@desertsurvivalist what were you using for the the cords and the string? I think I probably live by you because everything looked very familar, so I could probably find the string.
I've made a few if these from dried bamboo and electrical tape. Its not hard to make something pulling 50#. Your handle looked a little bulky there, I make mine a little more manageable through the handle. Of course, that means I get flex through the handle too, where as yours would be rigid.
hey man can you do something? I actually tried to make a liquid bandage from moss. I read it in an old book. I cleaned it and crushed it into a paste but i had no wounds. could you try this out
@supergeorgian1 is that a proven method of testing? oh and i made an actual recipe.
1.80% flour- 1 Cup flour
2.10% Salt- 3 tsp salt
3.10% Baking soda- 3 tsp BS
-optional add 1 tsp of lemon juice before applying the dry mix.
I looked most of this stuff up and its pretty sound from my stand point. If ever something happens this might stop the bleeding. Just add gauze to big wounds after
I live in Saudi Arbia we hae no trees in the eastren province unless you live in a big house with a huge yard. I'll be going to the wood place and make a video about my 4 bow making attembt
Ahhh the bundle bow! A classic that I MUST try to make very soon! Me and my friend want to go "frogging" this spring and I heard the bundlebow would be perfect to use, make an arrow with 3 prongs on the tip and you are goot for frogging!, you can tie a string to the nock of the arrow to bring the frog in to you also!
@tzawesome River Cane - ones with the Cat Tails. Let them dry out first for a few months. Could use duct tape to lash them together vs 1/4" diamater para cord. Duct tape is lighter too. So it reduces the bows weight making it shoot faster. Could also use Bamboo 1/2" diameter.
i loved it i think it was the best one i have seen cause u showed step by step on wut to do thanks know im goint to go make one and i killed an 8 point buck with my compound bow im 08
I too was a fan of a throwing stick, until my last camping trip. Out on the creek fish were everywhere, but would not bite. Made a quick bow and in about 35 minutes had two fish. I learned once again the old adage"right tool for the right job". Thanks for the video
Nice bow John. The leaf fletchings idea was a first for me, cool. It would be nice to see someone do one of these with natural cordage but I'm sure most of us understand how it could be done without 550 cord. Nice job!
@randomevidmaker33 I have used natural cord or even willow bark to lash it together. Works pretty well but as it dries you will need to re tighten the lashings. No biggie considering how long it takes to carve a bow stave.
550 cord works awesome and the inner cord can be twisted into a thicker cord for the bow string. If I was using natural cord I would use yucca cord to bind the bow and willow bark cord or agave cord for the bow string.
Eventually it does. You can in fact use any some what strait saplings as long as they are at least 1/4 inch thick and just bundle it together. As the wood dries at some point or another it will break. You should be out of the woods by then. If not it is very easy to make another with out expending too many calories.
will plant fibers work for a 60lb bow,i was told it will work..also why are amazon tribes bows so huge 7 feet long,,they must be powerful to shoot 5 foot long arrows.
I've always hear that the type of ow you made was called a bundle bow. It really is a great tool for small game since they generally have a 40# draw. I also live in AZ and have succesfully hunted rabbits with this type of bow while practicing my wilderness self reliance skills. I would love to get togethor with you and swap aome knowledge and possibly go in the desert and try some stuff out!! Great vid!!
Fantastic video! i really liked the Natural Cordage too. ive been practicing Cordage here in my office with shreds of Tissue paper - LOL, it works though! (for practice).
I'd love to build a fully natural bow. I shoot traditional recurve for a hobby, making a bow out of something natural (while not nearly as good as a professionally made bow) would be something i'd love to hang on the wall =D
this is really cool and would definitely help keep me alive if i was stranded or lost somewhere but can you post a video of you making one using less string or something found in the wilderness to use instead of the string?
Sure I can....I will do that as soon as I get time. Doing a video on the quick bow using all natural material will take some time to do. Even with less cord that is still a lot of fiber to prepare. But good idea thanks.
I used wax coated poly cord I guess it is called.....it is the same string used to sew boots. You can use any strong cord.... My favorite is artificial sinew. I hope to get more vids up on this subject.
you can get a squirrel with any kind of bow. it just depends on the distance. with this bow i think you can kill a squirrel at about 30 yards if you have the accuracy.
one thing im confused about is the use of cord..:S where the hell are you going to find cord in the wild or anything strong enough to replace cord? If there wasnt any stringy moss around to use for cord how would you make a bow? its impossible but this is better and faster than the other ways iv seen so well done! :)
Masterchrisf I would suggest hickory or ash, I live in New England So our the climates are fairly similarly. Well one of three things is happening. your tie wraps are coming loose, or the string is stretching or slipping. This bow does require more maintenance than a regular bow. You can get countless uses till it dries out and becomes brittle. Usually a few weeks to a few months depending. I still have the one I made for this video but I don't use it daily. Last time I did it started to crack.... time to make a new one lol.
It is best for small game to allow you to eat while a stronger bow is being made. It has a 25 to 30 lbs draw wt. since a survival situation is usually short term and temporary this bow works beautifully for that.
i made a bow out of a willow sapling it has a 30-35lb draw wait and made the cord out of day lilly leaves i soked them in water for 2;ours then braded them together and then connected them to my bow staff it took 1 hour worktime to make my bow, bowstring and 6 arrows over all wait time 3 hours because i also fired the tips of my arrows so that the tips would penatrate farther i wish i counld make a video about it but i have no camara but if u want to try it and video it thatsok with me thanks.
yo...is it possible to make a bow like that out of bamboo, or would i have to make a video...do you think you could make a video on how to make a BAMBOO bow...tyvm...w/b plz
does it matter what type of wood or does it have to be that specific kind?

You can use any string you choose. I still have one of my bows. So far it has lasted over a year.
desertsurvivalist 2 years ago
if it breaks when ur shooting will it hurt badly and what type of wood do u use and how do u prepare it
Dumby571 2 years ago
550 cord works awesome and the inner cord can be twisted into a thicker cord for the bow string. If I was using natural cord I would use yucca cord to bind the bow and willow bark cord or agave cord for the bow string.
desertsurvivalist 2 years ago
ok but dont the wood break when it drys out
Dumby571 2 years ago
Eventually it does. You can in fact use any some what strait saplings as long as they are at least 1/4 inch thick and just bundle it together. As the wood dries at some point or another it will break. You should be out of the woods by then. If not it is very easy to make another with out expending too many calories.

You can get countless uses till it dries out and becomes brittle. Usually a few weeks to a few months depending. I still have the one I made for this video but I don't use it daily. Last time I did it started to crack.... time to make a new one lol.

Is quick bow as strong as long bow?
How many lbs draw (roughly) compare to real bow?
Can I kill a deer with this or can I protect myself from bears? Or is it good only for rabbit and small animals?
Thanks.

It is best for small game to allow you to eat while a stronger bow is being made. It has a 25 to 30 lbs draw wt. since a survival situation is usually short term and temporary this bow works beautifully for that.
