It is because some keep voting against their self interests, the politicians think they can get away with anything if they just cater to the people on social issues.

The simple fact is politicians are reactive to what people want, if the majority were more well educated and vote on reason instead of emotions, the politicians will also get better since they want to win elections.

If soda was illegal and I was still drinking it, and Ron Paul was advocating to legalize it, would I support him JUST for that reason? Probably not. My point was, there are people out there who support Paul JUST because of legalization, even though his theories are not in those people's best interests.
