness self reliance skills. I would love to get togethor with you and swap aome knowledge and possibly go in the desert and try some stuff out!! Great vid!!

  • Fantastic video! i really liked the Natural Cordage too. ive been practicing Cordage here in my office with shreds of Tissue paper - LOL, it works though! (for practice).

I'd love to build a fully natural bow. I shoot traditional recurve for a hobby, making a bow out of something natural (while not nearly as good as a professionally made bow) would be something i'd love to hang on the wall =D

  • could that kill a rabbit or a deer

  • He has a video about how to make cord from plants.

  • Thanks, I will check that out. :)

  • What did you use for the bow string? Para cord for all other spots, but the bow string? Cool video learned something Thanks.

  • I used poly cord for the string...same stuff they use to sew boots together.I am hoping to do more on this video soon I just haven't had the time.

  • this is really cool and would definitely help keep me alive if i was stranded or lost somewhere but can you post a video of you making one using less string or something found in the wilderness to use instead of the string?

  • Sure I can....I will do that as soon as I get time. Doing a video on the quick bow using all natural material will take some time to do. Even with less cord that is still a lot of fiber to prepare. But good idea thanks.

  • greaT info thanks for posting

  • by the way wat type of string did you use

  • I used wax coated poly cord I guess it is called.....it is the same string used to sew boots. You can use any strong cord.... My favorite is artificial sinew. I hope to get more vids up on this subject.

  • You can also use braided inner twine from parachute cord, or dental floss among others.

  • dude i was making a bow and when i finished i kinda axedently got stapped by an arrow

  • Anybody know how to make a good nock on the wood arrow?

  • Best way that I ever found was to heat a piece of metal and Burn it in... Then its less likely to splinter.

  • cool next time in stranded in the desert with a kilometer string ill try it

  • impressive... i thought the bow wouldnt go that fast but it REALLY suprised me. Very nice vid

  • Wow!!! Thank god you have 200m of para cord to make that puppy.

The speed (cast) of that arrow leaving the bow on the test shot was awfully slow... definitely not a killing bow & I doubt blunts could stun a bird.

So, one could try using dried (not green) willow shoots, should be a lot springier.

  • functional beats pretty...good job nice vid

para cord is awesome. id hate to have to make my cordage,, by the time i made it id sure be hungry

  • if you were that hungry you would make everything faster lol

  • Nice job! I saw a simpler one with 3 saplings work real well. Yours is real nice!!

  • if you cut small grooves for the rope, then it wont slide

  • it looks asome

  • if you all knew anything about bows, this is the SAME principle that solid bows (composite) use.

  • yea it waz ba

  • we going to need that after the passing of planet nubiru

  • yea

  • Do you think i can get a squirel with that type of arrow?

  • you can get a squirrel with any kind of bow. it just depends on the distance. with this bow i think you can kill a squirrel at about 30 yards if you have the accuracy.

  • Do you think i can get a squirel with that type of arrow?

  • nice i will try to make one just like you

  • yea

  • i killed a deer with that bushbow that u made

  • Oh man! Are you serious?

  • Did you drop the bow on it from a tree?

  • lmao

  • are you for real?

  • Class A video got yourself a new subscriber! ;)

  • do you have to have seep willow or can you use substitute tree?

    i live in oklahoma.

  • very nice

  • one thing im confused about is the use of cord..:S where the hell are you going to find cord in the wild or anything strong enough to replace cord? If there wasnt any stringy moss around to use for cord how would you make a bow? its impossible but this is better and faster than the other ways iv seen so well done! :)

  • The catail, yucca, agave, willow bark and others, nettles, and several other plants can be used to make cord. You don't have to use that much cord.

  • cut up a shirt

  • how much cord did that take u

  • they would work better if u had longer arrows

  • nice bow

  • good tut. well done and thank you.

  • thank you very much i will do that i appreicate ur help

  • i live in newfoundland what kind of trees should i use to make a bow?

