  • Damn dude. very nice. :)

  • why does it matter if the bass has more string.

    \

  • haha its basically a 5 string bass with a 4 string guitar attacked to the bottom lol.

  • Was für eine gitarre-low mit so vielen saiten ? Warum gehst du nicht widmen sie sich, gitarre zu spielen ?

  • its not quite a bass and note quite a guitar...

  • @Shredderistic6 Sub Bass

  • Holy crap... I can only hope to be half as talented as him!

  • 12 people liked this video when there computer was upside down

  • ok...question...how much does it set you back if you wish to replace your whole string set??? and how do you go by doing that cuz just replacing a five string set can be pricey.

  • anon540's comment almost made me piss my pants!

  • were did u get that bass?!

  • @obssedwitmabass hes probably a luthier. a guy who makes stringed instruments

  • @NotRly1337

He gets his stuff from conklin.

  • @imarealgamer This one is a Conklin, yes. His favorite is made by Ken Lawrence. It's the 11 string one with the joist inlay. =)

  • WTF, man, 11 strings, 10 strings, 9 strings, 7 strings? At what point do you stop calling it a bass and just call it a guitar? If you need more than 5 strings either you're just showing off or you just don't have the talent and skill to play the bass.

  • @tarhen12 i think your retarded bro

  • @beargrillz124 1. This is an ironic comment coming from someone who doesn't know the proper use of the words "your" and "you're". Also, there should be a comma between retarded and bro.

    2. You're (see how that works?) a real brave, smart guy by calling someone retarded just because they have an opinion that may differ from yours.

    3. I hope some day you develop the conversational skills that allow you to disagree with someone without resorting to using childish slurs.

    4. Have a nice day, bro.

  • @tarhen12 And why having more strings makes it not a bass? It still has a bass scale (35"), bass pickups, bass string spacing, and BASS TONE. It's still a bass. People like Jean have this amount of string because it's their style. It's needed to express ourselves musically. Maybe you don't need more than 5 strings, but that's just you. If you think the role of bass player can't be other than a background low-tuned guitar, you're really close-minded. We're not showing off, we're playing.

  • @BassGrindcore

    nice :D:D

    hahaha

  • @BassGrindcore you destroyed him without swearing. impressive sir

  • @tarhen12

    wow!

  • @tarhen12

    May the trolls live on.

    \m/

  • @tarhen12 Its still a bass, its still has the bass notes, if a man plays a Trumpet register note on the Tuba does his Tuba become a Trumpet? No, it doesn't! This is an extended range bass not a guitar, what do you call a guitar with added low strings then? Why is that still a guitar?

  • @AttitudeCastle totaly agree

  • I'm lead guitarist, but I like the way you played it!!!!!

  • Why is the fret kinda bent in someway? Is it for intonation or something? Cool vid

  • @ilovemysr505 Its called a Fanned neck (pardon spelling) its to replicate the stings on a piano, if you lift the top off a grand piano you will see that the higher notes (higher pitched notes) have shorter strings while the bass notes have longer strings, it gives the instrument a much nicer and traditional sound vs the standard stringing most people are used to seeing/playing

  • @DinoAGrado Ahh! Thank you that was very helpful! :D

  • @DinoAGrado the string lengths aren't effected by the way the frets are positioned. The position of the bridge and tuners would be the only things that change the length of the string. The instrument has a regular head so the lowest and highest strings are effectively the same length. Ideally, yes, you would want your lowest note to have the longest possible distance from bridge to tuner; doesn't look like that is the case with this bass. Some fodera's have that option...

  • 9 string is interesting but imma stick with 5 string bass for now

  • i enjoy 4 string... everything i need is there. 24 frets is always a plus.

  • @ElCigaroCubano I like 6 strings, on lead, with 24 frets. Both my acoustic & electric only have 21 though :(

  • @MrNerd314159

it also depends on what you play. i play a lot of slap, so i like the space btwn the strings

  • definitely a Chapman Stick. Emmett Chapman also makes stick basses - check out his site

  • @keenids hahaha ooh man i cant describe the intense of your blindness and stupidity here :D also listen to it, take a look at the strings, take a look at the neck, take a look at the body, take a look at the frets, now please tell me, what the hell has this 9 string bass guitar in common with a chapman stick, except both instruments have strings?

