@noordwinter you are right, it is no good for carrying around , but it is for the house, many people use stuff past the expiry date, i always rotate so that never happens, i have a katadyn pocket filter for the water.
Milton fluid is better, cheaper and safer, 1 large bottle will last through any emergency.best to stock up on that, water purifying tabs contain iodine also you can use up the milton cleaning househld, no use when water putifying tabs go out of date
personally i not doing anything.............just comming round yours..........ha.....just trying to find where you live .....is that your accout on the reciept from tescos.
p.s porridge is the only food you need....its got most things good for your body.....you can live on it for a long time .......unlike rabbit which is like only 2 weeks.........pulses if you got the fuel..
and gaffer tape is a must.......not for eating mind.
keep candles in freezer in newspaper and they will last longer burning. newspaper keeps them colder in freezer when power is cut.
solar lights, camping hibanchi, water, canned meat, honey for sweeter, personal hygein. powdered milk or canned milk. spices and if you can have a garden start a garden and can all the vegetables you get from it. two frezzers stuff it full of food if you can afford it and we are still trying to get one a generator just in case you loose electrisity. warm blankets. We are still trying for this one too. a fireplace, solar oven heated by the sun. just get the stuff slowly. 72hour bag 4 emergency.
Spare can opener, for sure! Dry cereals the kids like (for treats, not day to day); oatmeal (versatile and nutritious), pack of Duct Tape, cooking oil, vinegar and sauces, boullion cubes, baking powder/soda, cheap powdered drink mix (to make purified water palatable), UNSCENTED bleach (to purify water), baby wipes (in lieu of shower), extra toiletries (shampoo, razors, etc) for trade and use, chicken/vegetable broth, high-protein bars (can be divided) or powder, hydrogen peroxide...
...Portable toilet and liners/trash bags (especially if there is no place to dig a pit), hand-cranked clothes washer (good for one outfit, not too expensive online) and detergent, gas masks (civil unrest brings CS), pure alcohol (for trade, fortifying drinks, and medicinal purposes), space blankets (super cheap, can be a lifesaver), crank lantern and radio, camping shower, Faraday flashlight (charge by shaking), bicycle and supplies, hunting slingshot and marbles/bearings. ='[.]'=
Great Video! I would add a water purifier Just in case fresh water becomes scarce. It is also easier to transport if you have to travel rather than transporting jugs of water. Thanks for posting the video. It gave me some good ideas.
I think you are thinking right. So many arn't even "thinking"!
My only 2 cents would be to find some plastic buckets and lids. I get my free from candy stores, they have millions of them from their syrups and sugars.
Salt and sugar especially will absorb humidity. Salt can lose it's saltyness after time. Mylar bags inside of the 5 gallon buckets are best, but that can be expensive. I have had alot of luck storing food for years in just a good sealed bucket. The bugs will find you.
It may seem eccentric but "the spice is right" and I admire them.I found in Afghanistan how monotonous low taste belly fill food day after day, dangerously numbs western appetite psychosomatically.Mears is right that taste suddenly becomes extremely important. I rate spices like (Whole) Cloves,Cardamom,Black Pepper,Fennel. (Ground) Cumin,Turmeric,Curry Powder,Oregano,Ginger,Chilli powder etc.All keep for years and many have medicinal uses.1 tsp of chilli powder into cheap beans, and I'm happy :D
rainstorm. gets lots of dried fruits, nuts and beef jerky!! i think you can make dried beef jerky yourself. not to hard. get a few pounds if you can. im not sure if you can, get smoked or dried fish..thats easily stored..maybe canned fish or something.
I just started storing food also. Buy whats on sale and what you eat first. Try building enough food for a month. Then keep buying extra food when you shop. Make sure you rotate your food to keep dates . Thanks for posting. Check out my food storage video sometime.
One of the things I stock up on is Rice Milk (Almond Milk too). The kind I buy is organic, cheap, & comes in 32/64 oz boxes, & doesn't need refrigeration while being stored in the cupboard. Expiration date is about one year after purchase date. Has 120 cals per serving (8oz) & comes in chocolate, vanilla, or plain. I think it tastes great by itself, but can be used in cereal, coffee/tea, pancake/waffle batter, blended w/ fruit for smoothies, mixed w/ protein powder to make shakes, baking, etc..
If you can afford one, a small, manual grinder for flour is useful. The time may come when the miller controls flour production, again. That's a thumb you don't want to be under, especially if it comes to you growing some of your own grain. ='[.]'=
I[ve been building up a store over the last three months, the great thing about it is, apart from peace of mind that you have a food supply in the event of a calamity, is that it saves tons of money. Becasue you are not buying for immediate need you just get trays of useful stuff when its on offer. I also build it with every trip to the shops because when I use something I always replace it with at least two. I'll never go back to not having a fully stiocked larder (well spare room actually)
I have stocked up on lots of different kinds of lentil and chickpeas in big sacks from the Asian supermarket and,, to go with it, plenty of tinned tomatoes. It is very economical to make heaps of dhal. Tasty and very nutritious. The dried lentils are also a super long storage item.
LOL. Given the choice, perhaps they would. Or maybe not. Dal Baht is often my main meal in Nepal. But admittedly quality varies from place to place and region to region. Sometimes the Dal can be dish water, and the rice cold. As is so often the case, the stuff made in people's homes and sometimes even in the Dhabas, puts the DB in 'supposedly' higher quality eateries to shame. Provincial variations of DBs tend to have a wide range of pickles and sabzi, and that certainly does give it a facelift.
Kidney beans in cans are full of protein. Sweencorn is water and usless. You'll need matches for the candles. I'd get a parafin lamp and a couple of gallons. Soup in packets is better value and fills you up. Sweets for treats, I have travel sweets. Lady products too, google mooncup. Maybe some disinfectant, I have lidls finest. Oh some seeds to plant. Dried yeast. Spam. Sardines are cheaper than tuna and just as good. If you get stuck remember emulsion paint is edible :-)
If it's stuff for long term storage, I tend to look for the highest calories for the lowest price.
It's all about calories. If you're going to eat as you go then you'd have to choose things you eat regularly. I have some stuff I can't stand but it's cheap and calorific (goulash, american hotdogs and so on( I normally wouldn't let a dog eat them, but if they were all you had, you'd be pleased and i'm not at all temted to tuck in :-)

Wheat has all of the nutrients we need to keep are body running. You would also need ways to purify water.

I bought supplies a few months ago. Boy did I feel like a clampet buying all those tinned potatoes, peas and tuna lol.

bread making flour is about 79p in tescos - get some sachets of yeast with it. Bread is such a must. Tinned soup to go with it.
Get seeds.
If you're not veggie, you'll need a lot more meat in tins.
A way to cook without gas or electric - a must.

Collect glass jars and bottles. They are good for storage and can be turned into weapons if needed. Collect seeds, for Tins will run out .
Buy an Air Rifle spring, not gas. steel wire for snares. get some netting for fish traps.

Brass wire for snares :-)
Agree on spring, and spares too.

I have a 10 gallon jerry can full of diesel stored in the garage just in case I need to have an emergency run to the hospital when fuel is scarce.