  • Masterchrisf I would suggest hickory or ash, I live in New England So our the climates are fairly similarly. If you want to start from scratch it might take up to 2 year for it to completely season.(I have some starves that are 3 years old) If looking for something now check you local lumber yard or sawmill. Also check out some good books form your library and read up on it if your really interested in making one.

  • nice vid and a great bow ill have to make one of those myself.

  • nice video you know what your doin, i just dont like it wen people are like "best bow ever" and it shoots five feet...... i wish they would just be like "my first bow" or "training bow" i dont care if its bad just dont lie to all the youtubers you know what i mean?

  • awesome video man looks like a more practical bow to make in a survival situation, thanks for taking the time to make this vid!

  • great vid man but i cant make one like that cos im austrailia

  • how long was the chord that you made the handle whipping with?

  • It was around twenty feet. It really doesn't have to be that long.

  • very educational, thank you for making the video and taking the time to do it right.

    NIA

  • thats a badass bow

  • That bow was really good looking and quite good too... Really nice vid...

  • sweet vid

  • Arnold Swarchenegger in Predator made a bow just like that, except he shot grenades with it :D

  • it took awhile to make that. what if you don't have anything to tie it with. will barks work

  • Absolutely, any kind of natural cordage will work well.

  • that was kool.

  • nice bow!!!

  • how many pound pull do u think that is?

  • nice video man 5 star

    but one question

when i make my bow some reason my bow string gets lose after about 10 shots

    how can i fix that?

  • Well one of three things is happening. your tie wraps are coming loose, or the string is stretching or slipping. This bow does require more maintenance than a regular bow. I can normally get about 12 to 15 shots before I have to cinch everything up. You can try putting more of a curve in the bow then tie the string. That will add more tension. I am soon to put out another video going further in depth of this bow. Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the vid.

  • thxs you

ill looking forward to see the video

  • That was cool!

  • wht did u use for the arrow????

  • I used an old target arrow that I had found on a trail. It was missing the knock so I made one for it. The fletchings were also missing.

  • thats not survival thought

  • I used it for the demonstration. Arrows are another video. lol. Sometimes you can find arrows that hunters have lost. I actually have 4 that I have found. As soon as I get some time I will go deeper in depth on survival archery. This was just a quick vid I threw together.

  • hey will i be able to just use willow instead of seep willow

  • how long does it take till it breaks on average? how many uses?

  • You can get countless uses till it dries out and becomes brittle. Usually a few weeks to a few months depending. I still have the one I made for this video but I don't use it daily. Last time I did it started to crack.... time to make a new one lol.

  • Is quick bow as strong as long bow?

How many lbs draw (roughly) compare to real bow?

Can I kill a deer with this or can I protect myself from bears? Or is it good only for rabbit and small animals?

    Thanks.

  • It is best for small game to allow you to eat while a stronger bow is being made. It has a 25 to 30 lbs draw wt. since a survival situation is usually short term and temporary this bow works beautifully for that.

  • i made a bow out of a willow sapling it has a 30-35lb draw wait and made the cord out of day lilly leaves i soked them in water for 2;ours then braded them together and then connected them to my bow staff it took 1 hour worktime to make my bow, bowstring and 6 arrows over all wait time 3 hours because i also fired the tips of my arrows so that the tips would penatrate farther i wish i counld make a video about it but i have no camara but if u want to try it and video it thatsok with me thanks.

  • did you ever find the arrow?

  • lol! No I never did.

  • have yo ever shot something with this bow plez reply

  • I have gotten a few birds with it. I haven't had much of a chance to get anything else. I will keep you posted.

  • lol...about my last comment, i was half asleep and was'nt paying attention, what i ment was "would i have to make it out of one thick piece...lol

  • yo...is it possible to make a bow like that out of bamboo, or would i have to make a video...do you think you could make a video on how to make a BAMBOO bow...tyvm...w/b plz
