Thanks for posting this single. Like a lot of English kids in the 1970's and 1980's I was familiar with the Specials SKA interpretations - we only got to know about the roots of this music by listening to John Peel and Annie Nightingale on radio.
Brilliant tune... Hate to see people slag off the Specials version... without their input.. tunes like this would be lost to millions... They never pretended or past off their covers as there own.. they just played the music they love and added to it.. both versions stand the test of time..
@mrska1 Absolutely right, and that's one of the beautiful things about ska. The music itself is completely timeless and tunes like this are frequently revived by other bands. When that happens, people want to hear the original. That can only be a good thing.
DONT READ THIS BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY WORKS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. OMG whata wonderful tune and the dancing is just how I remember it around the London area 1964/65 . Yep they was good times and the music was and still is THRILLING>
Garth Dennis who formed Black Uhuru and founding member of Wailing Souls, sister Joan Dennis is Joey. Who is the composer and singer of this song with her partner Andy. Joey is also the sister in law of the great Joe Higgs, who was Bob Marley's musical mentor....
More (mostly ska) tracks from Reuben 'Andy' Anderson & Joanne 'Joey' Dennis by the same producer Coxsone Dodd: - I Want To Know - My Love Has Gone - My Love - You'll Never Know - I Know - Love Is Stronger - Love Your Company - Party Time - The Say - Wonder No More. Für den Produzenten Leslie Kong: - Cross My Heart - Have You Ever. Für Vincent Chin: - My Love und für Arthur Reid: - I Miss Your Love Hope, this helps!

"You're Wondering Now" by Reuben 'Andy' Anderson & Joanne 'Joey' Dennis, produced in the last days of 1963 and firstly pressed on C&N records in 1964.
Classic. Something about it makes you reflect. It's truly sincere, the words and the melody are straight from the heart. I love both The Specials and Amy Winehouse's renditions of it. I'm glad that the passage of time has seen this gem of a song has received the kudos it deserves.
I am a white Scottich lad who got into got into Ska through listening to The Specials and now im delving deeper and deeper into it's roots im falling deeper and deeper into love with this wonderful genre of music...it's music that uplifts the soul and can put a smile on your face no matter how troubled your life me be.Wonderful stuff.
@gordonw01 It can uplift your soul, And also make you feel happy, sad or mellow,I love to put Pat Kelly, If it don,t work out, on and dance with my wife It seems to magnify the emotions almost overwhelming. Still go to the occasional do, Hope to go to the Barcelona weekender in May.
@gordonw01 well that is its purpose, as it was the music of the ghettos of Jamaica, where the people were oppressed, and needed upliftment, most Jamaican music is of a carthartic expressive nature and was made for the upliftment of the people, and discussion of the times
@gordonw01 I completely agree with you! I'm from Mexico and The Clash and The Specials introduced me to this style of music and the more I listen to it and explore its Jamaican roots the more I like it! Like you said it's music that no matter who you are or where you come from anybody can relate to and it can put a smile on your face even on those gloomy days
I agree with you there mate. Got into Ska as a young skinhead listening to all the 2TONE stuff, and from there, discovered all the wonderful Jamaican Ska....When i was 11, my older brother gave me a Trojan records box set called The Trojan Story....Been in love with this music ever since.....I'm nearly 40 now...and my love for this music grows each day, and each day i discover old rarities.....fucking love it.
The specials were a silly version. This is the original version way back in 1963, not 1966 as mentioned above. In 1966 the Jamaican Ska was already slowing down into a slower beat called Rocksteady.
remember when music was FUN..! this is superb..where did you find this gem? i love the Specials version..but this is sheer magic..now i know why they were inspired to do their own cover version..cheers pinky..from the white man NOT in hammersmith palais..
I did not find this gem,it is made up from the vinyl record,I have it on a Jamaican coxone 45,bought in 1983.the video footage is taken from the island film called ska,the dancers are dancing to ska,but not andy and joey. The single was originaly issued in 1966
@pinky5446 Thanks pinky5446, this is real fun music, ahhh back in those days life was much simpler and music was much lighter and happier, just look at what we have today!!! Thanks again!!
yeah i know the specials version, there was a documentary on a few years ago & there was footage of The specials at a party dancing to the original. Been trying to find it ever since :)
as much as i love the specials and they are fucking brill this version of the song is much better than the specials i still jamiaca holds a special place in the hearts of the british
produced at the end of 1963!