  • I think this is great , i'm a bass player and would love to learn the tapping technique along with the double slap

  • looks like a stick guitar

  • It's not, the Chapman stick is much different.

  • no its not(apart that the bass int the viseo is doublecut

  • Yes, it is. A Chapman stick is really two non-concurrent sets of strings (usually like 7 and 6 strings of variable thickness), compared to the standard ERB you see here in this video, e.g. thick string on the low end gradually getting thinner to the top.

  • If you were glancing over the two in a dim lighted room, they would both look similar. Because of the quantity of strings, radius of the neck. The person seen here is tapping, a stick is almost exclusivly a tapping instrument

  • ... For the reason that I have met Jean at one of his small venues playing this bass (and if you did a little research around the internet or on his website) I know for certain this is an ERB not a Chapman stick. It doesn't matter the quantity of strings, radius of the neck or anything. This is an ERB, concurrent low strings up to the high strings (very unlike a chapman stick) The person seen here is tapping... yeah this is Jean Baudin that's what he does. Go visit his website, prove me wrong :)

  • It's pretty obvious it's an extended range bass not a chapman stick. Visit Conklin's (as this is a Conklin signature bass and they don't make chapman sticks) website and you will see that this is obviously a bass not a chapman stick, or his official myspace page or website.

  • @davethecandyman Not really. The basses strings widen asthey run to the bridge. The Stick strings don't widen or narrow. The bass uses Gotoh tuners. The Stick uses guitar type tuners. The bass is held at it's normal angle. The Stick is held almost verticaly. And Sticks don' have neck through body laminated wood construction.I could go on.

  • cool but 9 strings is just waaay too much

    lool

  • yea, you'd look ridiculous with that monstrosity.

  • thats cool!

  • Cliff Burton is very overrated! Here is the genius of bass guitar (as well as Geddy Lee or Billy Sheehan)!

  • Its not a bass. Its a Warr Guitar.

  • It's definitly no Warr Guitar, check out his myspace ;) "I had already been playing 9-strings before I heard of the Warr guitar. Tried a couple, not really my thing. "

  • This is actually Jean's Custom Conklin bass. You can see it on their website

  • The Smooshster is a fag!

  • you can't do this on guitar...strange instruments are amazing

  • I can.... but it sucks!!! LOL

  • 9 string base

  • Wow you are an indervitual who is safe behind his screen :P

All I Said Was This Is Overrated Just Like Slash

  • wowowowow!!!

    you rock !!

  • Ahhh coool =]

  • does he only tap?

  • Nah, tapping is his primary style but he incorporates pretty much every bass playing techique, slapping, popping, fingering and what ever other techniques that I can't think of right now.

Over all he's a pretty well accomplished and rounded bassist.

  • Fuckinh noobs but cool video

    Unnessisary Bass tho :P

  • How the fµ¢ do you can play this thing bro?O.o'

  • damn da neck on dat is huge

  • i kno how in the world can he play that thing?

  • idc what every1 else said, that was some awesome playing xP 5/5

  • ah, dude, that's gnarly.

  • Listen to his solo stuff and you'll understand why he uses 9, 10, and 11 strings.

  • Range???

    WTF!

THAT DOESN'T HELP I AM IN A BAND OF MY OWN!

I Play a 6 string thats the maximum!

9!!!! thats 3 strings that don't help your soloin'!

  • it could increase your range

  • Actually most people don't know this, but almost every production electric bass has 22+ frets. A lot of people would rather have a 22 string bass with 5 frets though.

Everyone knows the more strings you have the more skilled you are, and the bigger your penis is.

  • lol

  • yours must be pretty small then lol jp man hha

  • @anon540 dude it just makes the skill easier to convey

  • @bassman2020 and grows your dick

  • nossaaaaaaaaa que isso

  • @anon540 actually, it requires less movement to switch strings than frets, so false. and im a four stringer, and quite well endowed. both false.

  • @anon540 Everyone knows shit talking online makes your dick bigger.

  • @reavesinc agree :D

  • UUURRMMM........

Why the fuck would you need that many fuckin' strings!

    Jeez 6 is enough!!!

  • in this vid you can see for what he needs until 12 strings :D

  • Some people like having lots of range! Jeez...

  • Comment removed

  • lol i'd like to see you play it then.and he's using more then 4 strings. ;P

  • really I saw him use all of them across the video.. lol jealous xD

  • Didn't use the top string or the bottom!

  • he used all except the top. you're just jealous and no one really cares about you, unless you go do something impressive as this. + you just admitted you lied by saying he used 7 strings, when you said 4. goddamn do you have anything better to do than flame this guy?

  • YADDA YADDA Just shut up

at the end of the day your just wasting you life

    GOODBYE BORING ASSHOLE!

    lmao nerd ragee

  • boring?

    who watches this shit

who even cares if one guy can play it on an insane bass

when Most people like me can play it on a regular 4 string I'm not saying he's crap but he needs to change his style a bit less video game ost's and more metal!

  • hes done concerts and earned money from this ... lmao

  • SO FUCKIN' WHAT!

ahh listening to you rage makes me wake up happy in the morning rofl

and i see why your jealous

    your playing is shit ;)

    xDD

  • Noob. royall!!!

  • That was amazing!

  • is it just me, or does the neck look like it twists?

  • it has a twist, so he has a better range and actually you need it for the tone and the frets

  • wats the tuning on a 9 stringer?

  • Whatever you want it to be. There's probably not an accepted, standard tuning for 9-string due to the fact that not many people have one.

F#BEADGCFBb is apparently the "most common" according to wikipedia. -.-

  • i think the bass is bigger than you xD kidding...

  • yo mile, whattup? cool to see ya on here. loved your weezer 9 string video. funky. baudin rocks! baudin, make some more videos please! nice!

  • so cool. i'll upload some of my 9 string videos soon, too. killer work, jean!

  • watched ur video. u and baudin have very different styles, but both cool. good job. baudin, this is so sick. u rok man!!!

  • whats the difference between that bass and a chapman stick..?

  • what is the point of a nine string BASS!? what is the tuning?

  • Bet his strings are over $100

  • OVER 9000!!!

  • In what, Yen?

  • lol.

  • cuz classic guitar is gay :D

  • Wait..... are you emo and a slayer? or are you a slayer of emos?

and also so are basses with way to many fucking strings.

  • wow. your friends must be a bunch of fucking losers to let someone like you change who they are. im no emo, and really i dont understand it either, but people are who they are and if you actually feel the need to go around 'changing people for the better', maybe its you who needs to take a look in the mirror.

  • You're a loser because you have a lame ass poser name.

  • that's original...

  • must take forever to tune

  • Hey Dude...Where I buy this Bass?

  • I think it's a Jerzy Drozd custom bass. It's expensive as all hell, and a one of a kind. They'll make one for you if you want...

  • No, only a highly skilled musician would be able to pick up a 9 string and make it sound good.

  • hes getting really fat.....lol

  • AWESOME!

  • Sigmund Freud would love this...:0

  • AMAZING!!! i wish i had a bass like that too!

  • The hell with the bass...I want his TALENT!

  • F# B E A D G C F Bb

  • nice

  • dude the pickups on that bass r sweet lookin

  • awesome! O_O

  • Thats crazy!!. Is that a 9 string bass

  • That's his custom Pac-Man 9 string bass or the Pac-9. Very nice bass. I belive Conklin basses made it for him.

  • sweet !!

  • You would be correct on Conklin. They made his 11 string also. Amazing basses and all the more amazing when played by an an amazing bassist such as Jean Baudin.

  • DAMN!!!!!!THAT BAD ASS!!!!!!!

  • BADbASS!!! xD

    really awesome huh?

  • fucking awsome!!!

  • Fuck.......!!!

  • dude... another mario tune...

    I had to think: laaaaame!!!

but this version is fucking original! I mean: a 9string bass! that's rare!

    My respect goes 2 u!!

  • the 11 string bass is the best

  • wrong the 13 string super bass is the best, search it on youtube

  • 13 :|

    that's sick..

but damn! I wanna see that!!! :D:D

  • that same guy is now making a 14 string bass/baritone/guitar

  • thats gotta be a monster to restring

  • yeah but an 11 has to be way harder then a 9 but still i can barely string my bass :P

  • AN 11 STRING!!!, restringing it is a feat in itself. i could get on stage and restring one as a first act.

heres some advice take breaks and drink gatorade

  • I know of a guitar center that offers free stringing and tuning with any purchase

buy a pack of strings and leave

return in an hour to laugh at them
